There are lots of stairs to climb but every step is worth the experience. Incredible sights at the Palace. The park is “the plumb” of the tour and offers flowing water, tunnels, towers and a “can’t miss” well. Sintra is gorgeous. The Guide was friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable - she was a fun person to spend the day with.

We had an absolutely wonderful tour to Sintra and couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Our tour guide Renata was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and informative, sharing fascinating history and local insights that made each stop even more special. She was also amazingly patient and kind with our three young kids, making sure they were included, comfortable, and happy throughout the day. The ease of the entire trip was something we truly appreciated — from smooth transportation to a well-paced itinerary, everything felt effortless and stress-free. We were able to fully enjoy the beauty of Sintra without worrying about logistics. This tour exceeded our expectations, and we would highly recommend it to families or anyone looking for an enjoyable, well-organized experience in Portugal.

Five-Star Sintra Adventure with Renata

Renata was an amazing host from start to finish. Booking the tour was as easy as 1-2-3. As soon as I confirmed, she sent us the links to purchase tickets for the two main attractions - Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira - so everything was perfectly organized. I did this about 1 month in advance of the tour date. Choosing this tour was absolutely the best decision; we breezed through all the lines without any hassle. We were a group of eight, and hiring Renata made for the perfect private day trip. We all rode comfortably in a luxurious Mercedes 4WD for the entire day, sitting a maximum of 8 passengers. Her knowledge of Sintra’s history, art, culture, and even the local flora and fauna made the experience truly enriching. She even shared fascinating insights about Lisbon right from the moment the tour began. An absolute joy from beginning to end!

This was an absolutely fantastic tour of Sintra. Cascais Tours has a real gem in Renata! One of the best tours and tour guides we have had in over 25 years of travel. Renata made sure to not only give us the history and information about all of the key places we visited but pointed out so many little details and facts that all the other tour guides pass by on. Renata brought Sintra to life with her deep knowledge of its history, legends, and secrets. She led us with passion and precision, never missing a beat, and somehow made the complex history feel like an epic tale unfolding just for us. But what really set her apart was how much she cared. She looked after the group like we were old friends, making sure everyone was comfortable, engaged, and, of course, well-fed. Her recommendation for a traditional Portuguese restaurant was spot-on — easily one of the best meals of our trip. We had a fantastic tour from start to finish, but Renata? She’s in a league of her own. If you're heading to Sintra, trust me — you want Renata leading the way.

A MUST SEE tour, but not good for those with mobility impairments. Renata was fabulous!

Once again we prove the value of a knowledgeable local guide! Renata (pronounce the R as an H) knows her stuff- and maintains a pleasant demeanor and nonstop commentary throughout a long day. Plus, she knows when and where to arrive to avoid crowds and delays. Thank God I didn’t have to drive on those narrow hilly windy streets! There is so much to see on this 2-palace tour, that a guide is a must when you have a limited time. And Pena Palace is a MUST SEE! I’ve wanted to visit ever since it came up as my Microsoft Windows background- and this palace does not disappoint!! You could spend DAYS here, but a guide helps you see and learn the most important parts during your limited time. Deep knowledge of Portuguese royalty and the buildings leads to a better experience- just ask her about the stained glass in the chapel! Regaleira was more interesting than I expected. I knew about the “well” - I thought of it as “the well of souls “ - but there is so much MORE. Again, Renata helped us get the most from the experience by suggesting and even staging and taking photos in the best spots both above and especially below ground. Plus her thorough knowledge of Dante’s Divine Comedy allows for a proper tie-in to Masonic ritual and purpose behind the construction of this unique wonder. While it was nice to finish with a visit to Cabo da Roca - the westernmost point in continental Europe- and return with a drive along the coast, it was difficult to stay alert and focused after such a long day climbing hills and stairs, but that’s just part of the itinerary, and not a reflection on the tour guide. Which brings me to a final point- this tour requires LOTS OF CLIMBING, and is not a good choice for those with mobility issues. Pena palace has a shuttle bus that can take guests up the hill, but that still leaves lots of stairs and hill climbing. And Regaleira is all about the 9 levels of Dante’s Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven- so LOTS of stairs, and there are no shuttles on the way to Heaven. So while I highly recommend this tour, it’s best suited to inquisitive minds who also count steps and floors climbed on their fitbits.

Pena Palace and Quinta da Regaleira are interesting sites. Prepare for alot of ups and downs, stairs, hills, uneven ground. It's a long day so some stamina is needed and not recommended for anyone with mobility issues. The shuttle at Pena Palace is highly recommended. These sites are also very popular and busy but your tickets get you through most queues quickly. Our guide was super engaging and informative. The town itself is very charming. You will have time for lunch or shopping but not both.

My mother has some mobility issues and Renata was great about making her feel comfortable and not rushed. It is a lot of walking with hills but she always gave us a heads up so we were prepared! Our family group of six had a wonderful tour with Renata. She was professional, knowledgeable, and made everyone -including two others who joined our group, welcomed and comfortable. Renata was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about our tour in Sintra. She also rerouted us around a serious accident to get us to Sintra palace on time for our tour. In addition she remained calm and positive while she completed our tour during the 10 hour power outage in Portugal. We were all very stressed about the situation. Going above and beyond she delivered us to our hotels without GPS or traffic lights. Renata should be nominated for tour guide of the year!
