I always take a cooking class when doing European travel as I want to take home the knowledge of the local cuisine. This class on traditional Portuguese cooking was exceptional! I even purchased a Cataplana, the traditional Portuguese pan used to steam seafood on a bed of vegetables you create. Our chef Sylvia was "over the top GREAT" in her instruction, knowledge and personality. Sylvia was very well organized in her planning as she instructed us through multiple dishes. This class is truly "hands on"- you're not watching, you're listening to instructions and doing. Highly recommended for not just the Foodie but for anyone as you will expand your knowledge and gain confidence in the kitchen.
We were lucky, in that we had a small group of four. Our instructor was absolutely the best! Eager to show us the local market, teach us about the culinary history of Lisbon and Portugal, and showed us how to prepare the best meal I’ve had while here. All this and the personal stories shared by all made this a most memorable part of our stay here I this beautiful city.
Wonderful experience! Very enjoyable experience . Food we prepared was delicious. A real hands on experience . Went to market first to get the food and while there had delicious bread , cheese and meats. Learned about the different breads. Instructor was delightful . Lot’s of wine!
Viator never disappoints! The kitchen was pristine and our chef, Sylvia, provided a wonderful experience which fit the description of our tour. Our group did all the cooking! So generous with the food and wine and a surprise starter spread before the cooking started! Always book with Viator; the guides are local and the best!
Renata was amazing! The walk to the market provided insights into the area. The market was an amazing way to buy all the ingredients that were going to be used. The cooking was fun, educational, and easy. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of cooking experience.
This market and cooking experience was phenomenal! Samara led our group in a preparing a delicious set of dishes and we learned new cooking techniques and an appreciation for Portuguese cuisine beyond salt cod.
Renatta was awesome! We had a great time at the market and learning about Portuguese cooking. The food was outstanding. Would do again if visiting Lisbon.
I had a great experience on this tour! Going to the local fish market and veggie stand was such an incredible experience, especially because I live in the Midwest of the United States, where it is difficult to find fresh fish. We made so many incredible dishes. The grilled sardines were my favorite. I took this tour on 7/7/26, and unfortunately I don’t remember the name of our chef. She was great though.
We had an amazing food tour experience in Lisbon with Pablo as our guide. He was friendly, helpful, informative, and incredibly personable from start to finish.
The tour included 6 different stops, each with fantastic food and drinks that gave us a great taste of the city. What really made the experience stand out was how Pablo went beyond just the food. He shared fascinating insights about Lisbon’s art, history, and architecture, which made exploring the city feel even more meaningful.
He was also full of great local tips and suggestions that helped us make the most of the rest of our trip. Highly recommend this tour (and especially Pablo) to anyone visiting Lisbon!

Our family had a wonderful time going to the market and enjoying the traditional Portuguese meal cooking class. We had two boys with us and they really enjoyed learning, cooking, and having the best authentic Portuguese meal that they made! This is a highly recommended activity if you are visiting as a family.

Highly recommend! This market tour and cooking class was my favorite experience in Lisbon. Our instructor Filipa was experienced, kind, patient, and knowledgeable. I learned so much about Portuguese culture from this class, and had a great time. Will cook these recipes at home. Delicious!
We thoroughly enjoyed our market/cooking class. Philipa was great, engaging and knowledgeable about Portuguese food! We did the class towards the end of our stay so my son had been enjoying fish all week and it was fun to see and learn more about what we had been eating. We got such great tips on handling/cooking fish and enjoyed the other recipes, too. (And the tasting options) I would highly recommend the class!
Renata was amazing! She had such a great vibe and made the whole class fun and informative. We were lucky enough to share the class with another couple that we really got along with. Instructions were easy to follow and we cooked and ate some great food. Highly recommend Renata!
Such a great experience and Philipa was a wonderful host and chef. We visited and shopped the Mercado 61 with her, purchased supplies for the day and cooked all together in the most wonderful kitchen. Great small group of 10. We were there for 6 hours and enjoyed every minute. Would certainly recommend and great value for the experience!
It was an amazing experience and was very worth wasting half a day not exploring Lisbon
We went to the market, did some tasting then went back to cook and learned new skills and had a delicious lunch.
Our instructor was a sweetheart and very genuine and made us try everything
Loved visiting the fish market to pick out what we were going to cook. Renata was a great leader, helping us cook a great lunch. Kitchen is a commercial kitchen, so they had everything (and then some) you would ever need when cooking. Loved the entire time we were there!!!
Absolutely amazing experience! The hosts/chefs are so sweet, knowledgeable and friendly! It felt like we got to do so much but never felt rushed. Nice walk to the market. Snacks throughout the entire experience. Hands-on, detailed cooking guidance. Wine, juice and water always available. Delicious, several course meal after all your hard work! So much fun!
This was an amazing experience. Chef Pidro was knowledgeable and attentive. The food we prepared was beyond delicious. This was an awesome experience!
The best market tour and cooking class we’ve ever had so far when we travel!! Very informative and great for those who want to advance their cooking and chopping skills. All delicious food and wine. We made everything from scratch!!
Lots and Lots of food, all great. Rodrigo was a great food and Portugal wine ambassador and kept us moving through the city. Our favorite was the Mozambique restaurant, picked up a bottle of the hot sauce......and got a quick introduction to Lisbon while we made our way through the city.
A tour of the market, samples and good food. It was relaxing and educational. Food was good and we learned a few kitchen skills
Pedro was wonderful. Took the time to answer any and all questions. Was enthusiastic about so many different parts of the fresh market and how it all worked in Lisbon. The class was great, patient and guiding us through all the steps and encouraging everyone. I highly recommend the Cooking School tour
We had a wonderful time with Chef Gui. He took us to the daily fresh produce and meat market to have a local cheese and bread tasting and to purchase our ingredients for the class. We returned to a well equipped facility to prep and cook and eat our traditional meal together. Lots of laughs.
Delicious soup, cataplana and orange cake dessert. Wonderful. A delightful, thoughtful experience.
The Lisbon Market and Food Tour with Cooking Class was exceptional! Renata, our guide and instructor is an absolute delight. She clearly loves people and cooking. Her kind and entertaining demeanor made the experience unforgettable. Don't miss this opportunity!!!
We loved our morning at market and the cooking class with Roberta, it was fascinating to see the fish traditional market, I never seen so many types of fish and seafood before, we tested some wonderful traditional breads and cheeses, and after buying our fishes and seafood for the lunch cooking we returned to a great cooking facility. We had so much fun cooking together and drink wine at the same time, when we finished cooking we enjoyed wonderful lunch together, overall I would recommend this nice cooking in Lisbon very much!
This was a totally enjoyable experience, run in an extremely professional manner.
We were greeted by Pablo, who was our Chef for the day. Once everyone else arrived, we walked for about 5 minutes to the local market, where he bought beautiful fresh fish and seafood, and fruit etc for our lunch.
We then walked back to a very professional kitchen, where we all contributed our effort to produce a delicious lunch, with very good wine.
We were taught great skills, for example, filleting a fish and shucking oysters.
We all thoroughly enjoyed our day, and felt that it was extremely good value for money.
Thank you Pablo.
A fantastic experience! From the market tour (with bonus history lessons) to the snacks to the cooking instruction and the meal itself, we had a wonderful time. Our host was witty and knowledgeable, great with children and adults alike. We’d recommend this to any group, small or large. The cooking space was clean, large, well-equipped and comfortable. Our host was engaging and skilled, deftly moving from station to station to offer instruction and support. We’d return any time.
Our family had a great time with Chef Paolo visiting the incredible market and cooking up a delicious meal. He got our teens engaged and they learned a lot and had fun! Wonderful experience!
What an amazing immersion experience with Chef Pedro! We started off the lesson visiting a local market where we shipped for fresh seafood and vegetables for our ingredients. While there we also got to sample local bread and cheeses. The class itself was a bit of work but lots of fun. Even my teenage daughter enjoyed rolling up her sleeves and learning to cook. We made a 4 course meal consisting of bread soup, mussels, seafood captaplana and orange torte. We also got to sample some oysters and goose barnacles. All in all a wonderful way to spend 1/2 a day learning more about the Portuguese culture. Highly recommend!
