This was great - you need to do this!! Paula met us at the ferry and then we went to the market and stores to pick up our food and then went back to her apartment to cook. She was so good with the kids and made sure we were all included. The food turned out amazing and even my kids ate! Hearing her story was so great and we loved it !

Paula was fabulous!! This was more than just a cooking class. We are seasoned cooks yet we learned so much from Paula. We learned whisking techniques, working with puff pastries and identifying bad clams. Paula was very knowledgeable of the area. Very fun and kind. We really enjoyed our day.

What a fun few hours with Paula! My wife and I took the 10m ferry ride from cais de sodre to cacilhas which was a wonderful start to the morning and had the best views of the bridge. Paula met us and took us to a quaint local market. Everyone knows her there and it was so great to see multiple generations operating the stalls. Then we went to her place and made some fish curry, pasteis de nata and chorizo, accompanied by rice and fresh bread. She gave us a choice of Portuguese or Goan (my heritage) dishes. The food was so good and I can't wait to try the recipes back home. Paula is so wonderful and patient. Even tho' it was a half day of our 3 days here, I would highly recommend this experience for some truly local flavor!

Lovely and informative. An afternoon well spent. Paula was a font of knowledge and a gracious host the food was muito gostoso!

    Great Day!

We had a great day with Paula. She is very knowledgeable about cooking, but especially pastry desserts. Her pastel de nada were out of this world. It was fun getting to experience a typical day in the life of a local, learn a few tricks, and eat some great food. Also Paula is very accommodating with the selection of recipes and types of food. If you don’t like something, she will work around it.

    Goen cuisine in Lisboa

    Jan_B, Oct 2024
Learned fun cooking techniques. Enjoyed the Goen spices. Custard making was amazing and tasted wonderful. Came in as students, left as friends.

    Lovely and intimate learning experience

    Brian_G, Aug 2024
Such a lovely experience. Paula was so very personable and knowledgeable about live in Lisbon and the cacilhas area. Meeting was across the river at the ferry terminal. We walked along the riverside learning about each other, we arrived at the market where we had some of the freshest plums and fruits we’ve had in a while. We returned to her house and made a mix of Goan and Portuguese dishes followed by pasteis de nata. We enjoyed her company and appreciated her recommendations for other parts of the city .

    More than just a meal

Paula is amazing! She hosted my wife and I on our honeymoon. She hosted us at her house, offered some interesting dishes we could choose and suggested a few classics. From seeing and gathering ingredients to the fun, leisurely pace of cooking, to great conversations over a meal, it was an experience we won't forget! Also, Paula has an amazing backstory and we were so impressed by her as a person. She is a pillar of the community and gives back so much to those around her. Her passion and care is infectious even if she's not one to brag about herself. Get to know her - she's amazing!

    Authentic Portuguese meal and home

We had a lovely afternoon with Paula and she was very gracious even though I didn’t get her communication via WhatsApp She was gracious and so informative The food was delicious as well

Great instruction! Great meal! Great day!

Paula met me at the ferry exit and we started the day with a lovely walk along the Tagus river where Paula provided history of the buildings that had once housed fish operations. We then visited the market to select the fish and sides for our meal. It was such a great experience to process the creation of a meal while chatting in her apartment in the center of Cacilhas. Our meal was delicious. I had a great time. So much better being in a home kitchen rather than a commercial “school setting.” And I finally learned how to cook fish in salt! Great teacher! Five stars!!!

One of the most unique and exclusive experiences me and my gf have ever experienced. Right from the start Paula was very inviting and made us feel comfortable in her hometown of Almada. Loved the fact that we actually picked out our own ingredients from the local market. Paula not only taught us about clever cooking tricks but also taught us about the Portuguese culture as well. We def made a friend while we were there! Obrigada Paula!!

    Wonderful host.

    Brian_B, Feb 2024
Paula is a fantastic host, she welcomes you into her home and makes you feel like family. I couldn't imagine a better day than the day we spent with Paula cooking and learning about the surrounding area. One of our best days on our trip to Portugal.

    Lisboa Cooking Class

Paula met us at the ferry. We enjoyed our waterfront walk to the markets where we given some of the history of Almada. We shopped and then went to her home and prepared lunch. She explained how to prepare foods with precision and passion. We shared a delicious lunch of Sukkem Clams, Goan Fish Curry with Basmati Rice and Pasteis De Nata. Paula cooks from her heart and her senses.

    Delicious Goan Fish in Lisbon

    Deann_V, Dec 2022
Toured parts of Lisbon we would never have seen on the way to the Market. Wonderful fresh fish market with lots of interesting creatures. Went back to her apartment for a full meal featuring delicious Goan Fish made with Grouper. A different day from the museum and other tours.

    Paula is an amazing human

    Dan_F, Oct 2022
While it was absolutely pouring rain, Paula lit up our spirits and taught us a lot about Lisbon, cooking and life. She is a regular celebrity it her community with everyone from market owners to folks in the street stopping to say hello. Our food turned out well and we enjoyed the day.

What a wonderful way to experience a piece of Portugal!

    Sandra_G, Oct 2022
Actually spending time with Paulinha! She was such a delight. Sharing stories of her life in Portugal and the role food played in the lives of her family and friends. If I lived in Portugal she would certainly be among my circle of friends. Thank you for a wonderful day visiting the market, preparing the delicious food (and wine)!!

    Excellent culinary experience!

    Alex_D, Oct 2022
Such a wonderful experience! Paula provided such a local and customized experience. The market tour of local places to shop was so nice. Cooking with her was so relaxed and informative. It was personakized and a nice change in pace. Gained so much cultural and historical knowledge while eating and drinking well. This experience is highly recommended!

    Dirty, unorganized

    rrsharp25, Sep 2022
Paula was lovely- her apartment was filthy and the cat had taken over the place. The market was dirty and under serviced

Pleasant host, but not value for money.

    David_H, Sep 2022
On reflection we were disappointed with the experience. Paula was a lovely host but the market, the cooking afterwards, the lack of focus and environment does not justify the price. It was all a bit chaotic as Paula was catering for others whilst we were there which sometimes took focus away. It all seemed rushed.

    Excellent experience with...

    chris_r, Sep 2022
Excellent experience with great stories of the place, people, and Paula’s family. Great food as well.

    Made a delicious friendship!

    Jen_D, Jul 2022
I came to find some cultural cooking tips, walk through the fish market, and enjoy a tasty meal. I left having found a friend - and much more cooking knowledge than I can digest, for now. Our day was an unexpected adventure that let me experience a day in the life of a Portuguese resident - to feel, for a delightfully fleeting moment, that I was part of this community. Paula is a great communicator before (and after) the event which helps her tailor it to her audience. It's a very informal experience that feels like you're cooking with a long lost Aunt.

    Cooking, conversation, and company

    Steve_L, Feb 2022
Paula was wonderful, the food was great, and we learned so much about cooking, food, and Portuguese culture. If this is available, book it, it will be your favorite memory.

    Fantastic Paulinha!

    Shelley_C, Jan 2022
I wanted to do something different and fun while I was in Lisbon. This was my fifth trip so I had done most of the tourist things. Paulinho's cooking class was just fantastic. She is very organized and considerate as to what you want to make. I cannot recommend this class enough. Do not let the ferry ride(10 min) deter you. It is very easy and your subway pass works on this as well.

Recommended activity, way beyond just cooking!

    Ronit_B, Nov 2021
Paulina met us at the ferry station, and we walked together through a very scenic route to her studio, stopping at the market on the way, and getting to know eachother. At the studio we cooked more than 3 dishes following her precise instructions, and then ate what we prepared, which was very tasety. The whole event took much longer than planned, without even noticing… Paulina is an extremely welcoming and interesting host - we reccomend this experience to those who are interested in people and food combined. We loved it.

    An amazing experience.
