we loved this tour! our guide was so knowledgeable and really strove to give us a great experience of Ketchikan. we were very lucky to see a mama bear and her cubs at the creek which was definitely the highlight of the tour, but alaska’s natural beauty already made it worthwhile.
Andrew_l, Jun 2026
Guide was a local of the tribe and had good inside knowledge of sites we visited. Guide added extra time to schedule.
Kellyhunterkurvink, Jun 2026
Our guide was informative and fun. We got to see a wild bear! Learned a lot about the history of the totem poles.
Hajra_H, Jun 2026
Very organized and lots of information given. We got to see ballad eagles rotary beach- sad we didn’t see bears but our guide was super nice. My daughter and I went on this while my husband and boys went salmon fishing.
Tim_H, Jun 2026
We saw zero wildlife. Drove the van around town mostly. Mostly history about the city and short stops
Abel_T, Jun 2026
Great tour guide
, friendly, knowledgeable, respectful and a native with lots of experience. Lllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll
Amanda_T, Jun 2026
We did not do all the itinerary’s. We were supposed to go to rotary beach for tidepooling and did not go. The guide acted like he did not wanna do his job. I suggest not to go with this tour company. Horrible experience
Deivid_S, Jun 2026
This excursion was pretty boring, not worth it. We just drove around and the stops weren't really fascinating.
Debbie_W, Jun 2026
We had a great experience with a local guide. He gave us so much information about the town and Alaska. We felt safe the entire trip. Highly recommend.
GEORGE_W, Jun 2026
It’s all about the guide = he/she will make the experience or break it. Stormin Norman broke it. I asked two questions = the first response was “I’ll talk about that later” and he never answered the question! 2nd response to my other question was “the answer is on a sign”. I did not need to pay a guide to read signs?? Kept asking if anyone had questions but his answers made us feel like “better not ask anything” ! Someone asked how cold do you think that water gets = his response was “cold”. Really? it felt like we were being treated as if we’re stupid. Disappointing to say the least = we saw an eagle but he said everyone come over here now - a patron said “ we just saw an eagle land” he said “yeah I saw that” smh. He’s tone deaf and does not understand the notion of flexibility, customers are paying customers, accommodations are critically important. A company can only grow on the backs of the employees who are customer facing - he’s gonna run customers away.

We thank you for your review and for bringing this to our attention. I can assure you these issues will be addressed.

Hal, bring a local was very knowledgeable especially when it came to his childhood tribe experiences, he was great
David_T, Jun 2026
It was great to hear about Hal’s life in Ketchikan. We looked hard for animals but only a few bald eagles around given we were too early for the salmon to be running and the bears stayed in hiding.
KeishaPrime, Jun 2026
It was ok. It would help of they had voice amplification because at the back of the van we really couldn't hear what the guide was saying so I felt like I missed a lot. Guide was a bit militant as well.
Victoria_J, Jun 2026
We had a very informative, local born tour guide who knew a lot of details about the stops that many may not know. We were able to see a black bear, multiple bald eagles, ravens, and a deer out and about plus we saw some sea life at Rotary Beach. The Totem Pole Village was a neat spot to stop with a lot of history and our tour guide actually helped build the building many years ago. Unfortunately there were no salmon running yet, but it was cool to drive by the fish ladder at Creek Street. I do recommend bringing your rain coat, binoculars and of course a camera. We traveled with our family including our 2 kids under 10 and would recommend this tour. This tour was well worth the fee.
Marit_D, Jun 2026
Wildlife did not show up, not the fault of the company, just bad luck for us. Was nice to see a bit of Ketchikan on the van ride to a beach (for whale sightings), up a small road to look for bears, and out to a beautiful roadside waterfall. Not much hiking or walking involved. Ended at the Saxman clan house. Hal is very informative about the indigenous Tlingit community. I think later in the season when the salmon are running the experience will be better.
Yvette_C, Jun 2026
Shane was great! He gave us a complete history lesson on Ketchikan, the in and out and what life is like for the people in the area. I would highly recommend taking his tour. He even spotted a Bear at Herring Cove before anyone and made sure the other tour company knew a bear was in the area.
Kelvin_O, Jun 2026
A great way to meet a local and be shown around there home town.
Our driver was a native klingit indian gentleman 80 years old.
Lydia_C, May 2026
Picked up and driven in a small van by Shane who provided loads of information.
Took us to some sites and we had a good couple of hours searching for wildlife and looking at views.
Susan_C, May 2026
The bus was 20 minutes late and the driver was very hard to understand it was very disappointing we stopped at a water fall on the road side and a park land area which was lovely and to look at driftwood all nice but not when you’re showing off your area then back to ship at least 3/4 of an hour short
YVONNE_B, May 2026
Great to get outside of somewhat touristy Ketchikan and see some of the surrounding countryside. We were able to take our collapsible wheelchair and this was one of the very few tours that this was possible. More please ! Stormin’ Norman was a great guide and driver. He kept us amused with his tales.
Sue_G, May 2026
The driver is a smoker and although the vehicle didn’t reek of it, you could tell that he smoked in the vehicle. It could be problematic if you have allergies. The step into the vehicle was high and he didn’t have a stool of any kind, with the rain and slippery surfaces it’s an accident waiting to happen! I have a hip issue and found it very difficult to get into and out of the vehicle without a step stool.
Vanessa_L, May 2026
I have been travelling for nearly 3 weeks done multiple wildlife watching tours in hopes of seeing a bear and just before having to leave to catch the cruise ship we saw one!!! Absolutely loved the tour amazing!! Will book a tour with Seaside Tours again. Also saw a Bald Eagle feasting on a carcass. Bonus :)
Andrew_W, May 2026
Shane from Seaside Tours takes on a journey of discovery around Ketchikan informing you of the local history keeping us entertained all the way
Amanda_R, May 2026
Shane was our tour guide and he was Amazing! He answered all of our questions and gave us time to each stop to get pictures and admire where we were. I would definitely recommend this company to do your touring with in Ketchikan
jscoffin, May 2026
It exceeded my expectations and we got to see a bear!
The guide was extremely knowledgeable about the town, area and wildlife and I learned a lot.
Cece_M, May 2026
Shane was fantastic! You definitely get the local perspective and knowledge. Best 2 1/2 hrs spent on shore.
Heidy_G, May 2026
I contacted provider and he never called me back.
Lets start with their itinerary. They offered:
1.- “ Ketchikan creek and falls
Here you will see thousands of salmon as they migrate up stream to their spawning spot.
See pink coho an Chinook. As this is their favorite spot. Spawn”
Well there is no salmon this time of the year. So you will see none.
2.- “ Rotary Beach
Here we'll start with some beachcombing. As we look for gold. (Fools gold that is.) This beach offers a wide verity of sea creatures.
Crab, starfish, sea anemone, abalone Sea urchins. An a good possibility to see whales.“
Well this was really a bathroom stop of 5-10 minutes. We were not allow to go down to the beach or anything. Just to go to the bathroom. Obviously no gold no wildlife and no whales.
3.- “ Ketchikan
Our next stop is at a beautiful cascading water.
A great photo opportunity.”
That we did.
4.- “ Herring Cove
At Herring Cove. We get a chance to see a wide verity of birds. Seal. Bears, Eagles. An deer.”
We stopped there for 5 minutes. We were not allow to walk around or anything. Just parked and stood there for 5 minutes and left.
5.- Saxman Tribal House
Learn the history of the totem. View the largest totem pole collection in SE Alaska, watch as master carvers create new an amazing works of art. An keep the traditional ways alive.
That we did.
In general it was mostly a drive by city tour. Like i explained in detail important parts of the itinerary were skipped and sadly this was a short stop so the robbed us the opportunity of doing any of this stuff because we had to go back to the ship right away. We were with a big group and they felt as cheated as we did. They were very disappointed and unhappy. So in summary unless you want a drive by tour. DO NOT HIRE THIS TOUR.
Sue_S, May 2026
- meant to be 2.5 hours. Only just over 2
- couldn’t hear the guide on the bus. When we said something he just said “turn your hearing aid up ! “
- only stopped for 10 mins to try and spot bears - which were the highlight. No bears seen 😪
- Guide didn’t tell us why we were stopping Had to ask someone else.
- Didn’t visit the beach as described in brochure
- No water offered.
Really felt this was NOT worth the money Veryoverrated.
Robert_J, May 2026
Ask for Shane. Well knowledge, good person, knows the history. Excellent guide. Takes excellent care of his patrons
Paula_B, May 2026
Norm made the tour great sharing history and interesting facts. Overall the stops besides the waterfall and Herring Cove were not great. This is an overpriced tour. Value maybe $60 not $95
Response from Host, May 2026
Norms salary, cost of insurance, fuel, permits daily maintenance, snacks, and other fees associated Saxman fees I believe for the price the stops provided a good All-In-One adventure.
I think we are very well priced. Our stops some love more then others. For the majority the route works.
We thank you for your review. And the business advice.
