This tour was a real treat. The fresh green Tongass forest is amazing. Learning the history and stories behind totem poles was quite amazing. Jamie really knew her stuff. It makes a difference when your guide has lived in the area for a long time and really knows all about it. I would recommend it for a great afternoon.

Kevin was a fantastic guide! He taught us so much, kept it fun, provided delicious cookies, and made sure to return us to our ship with time to spare. The rain forest was gorgeous, and we loved learning about the history of totem poles.

Incredible experience

Joseph_D, Sep 2025
Go for it. The rainforest experience really bordered on the spiritual. Our guide Kevin was incredibly knowledgeable and provided a deep understanding of the area. So glad we booked

Enjoyed my hike

Charles_K, Sep 2025
The trail we hiked was a a good example of a temperate rainforest. The waterfall was especially impressive (missed seeing a bear too).

A wonderful excursion with Kevin

Elaine_W, Sep 2025
The best experience with Kevin! We met Kevin outside of the cruise port in Ketchikan (a little confusion with the meeting place because of Viator's error in their description of the meeting place... No fault of our wonderful tour guide)! Kevin drove us to Tongass National Forest where we hiked the beautiful forest there and saw so many incredible trees, and Kevin described so much as we walked along this amazing area! The trail is so well marked, a little difficult for folks who don't walk well, but absolutely gorgeous for those who love nature. Our weather yesterday was outstanding also! After the walk, we had delicious cookies and bottled water and then headed to the Potlatch Totem pole museum and site Just amazing!!! Loved every minute of this wonderful experience!! Thanks so much, Kevin!!

Beautiful nature

Pete_S, Sep 2025
Tucker was amazing! He was especially thoughtful to know when low tide was going to be there so we could see all of the starfish and shells on the beach. The rainforest and all the water coming off the glacier was beautiful. The first nation information in totem poles were amazing that people lived in such a beautiful environment that could be so harsh. Learn so much and have a great time.

We really enjoyed the forest and beach walk. Our guide was very informative and funny. The Totem park tour was pretty special.

Great way to see Ketchikan

Alissa_S, Aug 2025
This was a great tour in Ketchikan. The guide was very knowledgeable about the area, and the nature we saw on our hike. He was engaging with the kids on the tour, and offered us interesting information that was never overwhelming. The hike was on the easy side, so you don't need to be really into hiking to enjoy (we aren't and were worried about it!). Also, the cookies that were served after the hike were amazing.

Rainy day in the forest

Disappointing and unprofessional tour experience

Carol_B, Jul 2025
We recently went on a rainforest tour in Ketchikan, Alaska, and unfortunately, it did not meet expect expectations. Especially considering this is once in a lifetime trip for us. We were looking forward to learning about the rainforest, wildlife and local ecology. Tucker was largely disengage. We asked questions and you often didn’t know the answers or gave a vague reply. We also felt that it would’ve been great if he gave the group the opportunity to use the restroom before the travels. Once asked about the restroom he stated that the only place to relieve yourself was near a tree. We left disappointed and we absolutely do not recommend this tour to others. It was not worth the money.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Hello Carol, I'm sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. I have shared this feedback with our team so that we can learn from our mistakes. Tucker works hard to bring a good experience to everyone and enjoys sharing his knowledge with everyone.

Excellent excursion

Tammy_H, Jul 2025
Jeff was an excellent tour guide. Gave us a lot of history and very informative. He brought us water and a cookie for a snack. I recommend this tour for everyone!

Great Excursion

We had a group of 6 and had an amazing time with Kevin. The rainforest hike and totem pole park was the best excursion for our group. We had 2 kids with us, who loved this excursion

Response from Host, Aug 2025

We ended up being the only two guests on this tour later in the day, so we really enjoyed a personalized experience. Kevin went at our pace and took time to point out cool things in the forest. He also told us a lot about the history of Potlatch Park. Would recommend!

Memorable experience.

Rosie_S, Jul 2025
My husband and I had an unforgettable experience on the rainforest walk in Ketchikan, Alaska, and seeing the handcrafted totems was stunning. We strongly recommend the Viator company and our guide, Josh! He is kind, patient, and very knowledgeable.

Kevin was a wonderful guide!! Really fun attitude and so patient with a large group. Definitely bring your rain gear in July (jacket, waterproof shoes, umbrellas would just get in the way). The cookies - OMG!! The rainforest was amazing and we learned so much. Also really enjoyed the totem pole village and hearing the stories. 10/10

Very interesting to learn about the Totem Poles! What an enlightening experience! Gave us a whole new perspective😊 Rainforest had beautiful falls and we went down many steps to the lake. Benches to rest along the way. Jeff, our guide was very knowledgeable and informative from the moment we got on the bus, until the end of the tour.

The most blah Viator experience

Kerrianne_R, Jun 2025
Not worth the price for the experience received. This is not the first Viator experience but it’s by far the most sub par. Nothing stands out and it started and ended before advertised. Also no cookies were handed out.

Samantha_H, Jun 2025
It was a beautiful place and I was really looking forward to it. Our guide could’ve been more informative. I know everyone is just trying their best, but I didn’t get very much out of it and it was a very simple walk and no native snack as indicated. It would have been nice to have lots of information shared by somebody more local and more lively.

A very good tour experience

Pradip_M, Jun 2025
The guide was very knowledgeable and forthcoming. His scientific background was helpful, Gave ample time to digest details of Totem poles.

Great experience!

Elianne_C, Jun 2025
This was a great exploration of the Alaska rainforest and learning about the environment. Our guide, Kevin, was full of knowledge about the rainforest and showing us different foliage that grows there. The walk led to a small beach and we even saw a seal swimming around, which was fun for the kids. We also had the opportunity to see the Totem Pole park and learn the history of the indigenous people. All around a great experience!

Great local insight

christine_h, Jun 2025
Great little excursion that really took us to the heart of local knowledge not read off a script. Kevin was a great guide, clearly loved what he was showing us.

Amazing Way to Connect with Nature in Ketchikan

Patti_R, Jun 2025
Our rainforest tour was exceptional! Zach, our tour guide, was full of in-depth knowledge. His love for nature, the culture, and the community shone through and made our experience even more enjoyable. Our tour started at a rainforest trail head where we hiked towards a beach and then made our way back. Along the way, we passed a few waterfalls and rapids. When we arrived at the beach, we saw a whale in the distance. The tour does have stairs, and some steep inclines (up and down), so be sure you are comfortable and able to traverse such terrain. We then continued to the totem pole park where we were lead around the grounds and given information regarding the culture and history. There was an opportunity to stop in the gift shop to peruse and have a bathroom break. Some logistical information to know before you go. If booking as an excursion from a cruise, the tours will pick up participants from all cruise ports, so timing may not be exact and the experience may not look like the other tours that are specifically only picking up from your exact cruise with a sign at the time of disembarking. They provide you with a number to call if you have any questions and were very responsive!

Awesome tour

Guillermo_P, Jun 2025
Out tour guide Austin was fantastic. He is a local to Alaska and was very knowledgeable about everything. The tour includes a hike through a portion of Tongass National Park, and a visit to a totem park. The tour is not rushed and it is very informative. The sights are awesome.

Our guide Austin was very knowledgeable and also laid back. He did not hurry us and kept the pace easy for the walk in the rain forest. Thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would recommend it to others.

Awesome experience!

Amanda_V, May 2025
We had an amazing time on this tour! Zack was an awesome guide! He was very knowledgeable and he was engaging and entertaining and even kept our kids attention (so much that I think our youngest son now wants to be an adventure guide! ) We had a small tour group (just our family of 5 and another couple, we felt like we had our own personal tour guide! The rainforest was beautiful and we really enjoyed ourselves exploring and seeing the waterfront, skipping stones, finding cool rocks and seeing ocean life! After we left the rainforest, we went to the totem park, where we had delicious cookies! Zack was a wealth of knowledge about the totem poles and the history of the area. He really made our time in Ketchikan awesome and we learned a lot and loved every minute of it! Truly a great experience! We would totally recommend this tour to anyone and everyone!

Casual and informative, smaller-group tour.

David_L, May 2025
Our guide, Kevin, was great. The totem park was cooler than I expected and he explained the legends depicted by some of the art. The natural terrain is so interesting I could have easily done 3 hours just in the forest.

Great excursion

Joanne_M, Apr 2025
This was a great tour. The venues, the Tongass National Forest and Potlatch Totem Park were great and interesting, but what made our excursion, was Zach, our guide. This guy brings an unbelievable amount of energy with him and his love of what he is doing and his surroundings is contagious. He was extremely knowledgeable and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with him. He even brought yummy cookies for a snack! I also want to say that I contacted Adam, I believe, with questions, 5 o'clock in the morning and he immediately got back to me. This is a great activity if you are in port and they are very accommodating. Highly recommend. Another bonus...their pricing was much more reasonable than the cruise line!
