Emily and Vesna were our guides and they did a great job. We E-biked for 20-30 minutes and then parked bikes and went on a short hike through the beautiful rain forest. They were informative and personable and we enjoyed it a lot. We also saw some deer, so made it even better!

We loved this experience! The bike ride can be as easy or difficult as you’d like, by choosing the amount of assist. It was a beautiful ride that took us to a 1 mile gentle hike through the rain forest and down to the tide pools.

Itinerary

Kick off your Ketchikan adventure with a convenient hotel or port pickup, or meet at the central meeting point. Embark on an e-bike tour into Tongass National Forest, where the electric assist feature eases your uphill journey.

As you explore, you might see local wildlife like deer or salmon, especially during certain seasons. Your guide, well-versed in the area's ecology, will lead you to notable spots and teach you about local wildlife and plants, adding depth to your experience.

Along the way, discover Ketchikan’s "Road to Nowhere," with opportunities to dismount for a guided hike. Discover picturesque scenes including waterfalls, beach views, and dense forest trails.

Pause along the sea shoreline, where marine life such as porpoises, seals, and sea lions are often sighted.

Later, refuel with snacks like smoked salmon and refreshments, with vegan options available. The tour then concludes with a return to your original meeting point.

Highly recommend!

Do it! My sons and I absolutely loved doing this tour. We love biking so we thought it would be a great experience! Our guides were great and super helpful. The e-bikes were cruisers and not what we expected (we are mountain bikers so I think we thought more along those lines) but they were super fun! We rode all the way to the end of pavement and got off bikes to hike into Tongass National Forest to the beach. Our guide explained the plants and animals in the area. We played a ‘Snack or poison’ to discuss local plants. Even ate some deer heart leaves and Sitka spruce tips. We found starfish during low tide. We had so much fun, one of my sons talked to the guide and swears he wants to go one summer to work there! Great tour away from the chaos of the port.

Great guide.

Great guide (Vessna). Easy ride and hike. Bikes cruiser type. Staff friendly and prices seem reasonable for Alaska ports.

Worth the price, great exercise!

An exciting way to experience the rainforest and coastline in Ketchikan! Vessna and Emily were both very knowledgeable about all vegetation and paths. It was fascinating and the e-bikes are fun and easy!

Bike to Hike

If you haven’t ridden a bike in a while, make sure to practice first, your balance may have changed…. After that learning to add the assisted “help” of the E- bike, ramp up slowly, once you get it, it’s great. Enjoy this amazing experience.

E-biking in Ketchikan

The actual bike ride and short hike thru rainforest was very nice. It is a bit rushed to get it in. 25 minute travel time before and after. Good bikes. Pick up wasn’t at my ship’s berth. Missed my scheduled time but was squeezed on one 1.5 hours later. Wasted an hour of time. But rain had stopped when we got to the place where bike was. Would have rather had 15+ minutes more time on hike than the snack time when back at the ‘office’. They supply rain gear…. We were in a small group of bicyclists. Probably would make a difference if group was bigger. THE HIKE HAS BIG/steep STEPS… a bit tough for short legs. AUSTIN was good and knows his stuff. Good at leading the bike ride and the hike.

E-bikes to rainforest (keep looking)

E-bikes go along a road with cars. Be prepared for some vehicles zooming by. E-bikes do not have saddle bags, baskets, or water bottle carriers. No throttle on the e-bikes; pedal assist only. Rainforest is awe inspiring. Uneven trail with some steps. Overall experience was mediocre; guide wasn’t up to the caliber expected and expensive for what you get.

Loves this. Perfect amount of “power assist “bike and hike. Great for all levels. Our guide Amelia was amazing , knew so much about plants and forest . Highly recommend.

Ebike and Hike

Great guides in Austin and Emily. Would definitely recommend! They made it a great experience. The weather was also much calmer than expected given the rain in the forecast.

Bike tour

Cary_N, Jun 2026
Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Facility provided waterproof rain gear which was a huge convenience. We had brought our own but thiers were definitely high quality gear that kept us dry. We biked in the rain and then hiked in the rain forest for a short distance. We walked down to the waterline at rise of low tide. Staff found sea creatures for our group to see and hold. They helped everyone to take pictures of the group. Outstanding experience. Only downside was the weather. Rained 80% of tour which made it hard to enjoy scenery during bikeride.

Fun tour

Lawrence_S, Jun 2026
If you've never ridden an e-bike, this tour is a great introduction. They even supply water-repellant jackets. Our guide, Amy, narrated a great tour though the rain forest and showed us which plants are edible. Depending on the time of year, you might see waterfalls, bears tide pools, or salmon swimming upstream. This was a great excursion from our Norwegian cruise ship, and the perfect level of exercise after a few days of eating and napping.

Fantastic Experience!

Erin_N, Jun 2026
We had an incredible time! The bikes were in perfect working order and the tour guides were fantastic. The meeting location was simple to find (be sure to look on their website for pictures of the meeting point). They picked us up in comfortable 15 passenger vans and took us to their location. The location had bathroom facilities that were very clean. Austin and Vessa were our tour guides and were so knowledgeable about the area and had an obvious passion for what they do. They were very kind and took a lot of time explaining different things we were seeing. They were truly fantastic. The bike ride and hike were very easy and not strenuous at all. The hardest part of it all was walking the bike up a hill before the ride but it was super short and everyone in our group was able to do it just fine. This was a great way to experience the area and learn more about the rain forest in Alaska. I would highly recommend this excursion and especially this company to anyone! Thank you for such a memorable time!

Great outing in Ketchikan

Exciting e-bike ride to Tongass Rain Forest. Our guide and his coworker did an excellent job with everything. Our guide through the forest, Austin, was very knowledgeable and did a great job educating us about the local Alaskan plants and wildlife. Definitely recommend this experience

Great Excursion

James_B, Jun 2026
You have about a 25 minute ride from the pickup out to the biking and hiking spot. It was a beautiful day and our guide Austin was very knowledgeable regarding all plant life and animal life in this beautiful area. We saw about 8 bald eagles flying and playing with each other.

The guides were very nice, but provided zero information about Ketchican during our van ride. The bike ride and hike was nice. The tide was low so we got to walk in the tidal pool and saw starfish and other creatures. We received remarkable little information from our guide aside from a few tree facts.

Great experience and learned a lot from our guides. Bikes were easy to use and although the weather was chilly and raining, the waterproof pants provided kept us dry. One suggestion to the tour company is to state that the meeting point was right outside the large retail shop at the pier Sockeye Sam’s, rather than the address. The address was Sockeye Sam’s and they are not affiliated with the tour company. Slightly confusing. Our guides Emily and Vesna were terrific. Hot cocoa at the conclusion of the ride was welcomed!

It was fun to do something off the beaten path. The bikes and the guides were all fantastic and we got lucky and we were able to walk along the coastline at low tide on a perfectly sunny day!

E-bike & Hike

Anitra_W, Jun 2026
Had a great time with a small group of 12. Very friendly driver and tour guide, Sara! Caught a quick glimpse of a whale strolling along the shore too!!

Great experience

Rebecca_K, May 2026
We had a group of 7 and the excursion was great! The staff went above and beyond to accommodate everyone. Our mom had a hard time with the hike and one of the staff members walked back with her. It did rain on us, but the rain pants, jackets and gloves they provided were a lifesaver. Would recommend!

E Bike and Eco Hike

Elizabeth_G, May 2026
This was a great excursion! The e-bikes were great, smooth, easy to operate (and made the hills so much easier!). The scenery was amazing and the hike was awesome - easy to navigate! Lots of opportunity for pictures along the way. We saw some sea stars and uni on the beach! The best things were Austin and Jesse - knowledgeable, (very), and professional and friendly and helpful. The snack at the end was a lovely surprise. We give it a a 10!

Enjoyable ride

Kevin_T, May 2026
The state forest was breathtakingly beautiful although it was raining, however we were provided wet weather gear

Great unique experience thanks to the guides.

Daniel_D, May 2026
Great safe unique experience. Austin and Jesse were great guides. Austin is from the area and was extremely knowledgeable about the island, the plants and wildlife in the area. Two of the best guides we've had! We had a unique experience getting to hike along the shoreline due to an extremely low tide. Austin showed us some of the sea stars and anemones in the tide pools. During the forest hike we learned a lot about the plants and wildlife on the island. Great combination of entertainment and education. Bikes were easy to operate. Only our second time on electric biles. Thanks guys for making this excursion memorable

Magical forest, beautiful beach, great photo ops

Jennifer_T, May 2026
The guides at Ketchican Kayak company took great care of us. It was a small group tour transported from the terminal in a passenger van. When you make the reservations you are asked your height so they have the appropriate size bike waiting for you. I'm 5' and had a 24 in perfectly sized bike. The bikes make the hilly terrain easy. The Tongas forest was beautiful and our guide shared lots of info on the salmon stream, giant trees, shrubs and logging history. The path has laid timbers to make steps so the trail is an eaiser hike. The tide was out at the beach, it looks just like the picture in the ad. Our guide found a purple starfish on the rocks. We spent a fair amount of time here and then back into the forest to continue on a bit then loop back to the bikes for the return trip.

Relaxed cycle and short Forrest walk

teresa_d, May 2026
Good correspondence A bit too relaxed and too slow -but if you not a biker nor hiker the this tour will suit you.

Bicycling and hike

Natalie_R, May 2026
Crystall and Emily were great guides, they had interesting stories to tell about the area and local plants. We enjoyed our tour. Bicycling was super fun.

Linda_H, Sep 2025
It's a great experience led by experts. Our guides were kind and patient giving e-biking instructions to a bunch of newbies and were very knowledgeable about the area during our forest hike. I'd advise anyone who's ever ridden a bike to give it try. It was a lot of fun!

PERFECT. This made my hole trip so much better

Joseph_W, Sep 2025
Chandler was my guide. He was so friendly. It was only myself and him. We did the hike in the woods and we saw at least 4 different bears. I will do this again. If I could attach a picture or a video of my bears I would. I loved it

Nice, beautiful day

angie_w, Sep 2025
My husband pulled his back the day prior to us leaving on our cruise and was unable to join. There were only three of us that day on the ebike/hike tour. Reivon and Dana were so kind, informative and truly let you ride at your pace with no pressure to keep up. They ride behind you. Dana mainly taught you the ebike tutorial and Reivon took over on the hike. The Ebikes are pretty simple but you definitely had to get use to the slight thrust forward when you began to pedal after resting going down a hill. The hike was a short one down to the ocean where you'll walk along the rocky shore. We were lucky enough to see a sea lion just off the coast, but saw no other wild life. We tasted different berries along the way and stopped at falls and waterways. Don't be afraid of the ebikes. You will get the hang of it. The hike is in and out. The red cedars are huge and beautiful.
