We scheduled this last minute due to bad weather having us in port for 2 days instead of 1. This was the perfect thing to do during the rain. The guides were all fantastic in their respective portions from learning about inside the mine from the son of a miner that used to work there to those teaching us about the history of the area and about how to pan for gold.

The hard hats were pretty nasty, but I enjoyed the tour. There was a family in the mine that was obviously stricken by some sort of respiratory ailment. The tour leader kept trying to get us all to move in closer; I kept declining to get too close to the sick family.

We were a group of 5 adults and this tour was great! Very informative, and also just really cool to go underground into the mine. I also really enjoyed gold panning, found about 8 flecks of gold! It was a good activity for the last day of our trip since it’s actually kind of relaxing, was a nice way to wind down and get a true Alaskan experience before heading home.

Lots of great info about mining around Juneau. They have condensed the experience to a short comfortable walk instead of having to walk miles underground. Absolutely enjoyable.

Thr grandkids loved it - ages 4 - 21. We found it interrsting as well HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Their bus was a few minutes late but if anything they allowed us more time to makeup for it.

This tour was very cool and the gentleman that did the tour was SOOO knowledgeable and had over 30 years experience working in mines. I wish I could recall his name but he was great. I loved his sense of humor and the drive up to the mine was so scenic and very elevated. We went down to pan for gold after and that was fun and pretty hard actually. They helped us out and showed us how to locate the gold and then we put into a little vial with water. The team was very friendly and very informative.

Didn’t really know what to expect on this excursion. Have to say it turned out to be great. Everyone involved was friendly and knowledgeable. Our guide in the actual mine was even a retired miner himself. Definitely a true trip into an actual old gold mine.

This gold mining is not like that in the Arizona. Maximum physical strength is required. The mine is on a hillside with lots of shade trees. We panned for gold in an elevated table and actually captured a few flecks of gold.
Mining machinery was left in place so I had the feeling that the crew was just taking a mid-day break.
We didn't get to our meeting point on time as we couldn't find our tickets but the tour operator called us and the bus to the pier to pick us up. Our pier happened to be very closer to the mine than was downtown.

That you go into an actual mine and be prepared for the wet and damp conditions. The kids loved going into the mine and seeing the equipment working. The gold mining at the end was also well worth the experience

Wife and I did this on 8/2/25 while on an Alaska cruise. Pick up info was precise, guide met on time, led us to the mines own shuttle bus and off we went. About a 10-15 minute ride or so to the actual mine. The tour inside the mine was good, the guide inside the mine was good. The guides outside the mine shaft were good and informative. Panning for gold was neat and we found a few specks of gold and the guy put them in a little vile for us to take home. Then we went into the mines gift shop area which was very nice and we met the mines owner. She was very nice and friendly to talk with. Then it was back on the shuttle and back to our starting and drop off point at the sky tram area. This was a good excursion and glad we did it.

First off, it is wonderful that they pick you up and drop you off at the port. The driver was so nice and kind. The guide for the mine tour is amazing. I believe his name was Gary, he is a veteran and also worked in mines for 38 years. After the mine tour we learned how the raw materials were processed, then panned for gold. I believe everyone got atleast one flake of gold and the staff was so helpful and kind. I definitely recommend this for all ages.

Do to a transportation issue on our end, we were unable to take our tour. Our money was refunded to us even though we were unable to give advanced notice of cancellation. A great company to work with!

On a day where it was pouring, this was the perfect excursion to get out of the rain! The tour of the mine was fascinating and getting to pan for gold was so much fun! Our little bottles of flakes of gold are proudly on my teen boys’ bookshelves.
