We could not find or board the bus at all. We saw the bus once for about 3 minutes when it stopped near the Boston Commons. This is a scam. We lost our money $108.00 (for two). DO NOT BUY TICKETS FOR THIS BUS. WORST VIATOR EXPERIENCE EVER !!! Better buy Trolley Bus tickets from the Haymarket or the Long Wharf near the Mariott.

It was great, seven of us put the QR code on their phone and away we went separate ways for the day. It went very smoothly. I’ve used Viator in many cities and love their services.

It was good to be able to see the city of Boston and learn information about its history.
It was a little challenging navigating where to find the map and meeting places on the Viator app.
Our tour guide gave a lot of information about the city.
We did wish there were more places on the tour.

Hambone was a super-entertaining and knowledgeable driver/guide. The 1.5-hour loop around Boston was just what we needed to acclimate to the city on our first visit.
Owner of Cruise Planners
Amy_S, Oct 2025
I work for Cruise Planners and bought 7 tickets for myself and my six clients. I called to verify before going on the trip where the bus pick up was going to be which I was told outside the terminal a few steps. I had two elderly clients who have issues walking and we ended up have to walk over a half mile to get our bus and I had to pay a cab driver $20 bucks to get the two people who couldn't walk over to the buses. Then we arrived at the bus and I was told my pick up location was not valid for the cruise terminal only in the city for which I called to verify we would be able to get on the bus at the cruise terminal. I was then charged an additional $75.00 for all 7 of us to get on the bus. Once on the bus two of my people needed to sit downstairs and the bus did not have air conditioning. It was extremely hot and my clients decided to get off the bus and not go on the tour. I was then stuck with the additional $75 plus all the $51.99 we all paid each to ride the bus. I was refunded by Viator for all of my clients including myself and I appreciate that. I am still out the $75.00 dollars for which the gentle that took my money said he would refund which has yet to happen. On top of that when I left the bus that afternoon the bus and the person who charge me the extra fee for everyone was driving the bus that just happened to drop me off directly at the cruise port (where I was told we could get the BUS). Totally unacceptable and I will not recommend this trip to anyone. I would like my additional funds returned and can be reached at a.sherman@cruiseplanners.com or by calling me at 772-288-3929.
Not what I was used to
Angela_Z, Oct 2025
For the price its not worth it. 8 stops only and maybe 1 or 2 are actually worth to hop off. No other languages available and the service wasn't the best either. The last bus also leaves at 4pm, quiet early... Will definitely better be one of the bus/cruise tours or another company with 13 stops min.
Get off and wait.
Mark_T, Oct 2025
It only has 8 stops and the website did not offer us a way to buy a ticket that included both red and blue bus routes. After riding the bus through one loop, we were told told to get off and wait for the next bus, because the one we were on was rerouted over to a cruise ship. It was an old and tired looking bus.
Wait times at the stops were excessive.
Shannon_H, Oct 2025
Loved the open air seating on the upper deck. Unfortunately we waited over an hour for the bus outside of cheers around 12pm on a Friday. We were told the bus would be around every ~30 minutes. That was VERY disappointing. When you pay so much for a vacation like this, an hour standing on the sidewalk twirling you thumbs every time you hop off the bus can significantly limit your bang for your buck. The old town buses stopped at this stop 8 times in that one hour window. Pay a little more and improve your experience ten-fold.
Sunny day

Nice tour but limited sights. You need other tours to see north church etc. need to purchase otheres

When you book this make sure the bus goes to the places you want to go as there are different routes to choose from. We did enjoy the commentaries and seeing the sights of Boston
Poor frequency
Arun_K, Oct 2025
There are multiple tour companies offering hop on hop off tours of downtown Boston. Ours (Hop on hop off open top double decker Bus) seems to have worst frequency. We waited for more than half hour for our bus to vome by while other buses, notably Trolley Tour buses, came by every 6-8 minutes or so. Wish we had known that before.
Hop on hop off

Great experience!! Dave was well informed and pointed out details we would have missed. Lots of fun!!!
Return bus to ship inconsistent
Stephen_P, Sep 2025
Bus back to ship doesn’t leave at regular intervals. Was told by employee at transfer point at 3:35 bus goes to ship every 20 min, we got on a bus at 3:50 (1st bus since 3:35), was told bus would leave at 4:00, bus did leave for ship until 4:20. This delay messed up our shipboard plans.

Great way to see city sites. Weather was great. Our tour guide was great as well. Hop on hop off bus was a very good choice.
Shameful Boston Sightseeing HopOn/Off Tour
Richard_M, Aug 2025
The Boston sightseeing hop on hop off route shows 15 stops and 3 sections
We got picked up at stop 13 on Summer street and driven in a mini bus not open top bus to stop 1. Here we were told to get on the open top bus which then took about an hour to cover stop 1 to 8 and return to stop 1. We went for some lunch and then came back to stop 1 to do orange route stops 9-11 to be told our ticket was not valid for this route and if we wanted to do it it would be a further $10 each - very angry by this point I refused
We then said we would just take the purple route back to stop 13 were we got off. Purple route covers stops 12 to 15. We were again advised our ticket did not cover this and it would be $10 each if we wanted to use that bus. We refused and made our own way back. What we believed we bought, a 15 stop hop on hop off sightseeing tour is not what we received.
I do not think this was Viators fault but Boston Sightseeing Hop on/off shady practice
I will be seeking a refund and would appreciate a response
Poor Experience
PAUL_S, Aug 2025
Not good. Could not hear the tour guide. When it started raining there were not enough seats for everyone.
Take the Trolley!!
Erin_V, Aug 2025
The Map on the site is NOT the map for this Big Red Bus pick up and drop offs. We spent $231.00 for 4 tixs that never got used as the bus stopped coming to the only location that was near us but was for the Trolley NOT the double decker hop on hop off.
The worse for the $$
Kathy_V, Jul 2025
Due to an ER on our route we either had to keep getting off & meet another bus or missed our routes. Drivers were quite confused with the situation. We finally gave up. Very disappointed
Guide are so kind
Karol_M, May 2025
They were so kind and nice giving directions and helping me out since I’m new in the city so they were really helpful ☺️

In the City where We Lived
Nanette_S, Oct 2024
My husband and I loved seeing the wonderful parts of the city that we enjoyed and remember so well when we lived in Boston for our first year of marriage on Commonwealth Ave in 1965.
Lovely day
Jennifer_B, Oct 2024
Our tour guide was awesome. She had great insight into the history of Boston! The sights were beautiful!
Great excursion in halifax
Geraldine_G, Oct 2024
Driver/tour operator was knowledgeable about the titanic sinking and the related survivors. It was a pleasant ride to Peggy's cove.

Joy_R, Oct 2024
We had to wait 30 minutes for the bus because we had just gotten to our stop when the bus left. It seemed like the other tour buses had more vehicles going. Otherwise, the workers were nice and helpful. We enjoyed the gentlemen who sang, he was fun. The last tour we went on played a voice tour guide. It was also raining and cold the day we went.
Avoid! SCAM!
Austin_B, Oct 2024
Did not have the option to even get off. I have requested a full refund. It rained the whole time. We only drove past 1/4 of the stops
Terrible. Don’t do it.
Lesli_K, Oct 2024
Terrible service. Ended up on a shuttle. Couldn’t see anything because the shuttle windows were small horrible communication. By the company.
Don’t buy this! Buy from the true Vendors.
Angela_O, Oct 2024
This website charges you double the price of just going downtown and purchasing the ride directly from the tour buses. The website also shows sold out on a ton of things we wanted to do but they are not sold out when you talk to the actual company providing the tours, rides, etc. this website also provides ZERO information on where to meet your tour ride. Thumbs down 100%. If I could have gotten a refund while we were walking around lost I would absolutely have canceled and booked with someone else. Super disappointed in everything!
Worth it if you want an elevated view of Boston proper.
Roslyn_W, Oct 2024
Tour guide was informative and funny. It is a great way to view downtown Boston if you’re tired of walking and just want to kick back and relax.
