Ben was an awesome tour guide. It was a really hot day, so he made sure to keep us in the shade as much as possible, which was great, especially with kids. He was very informative while keeping it very entertaining. Was a great way to spend July 4th. Would definitely recommend.

Perfect tour to get the important highlights of the freedom trail. Catherine our guide was excellent! She was very friendly and spoke loudly using a mic so that you could hear everything. She had great stories and funny interesting anecdotes to share. Would highly recommend this tour and Catherine is wonderful.

Exceptional. Neil was an excellent curator. We all learned quite a bit about the activities that led up to the American Revolution.

Birth of our nation through the eyes of John Hancock.

Felicia_B, Jul 2026
I highly recommend the guided Freedom Trail with someone in period dress. Our guide was John Hancock. Not only did we learn more about this founding father than he signed the Declaration of Independence with a large signature, but we were also able to see where history took place. Fascinating! We have been blessed. Our guide did a wonderful job keeping up with a large tour group! Our personal family has 4 children ranging in age from 17 yrs to 10 yrs. They all were glad they did this trail even if they started for “mom”. They also said they appreciated having the period guide and thought our tour was much more interesting for having John Hancock than the other tours they saw taking place with “modern tour guides”. As expected, it was a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes. Bring water with you. None of the walk was difficult. There were some uneven surfaces (cobblestone type, cemetery portion, up and down from curbs, etc.). Our pace was purposeful but comfortable. Our guide pointed out additional historic places/museums you can visit separately so the Freedom Trail would be a perfect start to your visit to Boston. We did our tour late morning on July 4th. Happy 250th Birthday USA!!!! It was hot but our guide was very considerate to find shady places for us to stop along the trail. John Hancock, you did an excellent job!!! I don’t know how you managed your period dress in the heat.

Ben is awesome

Wallace_M, Jul 2026
Took the review on July 3rd. The temp was about 100. Our tour guide Ben was incredible. He was kind, generous of spirit, very knowledgeable and quite entertaining. The heat did not affect his effort in any way. I would highly recommend the tour to anyone that is even remotely interested in History. Highly informative, very entertaining and all in all a wonderful tour. The only thing I would change would be to limit the size of the group. Our group was quite large, and if you weren’t careful you might miss some of what Ben was saying.

Top Historical Tour - Can’t Miss!!

Mark was an exceptional tour guide. It was fun, informative, funny, well paced and truly a top tier tour. He helped make my trip with my partner extra special. Highly recommend.

Lot of good information but group way too large

Nevenka_M, Jul 2026
Very knowledgeable engaging tour guide ( actual professional actor Neil ) However the group was very big ( at least 50 people) We struggled to hear

Wonderful historical tour of Boston!

Christopher_Z, Jul 2026
We loved the tour! Catherine was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about our American history. This was the perfect way to start our Independence Day weekend celebrating our nation's 250th birthday! Thank you for making this so memorable! Chris and Craig

Best Boston Guide!

kwzia, Jul 2026
Our guide was fantastic! One of the best guides I’ve ever had. The heat was unbearable and I went, planning to peel off early but because of his amazingly entertaining and informative stories- I stayed the entire time and was late for the Red Sox game!!! He made sure we found shade in the 95!degree heat- all the while he was dressed in his woolen costume!!! There were 3 young boys- ages 9-13 - who were totally engaged because of this guide. Bravo! Bravo!

Fun tour

We came to Boston for the weekend and had Ben as our tour guide. He was awesome and really friendly. He made the tour so fun.

Great experience

It’s well worth the money. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable. She did an excellent job! I recommend this tour

Good tour by guide but viator needs to be clearer on meeting location.

Carol_H, Jun 2026
The tour guide for this walking tour was very knowledgable and entertaining and I would recommend the tour. We did have difficulty finding the meeting point; however. We went to the address but it was unclear that the meeting point was in Boston Common, across the street from the address. Viator contacts should provide clearer information on location especially since they changed the location the morning of the tour. I was notified by text with the address change only. It was frustrating and viator should be more thorough.

Great walking tour with John Hancock!

Our guide, John Hancock, was great! Made the walk fun and highlighted some very interesting things along the way. Would definitely recommend!

Our guide was great. She was fun and informative. I have done the freedom walk before on my own without a guide, but the guide added so much more than what I could read on my own, and was well worth the small charge.

Glen_W, Nov 2025
Elizabeth was awesome. Our friends said they walked the Freedom Trail and we asked who they went with. They said they walked. It on their own. We are so glad that we chose to use a guide. Elizabeth added so much insight and perspective to the tour.

Excellent guide and stories

Elizabeth_D, Nov 2025
Our tour guide was excellent . She was dressed like a middle class woman from that time and had a lot of good history and stories we learned about the people in those times. Recommended this tour .

Great way to introduce the city to you

Adam_C, Nov 2025
The guide we had, Elizabeth, was so welcoming and informative. Great job of making the stories flow and tie into each other. It’s pretty crowded by other groups at every stop but she was easy to hear and understand the entire time. Great way to get a good introduction to the history and city streets.

Fun but very sketchy on the history

Geraint_T, Oct 2025
It was fairly good fun but the guide really needed to brush up on her history given this was billed as a historical walking tour. It was all a bit superficial.

Bad jokes in Boston

Colleen_G, Oct 2025
This tour was a joke - it is called the Freedom Trail tour and the guide never even mentioned the Freedom Trail. Our group had at least 80 people in it which was ridiculous trying go maneuver with that many people to the landmarks we walked to which were few and far between. The tour had us retracing our steps. We spent half the time crammed into a cemetery where the guide told bad jokes that we could barely hear. He spent the other half the time telling us about Sam Adams beer. Don’t waste your money. We ditched it after an excruciating hour.

Request Elaina

Marlene_F, Oct 2025
I have done the Freedom Trail tour 3 times but Elaina was by far the very best I’ve ever had. She was funny, smart, and made learning so fun and interesting. She was great with my 4 year old and our whole family just enjoyed her energy and presence. Would recommend anyone request her specifically as she made the tour I’ve done before new, exciting and fun!

Awesome for teens and grandparents

Bronie_B, Oct 2025
It was so interesting that we didn't want to miss anything Ben was saying. Very knowledgeable and skilled storyteller. Shared the warts and the glory of the people and the time.

Catherine the Great!

Colleen_O, Oct 2025
Catherine was amazing. She pointed out things I didn’t know about the freedom trail and cemeteries we visited. Did a great job of fielding questions the group had. It was a fun experience.
