I’ll be upfront: the morning of our excursion, our family had an emergency. We were rattled and running behind because of it, and in the chaos we arrived late and realized we were missing a passport for the border crossing. Both of those were on us.
Yes, the passport is a real requirement - I understand they couldn’t take us across the border without it. If they had simply said “we can’t proceed today, here’s a partial refund” or offered to rebook, I’d have accepted that as fair. That is not what happened.
Instead, after we honestly explained our family emergency and asked for any understanding at all, they told us they felt we had “wronged” them and would no longer take us. Then they kept every cent of the $981 we paid. No refund. Not partial. Not a credit.
A missing passport explains why the hike couldn’t happen. It does not explain keeping a thousand dollars for providing nothing and showing not a shred of decency.
Reputable operators build in some grace for emergencies and offer at least a partial refund when they render no service. This one saw a chance to pocket nearly a thousand dollars and took it without hesitation.
If you’re considering booking, know exactly who you’re trusting with your money: rigid, unsympathetic, and unwilling to do right when life goes sideways. There are kinder operators in Skagway - book with one of them.

Ben J. did a great job guiding us and making sure we are taken care of. Je kept us safe and got us back to the cruise ship on time. The hike is STRENUOUS. Our trip was end of June, there were lots of snow, he provided us with snow shoes and we had fun walking up and sliding down. Wear layers and you WILL get wet. 😊

Josh was a great guide! Even though we couldn’t summit the mountain due to weather conditions our guide made the best of it. He was super informative, out going and patient. We ended up climbing a smaller mountain and got a great view!
