What To Expect
Make your own way to the meeting point in town prior to departure, then board the 15- to 25-passenger minibus for your tour.
Your guide shares informative commentary as you head to White Pass, stopping when possible to see any wildlife along the way. If you're lucky, you might see bears, sheep, goats, marmots, or other native Alaskan animals. You also pull over to take in thundering waterfalls, historic landmarks, glaciers, alpine valleys, and the 'Welcome to Alaska' sign and the Yukon sign, and visit the gold rush town of Liarsville to pan for gold in their goldfields.
Your sled dog experience includes a ride in a 4-wheeler sled pulled by the dogs. So as not to overtax the dogs, going uphill and downhill the hardworking dogs receive help from the musher. Learn about the art of dogsledding from a Yukon mushing expert, and meet the puppies in the petting yard. Bring your passport for this experience just over the border in a remote part of Canada.
Your tour ends with your choice of drop-off at the original departure point.

We had an incredible time in Skagway with Chris as our guide! His friendly demeanor and engaging storytelling made the entire experience both fun and informative. He shared fascinating and relevant stories that brought the history of the area to life. The stop at the musher camp was a definite highlight—so unique and exciting! Core memory for sure!
We rode with Michelle and her sled dogs, (she has the coolest relationship with her dogs!) drank water straight from a glacier, and stopped to see a small black bear in nature!
All of this was set against the most breathtaking scenery you could ever imagine. Highly recommend this tour, and especially Chris—he made it unforgettable!

Excellent tour. Had a great time with the sled dogs and the beautiful nature during the sled dog pull.

Thank you for your kind review!

We loved this humble sledding camp and training center with their knowledgeable guides and sweet puppies! The land in the Yukon where the camp is was stunning and everyone we met was so kind and helpful. Our 9 year old loved it!

It was amazing. Our guide was full of great information on the area. I would absolutely do it again.

My husband and I had the experience of a lifetime. Our driver Tyler was fantastic! We stopped several times for photo ops. Once at the camp we were greated with so many adorable puppies! You can tell that the sled dogs love what they do. Watching them jump and bark from excitement was contagious. The scenery was breathtaking. Even stopped at a lake to let the dogs drink and cool down! Panning for gold was neat, you're pretty much guaranteed to get gold flakes. A core memory for life!

We had a great time. We were the first group there (yea!) so no one there yet, but because of they the dogs were EXCITED. My 8 yo, who is used to large dogs, was completely engulfed by nipping, jumping dogs. I literally had to pull dogs off. He thought it was funny, but know that pups will be pups and it could be overwhelming for you get kids not used to dogs.

Our guide Tyler was full of local knowledge and fun facts about Skagway and made the tour very interesting and entertaining throughout!
The tour itself was great too, the drive from town to the Sled Dog Kennel was beautiful and Tyler made sure to stop for plenty of pictures where possible.
The sled dogs were amazing and playing with the puppies was a personal highlight of ours.
Would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Skagway.

This was the BEST dog sledding tour! We really appreciated that Klondike tours offered a small bus with a max group of 15-20, as there were several large buses going other places. We talked to several others who went on different tours and this one was by and far the best. ❤️
Apparently there are 5 different “musher training camps” near Skagway, so tours go to different ones. At Iditarod training camp, we saw puppies, rode on a side by side pulled by the sled dog team, learned more about dog sledding, and panned for gold while meeting the owner and Iditarod racer, Michelle. It was incredible!
Our tour driver Tyler took us to a few scenic views and was full of great information on the drive. Would highly recommend this if you’re looking for a sled dog adventure!
Nicole_G, Sep 2025
Wonderful experience with the dogs. Tyler the tour guide great wealth of knowledge. And panned some gold to take home
Meghan_M, Sep 2025
Many Tours are large and only introduce you to the dogs that have competed in the Iditarod. This tour was small, and takes you to Michelle Phillips summer dog training facility. We met her and her trainers and dogs and it was amazing. Our driver, Tyler, was fun and safety was his first priority. Highly recommend.

The whole event was great!! Steve was the best driver with loads of information! Michelle Phillips and her award winning dogs provided us the best adventure of all times! We will definitely be following her in the Iditarod race in March!!

This was an amazing tour. We got to see lots of Alaskan sled dogs, including puppies! We rode an ATV that was hooked up to a team, and it was fun to have them run around the track. We stood on the back of the ATV, and it felt like we were actually dog sledding. Panning for "gold" was fun, and we each found 3-4 gold flakes. It would definitely be fun for kids to do. The drive itself was a tour! 1.5 hours from Skagway up into Canada with multiple picture stops up and back. We saw the most beautiful glacier lakes, mountains, and waterfalls. I would do this tour again on a future visit.

Beautiful drive into Canada. Great adventure. The people and the dogs were amazing. Recommended highly.

Our tour guide Chris was awesome 👏
Enjoyed his narration of Alaska & Canada, loved the dogs & puppies
Tiffany_M, Sep 2025
We had the best day ever with Chris as our tour guide. He was funny and informative and stopped at many scenic overlooks for us to take wonderful pictures. Getting to meet the dogs was so exciting and we had a blast going on an ATV ride pulled by them. They are very well loved and cared for and I have a new respect for the whole Iditarod experience.
Biplab_k, Aug 2025
It is knowledgable. Compare to train it is better as because bus driver stops at various places unlike that of trains. Cost wise reasonable.
Heather_H, Aug 2025
Twin toddlers enjoyed this, probably their favorite part of the trip. The loved the ride and petting the puppies. The drive to the camp was beautiful, as well!
Patrick_P, Aug 2025
Our driver was late so it cut back on our picture taking but overall a great trip. You drive up the White Pass (very scenic) to a remote dog sledding camp from a real Iditarod musher. You get to play with the puppies, learn about mushing and take a ride in an atv that is pulled by the dogs. The atv is in gear so its under control and can assist the dogs up hills. Really great trip!
Robin_S, Aug 2025
The guide was very knowledgeable and full of stories. The time with the dogs was good although the ride could have been longer.
Bryan_W, Aug 2025
Tyler was awesome, had great experience. The ride there was enjoyable and he was entertaining. The kids loved the dogs, and the sled dogs were great. Kids even really enjoyed the gold panning! Thanks

Traveled with family - 5 adults, 1 teenager and 2 children (3 and 5).
Our Tour Guide was the BEST! He was very knowledgeable and shared many stories of his experiences. This was an AMAZING Tour!
Thank You!

The tour guide, Tyler, was informative and funny. We got to pet the dogs and cuddle 3 week old puppies. The highlight for my 7 yo was the summer run with the dogs which was very fun. The guide made multiple stops for picture opportunities. We will definitely book Klondike tours again in the future!
Christina_P, Aug 2025
This was an amazing experience! Our driver, Chris, was GREAT! Our specific tour had 5-6 families (most with small children), which can be challenging, but Chris was amazing and very patient. He did his best to get us all the best photo spots. Our toddlers gave him the nickname "Kristoff" from Frozen! We highly recommend this tour if you're looking for a unique experience in Skagway. Thanks again Kristoff :)

This was the highlight of our Alaska trip. I took a chance on this trip, it was priced lower then other dog sledding tours. I didn't have high expectations, but boy was this tour worth it.
For a little context we are a family of 7, with our kids being 2, 5, 8, 11 and 13. All the kids were entertained and enjoyed the entire experience.
We were met at the pier where we disembarked and were bused to another location to meet up with the rest of the group. After that we were driven to the dog sled camp. On the way there we stopped at the Welcome to Alaska sign to take photos. What's nice is since the tour starts at 8AM we were able to beat all the other tour buses to the different sites.
At the dog sled area, we had the whole place to ourselves. Our total tour group was about 20 people including my family. We were able to play with the puppies that were lounging around. Afterwards was the dog sled tour. You get the option of sitting in the car or standing. My family took one entire car with half sitting and other standing. The ride is at least 10 minutes and is amazing. You feel and hear the dogs pulling and barking. There's a path you travel that takes you through woods and water features. All around you is beautiful scenery.
After the dog sled ride you hang out with the puppies a little longer, or you can listen to a professional racer talk about dog sledding. Then you pan for gold. Tyler our guide let us know that he secured dirt from the local area and showed us how to pan. Everyone was able to collect a few flakes of gold that we got to keep.
Afterwards you're driven back to Skagway. On the way back you stop at a few other sights to take pictures. You get to choose whether you want to be dropped off in Skagway or back at the boat.
During the shuttle ride Tyler tells you different stories about the area, which was fantastic.
Overall this is a must do excursion in Skagway.
I've got a short video on youtube that gives the highlights of the tour.
Cheers!

Get ready to get muddy! This is a rustic adventure and the playful pups will jump on you as soon as you arrive. We loved our guide, Tyler, and the entire dog camp experience. The puppies are sweet, though some are shy, and the racing dogs are so impressive (and also very sweet!). We got pulled by a team of roughly 8 dogs through the breathtaking Alaskan landscape. It was very fun one of the best experiences we’ve had.

An excellent trip with a few stops along the way, an excellent guide (Chris) and time at the musher camp was such a good experience! Meeting the dogs and pups and the dog sledding were all highlights, all backed up by breath taking scenery!
Easy to find the tour we had booked from getting off the ship and communication was excellent. I had a question I sent the day before and it was answered in full very promptly!

Thank you for the kind review! We are so happy that you enjoyed the tour and time spent with us in Skagway. Chris will be glad to know that you had a good tour! - Castle

This company never showed up to pick us up from Port. And never reached out to say they wouldn’t be picking us up. My entire family was extremely disappointed. This was a trip of a lifetime for us and we felt really let down.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
We are so very sorry that we disappointed you! I tried to call you but ultimately the problem was on our side. I have fully refunded you for the trip. I feel very sorry that we missed you! - Castle

Just getting to the training camp for the dogs was worth booking this excursion. The scenery was stunning I was a bit disappointed in the actual “dog sledding “ experience which is dogs hooked up to an atv and running in front of it . Not impressed with that . Our tour guide was excellent and quite knowledgeable.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
We appreciate the feedback. I'll pass it on to the dog musher camp. - Castle
Kylie_H, Aug 2025

Tyler was great at driving and telling stories. All the stops were very good. The dog sled camp and puppies was of course the best part but everything was great!
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Tyler will be glad that you had a great time! We'll let dog camp know as well. Thank you for the kind review! - Castle
