Your day trip starts with pickup from your Rome hotel by private vehicle for the scenic drive out of the city and into Umbria, a region known for its hills and medieval villages like Orte and Deruta.
When you arrive in Assisi, a World Heritage site, follow your private guide on a walking tour of this tranquil town, listening to commentary about the local churches and other attractions that are connected to St Francis of Assisi, Italy’s patron saint, who was from here. See the site where it’s believed he was born and where he spent his early childhood, and visit the Church of Santa Chiara.
Soak up the charm of the Piazza del Commune, the town square dominated by Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, a 13th-century palace, and check out more landmarks like the Roman Temple of Minerva and Basilica di San Francesco, whose interior is decorated with frescoes that depict scenes from St Francis’ life.
Take a break to enjoy lunch (own expense), and then round out your tour with a visit to the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli, a pilgrimage site outside the city. You’ll view the Porziuncola chapel, which St Francis restored, and see the site where he died. Your tour then ends with the drive back to Rome for hotel drop-off.

Visiting Assisi in general was very enjoyable. We knew that each of the sites represents will tell a special moment in history for catholic in christian faith. Being there was a blessing!!
In addition, Fabio, our tour guide, was exceptional! He was very knowledgeable of the region of Umbria. As we were passing through the various towns, he was sure to explain the details about each one of them.
Most of all, Fabio was very accomodated and sensitive person, especially with our nephew who is handicapped. Finally, having lunch at the restaurant that Fabio recommended was unforgettable! Truly Italian pasta, lamb, and more. Thank you Fabio!

Our day trip to Assisi was one of the highlights of our trip to Italy. We enjoyed the drive through the beautiful countryside in Umbria. Assisi was more amazing than we could have imagined, a stunning city on a hill with so much religious significance. Our driver, Ricardo, was excellent. He first drove us to the Basilica of St. Mary of the Angels because it was a few miles outside of Assisi. Ricardo then dropped us off in the middle of town and gave us very good directions on how to access the other three basilicas and where and what time to meet him for our return to Rome. We had plenty of time to visit the three basilicas, eat lunch, shop and take in spectacular views. Ricardo even kept in touch with us to make sure things were going well. On the return trip, Ricardo stopped at a perfect spot for photos. It was a perfect day!

Assisi is beautiful, the churches are awe inspiring. It was wonderful to get out of Rome and away from the rest of the tourists to have a peaceful pilgrimage to these very venerable sites. The weather was chilly, but it was a beautiful day. Our driver Fabio was great to chat with and provided us information about all the locations we visited. Such a beautiful time, we would love to do it again some day.

Very disappointing. I was on a Viator day trip in to Assissi Spring 2014 that was great. I assumed we were signing up for the same trip in 2015. Not even close! The driver was very nice but knew very little about Assissi. The elevator from a parking area to the top of the town....shopping, eating in Assissi, St Francis's birth place, etc. it was as if we were not even in the place as the year before. Why did this happen?
