My family and I had a great time. The staff was so helpful and we all managed to ride some waves and make some great memories! I would highly recommend this excursion. I would not recommend buying pictures. They were very pricey at $40 per person and you only get a couple of pictures.

I suggest that you tell the instructor if you have any nervousness or fears before you wade into the wild waves of Waikiki. if I had done that on behalf of my grandson, he probably would have been given more attention and might have ended up having a better experience. Be sure you understand what is going to happen next and don't be afraid to ask questions and have more practice time on shore. One of the two participants for whom I paid, was given loads of attention and she had a fabulous time. My grand daughter is thrilled and I am delighted for her. The other party was not as fortunate. Even though he is a very good swimmer, he became caught up in the waves, fell off the board, started to tumble about and became very frightened. He was not near his sister or the instructor and he became panicked. Eventually help came and he made it back to shore. For him the experience was traumatic and horrible. The instructor showed compassion for him, and I am grateful for the partial refund that was extended.

It was our first time ever surfing and somehow these guys made us look like we actually knew what we were doing (spoiler: we didn’t). Shane, Captain Neil, and Darren — you’re not just instructors, you’re straight-up surfing wizards. They had us standing up on the boards, laughing like kids, and feeling like absolute pros — even if we’ll probably be walking like cowboys tomorrow from all the paddling. Not only are they hilarious and chill, they’re incredibly skilled and made us feel safe, confident, and like part of the ‘ohana (that’s Hawaiian for family — yes, we’re locals now). We loved every salty, splashy, sun-kissed minute and can’t wait to come back and ride the waves again with our Hawaiian bros. Mahalo for the memories!

My family and I were really disappointed with the experience. The lesson felt rushed, with very little time spent on teaching foundational skills. We were on the shore practicing for maybe five minutes before being told to paddle out into the ocean to catch waves—despite most of us not even having a chance to stand up on the board yet. There was minimal instruction on how to actually catch waves, and it felt like we were just thrown into it without proper guidance. To make matters worse, my brother got seasick during the lesson. Instead of assisting him back to shore, the instructors just told him to paddle himself back—a 15-minute distance, which is extremely difficult when you’re nauseous and actively throwing up.

The instructors are very invested in making sure you have fun! Everyone in our group caught some waves including inexperienced swimmer like me (they provided me a life vest which helped a lot). The instructors are very friendly and easy to talk to, I really enjoyed learning surf from them. They also took us on a snorkeling adventure which was absolutely amazing. We saw some turtles and different kinds of fish. It was a very memorable experience indeed. Highly recommend this experience!

Learn to surf from some pros

This was a great way to try out surfing! You get out on the water right away but get to practice first in a sheltered area where the waves don't come in. This gives you a good way to practice standing up on the board. After that you head out to where the waves are. Shane and Neal really want to make sure you have a great time. They will help you catch as many waves as you can before you get too tired. If you are a fast learner, they will let you try some more advanced stuff like catching your own waves. I had a great time and got some good surfing advice from them. The water where you are at can be on the shallower side and bumpy, especially if you are able to ride the wave in. I recommend wearing a rashguard and reef shoes. If you don't have reef shoes, they may have some in your size that you can borrow.

Great experience with Noel, Tom and Chris. Only downfall was we booked a 2 hour lesson and were only given 1 hour. They seemed to think that was all the time we had so I didn’t say anything but maybe this site needs to be updated to list the time as 1 hour? In the end we got a great lesson just wish we had gotten the time we had paid for, per the Viator site

Shane and Captain Neil are amazing. They had us standing pretty much immediately and we had a blast with them. Will remember my first time surfing looking at the building rainbows and the real rainbows for the rest of my life. Wouldn’t have been as great without these two instructors. 10/10 recommend
