Your Oahu shark dive begins at Haleiwa boat harbor on the island’s famous North Shore, where you motor out to the open ocean offshore. While cruising out to the shark diving area, there’s a chance you could see dolphins, sea turtles, surfers or even humpback whales in winter, and the view looking back at Oahu’s shoreline is worth the trip in itself.
Since safety is one of the top priorities for the Oahu shark diving crew, receive a briefing on safe practices and how to act in the cage. Then, when it’s time to finally go looking for sharks, strap on your masks, step in the cage, and your shark watching adventure begins when you’re lowered in the water.
Out here in the open ocean away from the runoff and waves, visibility can often extend to as much as 200 feet (60m). When you first catch sight of a graceful shark swimming slowly but purposefully towards you, there’s a sudden and potent rush of adrenaline you simply can’t contain. Before you can even be scared, however, the sharks have swum to within inches of the cage and are circling in front of your face.
In the waters around Oahu, the most commonly sighted sharks you might find are Galapagos, Hammerhead, and Sandbar sharks, which range from 5-15 feet (1.5-4.5m) dependent upon their age. For travelers wanting to dive as a group, the cage can comfortably hold two adult divers and up to eight at a time—though it depends on current weather conditions and the amount of movement in the water.
And, if you simply don’t want to dive in the cage but are hoping to see some sharks, there’s still plenty of thrilling action you can experience while viewing from the deck of the boat.

The captain and the gentlemen supporting the excursion were awesome. Very educational, funny and professional. I got really sea sick however it was still a trilling experience and I would give a 10 star if I could. I appreciate the experience and I would recommend more people to try it!! The environment was safe and the instructions were extremely clear. So for the folks that left reviews around travel, getting sea sick ,expectations, etc… if you do your research and follow the rules you will have a great experience. The second time I use them to go shark diving and it’s super cool seeing them swim all close to you. I would 100% recommend to anyone and it’s not as scary as you’d think , well maybe a little.

Both the captain (female) and her shop mate (male) were so friendly and professional. It was a truly extraordinary experience, and it was just a positive environment. We went out for about 3 miles and saw the most amazing creatures. The cage was a bit rough and it will shake you but this was definitely worth it! North shore is the best side of Oahu!

This crew was awesome! They made you feel so welcome and if at any point you needed anything, they were there to help. Absolutely LOVED seeing all of the sharks! So cool. It’s even a great experience for those who don’t want to get in the cage so fun for everyone. Passing along the tip from the crew, check the weather before booking. More specifically the wind - high winds can make the water slightly less calm but overall you should book this experience.

The water was too choppy to really enjoy the snorkeling part in the cage. There were plenty of sharks to see but having the worst motion sickness ever, kind of put a damper on everything. I felt like we were in the water for a decent amount of time. It does suck that this was our second time doing it and both times the water was severely choppy. Its fun if you dont get motion sickness.

Not just getting close to sharks, we also rode a bucking bronco (ok, it was a 30 ft boat, but what a wild ride!). Be absolutely sure to bring along some Nausea chewables, as even the tough guy eventually asked for a couple of them.

What an adventure! The crew are patient and efficient and very kind. Tip: the water is a little rough so I heeded previous advice and came prepared. The sharks come right up to the cage. So exhilarating. It is better with a smaller group for sure but we recommend this adventure!

I’m terrified of sharks, in an awe struck respectful way. I’m that person who thinks that if you stick your big toe in the ocean it’s going to get bit off. However, after reading the reviews and seeing kids go in, I decided I was doing it and I am so glad I did! It was incredible to see them in their natural habitat from the safety of our cage. The crew was incredible, nice, funny, and most important experienced. The whole trip from start to finish was superb and a must do!

Do it! It was an amazing experience. We felt completely safe the entire time. Somewhat choppy since you’re somewhat far out, I’d highly recommend taking or wearing something for nausea if you get sea sick. I would 100% do this again.

We had a great time! The guides were great and helpful, and we saw lots of sharks. Take Dramamine because the waves are no joke, but it’s definitely worth it. It felt very safe too. I highly recommend going. Be sure to bring a waterproof pouch for your phone so you can take videos underwater.
