Such a great experience. We went with our 2 kids aged 11 and 8. They loved it too! We were picked up at our resort. Everyone slept most of the way up there until we got close. It was beautiful. Then we had a delicious breakfast and got to walk around the Maui tropical plantation.

Itinerary

Start your day in Maui with a breathtaking sunrise view of the island from atop its highest peak on this daybreak excursion to Mount Haleakala. This exceptional sunrise experience is sure to be a highlight of your trip to Maui.

Start your trip in the dark of the very early morning with a pickup at your Maui hotel. You’ll then continue by air-conditioned minibus on a scenic drive passing the Kula District. and Maui’s rare silversword plants.

Arriving at the Haleakala National Park, steadily climb by minibus up Haleakala to 9,740 feet (2,969 meter) elevation to the Visitor Center. You’ll see Maui’s rare and endemic silversword plants that poignantly bloom once, then perish. You’ll also witness the sunrise from the Visitor Center area. The views from Haleakala are nothing short of spectacular. At the end of your morning sunrise experience you’ll head to breakfast at a local restaurant and then receive a drop-off back at your Maui hotel, tired but thrilled by your amazing morning trip.

Windy, wet, wild and worth it!

Ashley_D, Jul 2026
Wonderful service that facilitated a very unique and memorable experience! We were picked up exactly on time at our hotel and then driven to Haleakalā. Alfredo was kind, accommodating, knowledgeable, and funny. When we arrived at the top, there was heavy mist and 30 mile an hour winds (gusts likely to 40). Although we packed heavy layers, beanies, and gloves, we were absolutely soaking wet and cold for the 60+ minutes waiting for sunrise. It was uncomfortable but we were committed. When the sun finally broke through the clouds, the wind died down and the ran stopped. Our viewpoint was perfect and photos amazing. It was worth the minor suffering for the pictures and memories! In addition to several layers, warm hats and gloves, I HIGHLY recommend packing ponchos or a heavy duty raincoat AND a dry set of clothes to change into afterward. That would have made it more comfortable for sure. The breakfast was delicious and very welcome after being so cold and wet. I highly recommend this experience and service. I suggest the company provide ponchos as part of the admission. Aloha and Mahalo!

Our tour guide was very informative and thorough. We learned a lot about the island and enjoyed our experience. Thank you! My only suggestion is to get the summit earlier so that we could’ve had a better spot to see the crater and sunrise.

Best sunrise trip ever at Mauii! 💯recommended

Poor experience with driver

Poulomi_M, Jul 2026
The tour itself is good and we got to see a gorgeous clear sunrise which is kind of rare. However our driver and guide Preston kind of dampened the overall experience. He was very sarcastic and patronising and kept on telling stories of other client groups he has managed and how dumb they are. He spoke too much about himself and given it was a 2am tour, he didn’t give any break to doze on the way back. Also, he stalled us at the summit for over an hour and admitted that he was stalling to ensure traffic clears which resulted in us not sleeping, reaching breakfast point late and hungry. In these kind of tours, a bit of background helps but time should be given to enjoy on our own or just sleep if need be.

Aloha Poulomi - Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're glad you were able to experience a beautiful Haleakalā sunrise. We're sorry your overall experience didn't meet your expectations. We appreciate your comments and will share them with our operations team as we continually work to improve the experience we provide our guests. Mahalo, Polynesian Adventure

Not a good experience

anish_g, Jul 2026
Uncomfortable bus, very long journey unwanted and it could have been easily shortened. Example , seating 30 mins in bus while serving coffee or hot chocolate to every individual. No break or rest and constant listening for 7 hours straight up on history about maui and haalkela..it was 2am. All we need is sleep.. breakfast food was terrible..just a bad experience..this tour can be easily shortened to 7 hours instead of having it for 9 hours.

Response from Host, Jul 2026

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're sorry to hear the tour wasn't an enjoyable experience for you. We appreciate you sharing your thoughts, as guest feedback helps us continue to evaluate and improve our tours. Thank you for choosing to visit Haleakalā with us. Mahalo!

Easy but delayed pick up....

Yinia_Y, Jul 2026
Easy but delayed pick up. The bus ride was cold. But the views were amazing and worth it. I would recommend this experience.

Awesome trip!

Stella_H, Jul 2026
Super great trip! Our tour guide Alfredo was awesome! A few things to note: 1) We thought there would be some hiking involved, but they actually drive you right to the viewing area 2) It's super windy / cold up there! It was 62 degrees but felt like 30 with the wind. Definitely wear layers! If you didn't pack warm stuff for Hawaii, you can do what we did, which was pick up sweatpants and a warm layer workout top at Target. 3) The drive up is windy and through high altitude. We were fine but I think if you are prone to car sickness, you might want to skip this. 4) Bring cash to tip the driver tour guide!

Most amazing trip!

Preston was amazing!!! Hands down one of the best tour guides! Super funny, thoughtful and went out of his way to make us all have an amazing time :)

Well Taken Care Of

Kate_H, Jun 2026
Everything was very well taken care of from the moment we were picked up to the moment we were dropped off.

Once in a lifetime experience!

Emilie_G, Jun 2026
Once I a lifetime experience! Our driver Preston was really cool. It really is very cold up there so I wish I would have brought gloves in addition to my sweatshirt. I could have skipped the breakfast part at the end and saved my money as the food was just ok.

Haleakala Sunrise Spectacular with Local Breakfast

srlownes, Jun 2026
Excellent tour with Wayne. Sunrise was spectacular and Wayne is very informative with Maui. We learned a lot and would recommend the tour Breakfast was excellent too. Wear or bring warm clothes as it is early in the morning and your elevation is 9000+

A must for Maui!

Laura_H, Jun 2026
We were one of the rare tours where the visibility was low and we could not see anything. I could not even be disappointed because of how much information Preston shared that you could not find anywhere else. It was so enlightening and such a great experience. If I ever go to Maui again I will definitely give this another try and ask for Preston!

Beautiful sunrise tour in Maui.

Helen_N, Jun 2026
What a great experience! To see the beautiful sunrise over the crater is amazing. I know we were fortunate to have such a clear day. Additionally, we got to enjoy the natural beauty of the park and the Kula area during our drive down. Spectacular. Breakfast was in a beautiful garden and we had lots of time to explore. The company was great to work with - lots of clear communication before the tour. It was also a very comfortable vehicle. Finally, I can’t say enough about our wonderful guide, Wayne. He was very knowledgeable and kept us well-informed about timing and what to expect. He was the perfect guide!

Sunrise - recommend

Lucy_K, Jun 2026
Wayne was super knowledgeable. Although it was so early we kept falling asleep on the drive. Between the 4 of us we got the full Wayne tour. Beautiful and recommend the sunrise!

Cancel your trip if raining. We spent a lot of money and it was pouring rain the whole time and zero visibility. Not viator fault at all but so disappointing after spending so much money on the trip

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We understand how disappointing it is when weather impacts visibility, especially for a highly anticipated sunrise experience. We appreciate you sharing your experience. Mahalo.

Unreliable

Alfred_S, Jun 2026
"Due to driver illness, the original tour date was rescheduled from May 29th to June 2nd." On confirmed pickup time and place driver did not show up – no response from Operator up to 10 hours later.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely regret the disruption to your plans and understand how frustrating it was to experience both a reschedule and a missed pickup. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and will share your comments with our team. Mahalo.

Poor overall experience

Srinivas_R, May 2026
Driver was too loud and talked way too much even at 2:30 AM after pickup(non stop). He took us just couple minds before sunrise and didn’t leave us much time to see the sunrise.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re sorry to hear the tour did not meet your expectations. We understand that guide commentary and timing preferences can vary, and we regret that you felt rushed upon arrival for sunrise. We appreciate your comments and will share them with our team. Mahalo.

Dissappointed

Michelle_S, May 2026
Got a call 4 hours before our 2:40 pick up time - cancelled our tour because of vehicle issues? Then received the text that’s said driver was illl. We ended up saving $500 and doing the sunset tour ourselves with guide along app

Response from Host, May 2026

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience caused by the cancellation of your tour. We understand how frustrating it can be when travel plans are unexpectedly disrupted. Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. Mahalo.

Sunrise spectacular!

Bruce_V, May 2026
Getting up at 1:35 AM was difficult but the sunrise at the crater experience was worth it. The breakfast could have been a little bit more hardy, but it was good.

Best Tour Guide ever!

ndinz, May 2026
“Al Pachino” Alfredo was wonderful! He knew so much about the island’s history, and about Haleakalā. His chanting as the sun came thru the clouds was etherial. Such a magical experience. When my husband got ill because of motion sickness, Al did jot bat an eye and was very compassionate and helpful. He even offered ginger chews to everyone to help ease their nausea. Alfredo was the best guide we could have asked for!!

dress warm, and bring a blanket. The breakfast was great, and we had plenty of food. Guide did a nice job of narrating.

Beautiful

Kelly_E, May 2026
Very comfortable and relaxing trip to see a beautiful sunrise! Alfredo was funny and knowledgeable and got us the best spot to view the sunrise. It was definitely cold- dress warmer than you thought- I wish I had brought gloves. There is a restroom there too. Thank you Alfredo/Al Pacino!

Concentrated Awesomeness

Daniel_P, May 2026
This is a must do experience. Probably one of the coolest things I've seen in my life. Al was an exceptional tour guide and really brought the experience to life. Pictures don't do the experience justice.

Haleakalā Sunrise with Preston

Jo_C, May 2026
The serenity and reverence from everyone in attendance was palpable. When the Oli chat began - welcoming the day and being grateful for the day, it was awe inspiring. Our tour guide Preston was so knowledgeable and very entertaining. He really made the tour more special with all the factoids about the areas we were visiting. Highly recommend this tour!

Go enjoy a beautiful sunrise with Preston!

Kelly_M, Apr 2026
If you’re considering doing a sunrise at Haleakalā National Park—do it! And if you’re lucky enough to get Preston as your guide, even better. Total time is around 8 hours (2:30-10:30am) at a cost of approx. $250 per person when booked through Viator. Our day started… not ideally. Our alarm didn’t go off, and we completely missed our confirmed pick-up time. About 10 minutes later, Preston called asking where we were. Mortified, we asked for just five minutes to throw ourselves together—and to our surprise, about 10 minutes later, he was back outside our hotel, calm and incredibly understanding. While I wouldn’t count on this kind of flexibility as the norm, it genuinely set the tone for the entire experience. From there, everything ran smoothly. There were only 10 guests total on a comfortable, air-conditioned bus, and most people caught some extra sleep on the drive up the mountain. Preston struck the perfect balance with his commentary—interesting and informative without being overwhelming—and gave helpful tips on how to best experience the sunrise. We arrived about 30 minutes early, which gave us time to get situated. Be warned: it was 43°F in April—pants, a heavy jacket, and even gloves are absolutely worth bringing. The sunrise itself was stunning, and we had plenty of time afterward to take photos before heading back. On the drive down, Preston took his time, sharing more local insights and fun facts about the island. The tour wrapped up at the beautiful Maui Tropical Plantation, where breakfast was served at Cafe O’Lei. Guests could choose from fruit, a continental-style option, or macadamia nut pancakes—all delicious. There was also a charming country store onsite with local produce, coffee, and artisan goods. After breakfast, we were dropped back off at our hotel—tired, but so glad we didn’t miss out on this experience. Bottom line: Incredible views, a well-paced itinerary, and a guide who went above and beyond. We highly recommend!

Early birds delight!

Don_H, Apr 2026
This is a wonderful outing, and our guide Preston was very knowledgeable and passionate about Maui! The viewing and breakfast were great. Beautiful grounds for the breakfast. Just be prepared by dressing warm in layers and the fact it's a long morning, starting about 2 AM!

Not to be missed

Jack_K, Apr 2026
It's a long day, so would recommend doing it early in the trip. Preston is amazing at explaining the history and context to what we saw (at the summit and along the way). The views were spectacular and not to be missed (with the right weather conditions ofc). Definitely don’t skip breakfast.
