We met Matt and Eric in front of a closed, flooded Target on 3/23/26. Maui had been hammered by rain for two weeks with more expected during our ride. We soon found out that all the other riders had canceled and it would just be me and my wife! Offered the option to cancel, we immediately declined. Matt agreed to take us and continue as long as the roads remained safe.
The four of us chatted during the ride up Haleakala to our starting point. We are experienced cyclists but Matt gave us a safety briefing anyway. Rain gear was also provided (and greatly appreciated). The bikes were solid Trek Marlins and we were also provided with MIPS helmets with flip up visors, a very nice touch! Matt definitely knows what he’s doing and I could tell he knows how to manage a group ride!
The first part of the ride was great with only a misty rain and lightly wet roads. The segment was made up of some gentle turns and rolling road sections with a nice short hill climb toward the end to make sure you’re paying attention! We stuck mostly to the shoulder and inside lane for this part. After a quick break, it was time for some downhill fun!
Eric followed in the chase car, staying in touch with Matt by radio. We rode center lane, cruising through many downhill switchbacks. The rain was increasing but Matt managed the pace very well, keeping us safe at all times.
We then hopped in the car, were treated to delicious homemade coconut muffins, and made our way to Makawao. We were offered the opportunity to spend a bit of time in town but the rain was coming down hard and we wanted to keep riding. Matt agreed to continue as long as the roads remained safe.
Again, we set out riding the shoulder / inside lane for a mile or so, after which we moved to center with Eric blocking from behind. If you’ve never bombed Maui in a hard rain, you don’t know what you’re missing! We finished this longest segment in Paia, cruising through more downhill switchbacks and ending completely drenched with huge smiles on our faces!
The ride back to town wouldn’t have been complete without more amazing homemade treats, this time Passionfruit Bars!
My wife and I will definitely ride with Matt again next time we’re in Maui! Maybe the sun will even come out and we’ll actually be able to see the far off landmarks Matt pointed out along the ride!

What a great tour! Our guides Alex and Eric were outstanding. They provided a fun and safe bike ride. We enjoyed the personal attention, as well as the lunch stop in town. We also appreciated the video footage. A great experience overall and an awesome way to spend a morning in Maui.

BEST bike company on the island! Matt is absolutely awesome and has perfected the business! This was my third time biking down the volcano and I would definitely recommend Maui bombers, 100%!! Matt surprised us with homemade toasted coconut muffins in the morning, snacks, water, Gatorade! He was super excited about the ride, got everybody pumped up! Absolutely beautiful day riding down the volcano. Stopped for a DELICIOUS lunch! And then finish the day down close to the water! His bikes were top notch!! He even adjusted the brake placement on the handle bars for me a miles or so into the ride because my wrist was killing me. That extra customer service completely change the entire ride for me! I don’t know if I would’ve been able to make it down if he wouldn’t have done that. Thank you so much Maui Bombers!!

Great trip! Maui Bombers we’re the perfect guides. Equipment was in great shape. Lunch in Makewao was excellent.

What a great experience! Team was super friendly. The bikes were awesome. The views were awe inspiring. Great lunch!

Matt was a great host. Biking was incredible. The entire team (Matt, Erik, Spartak) did a great job. We had so much fun. Matt uses bike helmets, primarily because we were BIKING, while many companies used motorcycle helmets that looked much more restrictive.

Matt and staff were the BEST. We had a great time biking downhill, stooping for lunch and shopping in Makawao, and then riding to finish at the beach. The bikes were good, the lunch was tasty and we had an all around great time. The small group size was also really great.

Absolutely breathtaking views and overall wonderful experience!!! Highly recommend for those wanting to experience Hawaii in a truly unique way!!!

Matt and his crew made this a really fun experience. The tour itself is naturally awesome, but the energy and fun Matt brings took it to the next level. It was fun seeing the envy in the eyes of the other groups as we were bombing down the hills having a great time. In addition to the fun, the equipment seemed to be far superior to the other groups we saw. If you are going to take a tour riding bikes down the mountain, I would definitely choose this one!

A highlight of our trip. So much fun! We can’t wait to come back and do it again. Gear was great - lunch was amazing! I was nervous to start but felt comfortable after the first couple of turns. We all had a blast!
Matt thought of everything to make this experience fun and memorable!

I never expected riding 24 miles would be this Adventurous, 🤩 Fun, and surprisingly not hard at all (down Mount Haleakala) I I’m so glad we did this, it is easily one of the top experiences we had while in Maui! Thanks again to the guys in charge! And I want to say thank you to Matts daughter who made or muffins! They were delicious 😋

Biking down Haleakala was loads of fun. We saw different parts of Maui, fulfilled our need for speed on our bikes. Matt & Spartac kept us safe: Matt led and Spartac followed in the van. They managed all the details, such as providing snacks, lunch and photography. We loved the video of our bike ride that Matt created. Thank you Cycle to the Sea!

Without exaggeration the best excursion my family and I have ever been a part of. The two tour guides were awesome they knew the area incredibly well so knew where to stop and show the kids the sheep, goats, peacocks and pigs (my daughters favorite). They recorded with both their camera and a drone that did flybys. They stopped at a valley and had us all yell to experience the incredible echo of the canyon crazy cool. There were other tours unguided for less by we would have missed so much. They stopped in town and bought the group lunch (not your cheap lunch either), which was fantastic and unexpected. One of the tour guides made banana muffins which were out of this world. We go to maui every year and this is the first year the kids were old enough to do this, we will do the exact same tour next year.

These guys have it right. Nice bicycles (Trek bikes - cross between a mountain bike and urban bike) and regular bike helmets. System is genius. Matt rode with us and Erik follows in a van, directing us to move to side of road if traffic is coming. We left at 8am and saw maybe 4-5 cars in the total 30 mile ride. Almost all downhill!! Matt took us at our pace (experienced riders) and we topped out at 42 mph - awesome. He will go at your pace. They film the ride with either a phone or drone footage then send it to you - that’s a nice feature I didn’t even know about. Matt and Erik were both great. When you get most of the way down, you stop for lunch at a neat little place in a small town - no boxes lunch here!! I can’t recommend this enough!!! 5 stars+!!

It was a great day on a bike. Matt did a great job and the lunch at the cafe was nice. The views were fabulous on the clear day.

The later start time was perfect for reducing traffic on our ride down. Our family of four were the only people in the group and we felt like we had the mountain to ourselves. Matt and Eric have every detail figured out made this a very fun, stress free adventure. the more adventurous half of our group was able to go VERY fast down the mountain while the other two could just cruise down and enjoy the views.
The Makawao cafe took our lunch orders ahead of time opened just for us on Sunday.
If you just want the fun bike ride and skip the overrated Volcano sunrise , pick this tour!
