Pickup details

The times listed on our tours are the pickup and drop-off times. To ensure guests can arrive on time for their tour we require a 45 minute window between a ship's arrival time and a tour's pickup time. Likewise, we require 45 minutes between the drop-off time and the ship's departure to make sure guests will be back before their all-aboard time. If you are arriving on a ship or staying at a hotel in downtown Juneau, you will meet outside, under the cables of the Goldbelt Mt. Roberts Tram (490 S Franklin St) at your pick-up time. Find a Coastal Representative dressed in bright orange holding a yellow sign that reads 'Coastal Helicopters' to be checked in. If you are staying at a hotel near the airport, you will be met by a Coastal Representative outside the main doors of the lobby. For guests who dock at AJ dock, you can call to request pickup at your dock - this will be scheduled automatically for the first tour after a ship's arrival. We will be contacting you regarding your pick-up details.

This is a MUST!

I know this activity is not cheap but it is worth every penny! Do not pass up this once in a lifetime activity! The helicopter ride was absolutely beautiful and the dog sledding experience was fantastic! Both Coastal Helicopters and The AK Dog Sledding company was very personable and professional! Hubby and I and our teenaged kids had a BLAST!

this was a fantastic trip. The helicoptor ride to and from the glacier was wonderful to see the scenery so clearly. I'm not used to walking in snow especially thick soft 4" snow and took a nose dive which only brought me up laughing since it was so soft. The dogs are great to watch and I would have liked to have pet them more but couldn't walk well. Wonderful trip.

Stunning

The helicopter ride, the glacier and the dog sledding all of the above was simply amazing. I will hold this memory forever.

Bucket List - Check

We had an awesome adventure from the helicopter ride to the dogsledding to the glaciers. Adrian was our dogsled master and he was fantastic. He told us about the dogs, where they come from, their background. The helicopter ride over the glaciers and then onto the glacier was mind blowing. We were a party of four and would totally recommend this experience.

Magical

We had a skilled pilot who narrated about the Herbert glacier and area, we landed at the Alaskan Icefield Expeditions area where Acacia Hammel was our guide on a dog sled ride....what an awesome experience....on the flight back we landed on another glacier and got to walk around....took some amazing pictures...definitely a highlight of our trip!!

Dog sledding

Great time dog sledding. Enjoyed the ride and petting the puppies afterwards. Beautiful ride to the glacier in the helicopter. You do need warm clothes. I wore my down coat, beanie, and thick gloves. They give you shoes to wear over your shoes, so no need to buy waterproof shoes.

What a thrill !!

LittleRockStar, Jun 2019
Very professional team, picked us up from port promptly and drove us to the airport to board helicopter. We were fit with snow boots and windbreaker/coat so no need to pack those. Uggs style are just fine. Scenery was spectacular, totally worth the trip. Only concern is that a couple of mushers seemed overworked and tired and their bodies were overcompensating for the lack of strength. Please make sure they’re well taken care of.

If this is not on your bucket list, it needs to be. Unbelievable experience. The 12 dogs that did the work and the guide that provided us the great details of the Herbert Glacier and the dogs background was fantastic. They even had puppies that were born on the glacier for us to experience. Bring your camera, goPro, and your smile as you wont leave disappointed and you can tell people that this is one experience everyone needs to do when in Alaska. The helicopter ride was full of anticipation and excitement as we knew the flight plan was over the glacier, both ways! This too was a bucket list item, fly over a glacier in a helicopter. On the way to the helipad, had two Bald Eagles fly in front off and below the chopper, one had a fish with the other in chase. This added to the Alaska experience.

If you don't do anything else on...

If you don't do anything else on your Alaskan tour this is a must. The memories from this tour will be with us forever. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather so our very experienced helicopter pilot from Coastal Helicopters could fly us over the mountains to the snow field for dog sledding. The dog sledding was amazing as we were taken around a 2 mile circuit with stops for the dogs to rest. After that we were flown onto the Mendenhall Glacier for a walk. I cannot find a word good enough to describe this. If there were 10 stars for tours, this tour would get 10 from us. Thanks for the memories and giving us the most unbelievable day of our lives.

The trip was great, friendly hosts and the dogs were great to boot! The weather is always hit or miss in AK but even on a cloudy day it was the highlight of our Alaskan cruise. Highly recommend!

Oh my gosh. What a thrilling experience. Very professional. From the pick up at your cruise boat. The van was clean and well maintained. The pre-flight instructions and safety video was informitave. They provided all you warm gear boots. Not some cheap equipment. The helicopter pilot was very professional made flying look so easy. Pointing out points of interest. Once we arrived at the dogsled camp the adventure just begins!!!!! We were a group of 3. And we all had a turn to lead mush. So much fun.... A must do....

Reinhard M, Jul 2014
The tour was ok. The helicopter ride was pretty short and not worth the money, partly because of the bad weather (it was windy and raining all the time), but also because of too many people being accommodated that day. I would do it again, but the cost is high and it needs to be nice weather.
