An Unforgettable Adventure with Coastal Helicopters – A Must-Do in Juneau! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
If you're considering a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Juneau, look no further than the Helicopter and Dogsledding Excursion to Herbert Glacier with Coastal Helicopters – it was absolutely incredible from start to finish!
From the moment we lifted off, the views from the helicopter were breathtaking – soaring over icefields and rugged Alaskan terrain was simply magical. But the highlight was landing right on Herbert Glacier at the dogsled camp. The setting was surreal – pure white snow, crisp mountain air, and the most enthusiastic team of sled dogs and handlers you could ever meet.
We were warmly greeted at the glacier by our musher, Sam, who was phenomenal! She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the whole experience even more special. She shared her expertise about the dogs and the sport, and took amazing photos and videos for us – memories we’ll treasure forever.
To top off an already magical day, I had the absolute honor of being in the sled with Jared, Nicole, and their son Landon when Jared proposed right there on the glacier – and Nicole said YES! Witnessing that joyful moment surrounded by snow, sunshine, and cheering dogs was unforgettable and brought happy tears to everyone’s eyes.
The dogs were incredibly friendly and clearly loved what they do, and the entire staff made us feel welcomed and safe throughout the tour. The whole experience was exceptionally well organized and smoothly run – we couldn’t have asked for more.
If you're anywhere near Juneau, do not miss this excursion – it’s worth every penny and more. It’s not just a tour; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure full of wonder, joy, and unforgettable memories.
Thank you to Coastal Helicopters, Sam, and the amazing dog team for giving us one of the most memorable days of our lives!

We had a great time, smooth trip, the dogs and mushers were great. Exactly as expected and what we wanted to see in Alaska!

Most amazing experience but think a bit too much for 1 year olds . Only thing I was disappointed with is maybe having really puppies there for kids to cuddle . My 3 year old really was thinking this was part of trip . Dog sledding was a bit short .

Very organised you meet 300yds from cruise port. Helicopter ride was great the views and scenery amazing. The dog sleigh ride was highlight for the hubby on it about 40mins. An incredible experience a must to do in Juneau !!

Every part of this excursion was a delight! Friendly staff worked well together. I felt safe in the helicopter and the dogs were wonderful! I think this morning will be the highlight of our whole Alaska adventure.

They cancelled on us about 30 minutes before our excursion time without any alternative options to reschedule.
We had to pivot and instead booked a sea plane with another company and went jet skiing

Experience of a lifetime! Friends assured me I could do it. So glad we did! I've had a hip replacement and still have arthritis in bothe knees and shoulders. Daughter-in-law did help steady me trudging across the snow... but it was an exhilarating experience 🤩

I know that value is a thing that every individual sees differently but for us, it wasn’t worth the price tag at all. We paid $800 per person for a 10 minute helicopter ride and a 5 minute dogsled. If you absolutely love dogs you can spend 10-15 minutes there petting them but otherwise the 5 minute sledding is all you got. It is an amazing setup that they have there, with flying the dogs by helicopter, setting up camp and living there with no water and power. The dogs do seem very well treated but in my opinion (and again, I know that each of us sees it differently) I would not pay over $300/person, $500 if you absolutely love dogs.
In the end we got some rain and they didn’t have a covered place where we could stay. My kid didn’t have a waterproof jacket, only water resistant and she got wet in the cold. I did ask if there was a spot she could stand but was only told that the rain was gonna pass soon.
Would I recommend the tour? For the right price, yeah. For $800? Never.

We absolutely loved the Helicopter to Dog-Sledding experience. The reps at the airport were friendly and helpful as they sized us for our boots. We locked away our valuables and headed to the helicopter. The ride was smooth with the most beautiful scenery. Once we landed, we learned about the dog camp and headed to meet our musher, Brenna. She was so good with the dog team and the dogs listened and followed her instruction. The dog sled ride was about a 1 mile loop. It was so much fun. The dogs were friendly and lovable allowing us to pet them. This experience is a must do!

This was to be a highlight of our vacation, but the trip got canceled because of the weather. Not their fault but very disappointing. Waiting for my refund since they cancelled the trip

It was so cool - such an amazing experience to have with my family! The crew was so good beginning to end and made it so special for us!

Full disclosure: our tour was cancelled due to bad weather so I’m basing my review on that. Obviously, these guys don’t control the weather, so we certainly don’t blame them, but we were definitely bummed to have missed out on what looked like such a fun experience. We’ve learned quickly that the weather in Alaska is a bit chaotic and each region basically makes up its own rules with Mother Nature. The operators were up front and communicated the cancellation early enough that we were able to find a different tour. The refund was initiated as soon as we were alerted of the cancellation due to weather. If I’m ever in Juneau in the future, I’ll definitely give it another shot!
Katherine_W, May 2026
The tour was canceled due to weather so the rating is not reflective of the actual tour. However we would try it again maybe a little later, perhaps in June
Teresa_H, May 2026
Once in a lifetime experience. The tour operators and guides were professional. We had the perfect day on the glacier meeting the dogs. I would highly recommend this excursion to anyone. It is well worth the money..
Sheree_C, May 2026
Booked the experience, rang up that morning to see if it was going ahead as the weather was off. Was told it was an hour by hour decision, but when we got there, no trips had gone that day to the dog sledding. An alternative was offered just to look at 1 glacier. If we knew earlier the dogs were off we could have gone on another experience so our whole day in Juneau was just looking at shops. The positive was a full refund.
Wayne_M, May 2026
It didn't happen. Was cancelled last minute as we were standing to board the bus. Planned our whole trip round this excursion. Too late to book anything else.
Kelly_H, May 2026
Absolutely incredible trip. So worth it very penny. Totally unforgettable! The dogs are so friendly and well trained, the moshers were so friendly and knowledgeable and the helicopter team were faultless too. A once in a lifetime opportunity and we thoroughly enjoyed it

The moon, stars, weather were aligned! I have been on an adrenaline high all day from this experience from the begging of the helicopter ride. All staff were great, loved what they do to make sure we all had a great time. I would def do this again. All should do it if you can
Denise_W, Sep 2025
Wow! We took a soaring ride in a helicopter and saw the Mendenhall glacier from the air. We then landed on the glacier itself. We got to meet the dogs and take a sleigh ride with them. The views were gorgeous. Everyone was so nice. Very safe operation
Amanda_K, Aug 2025
I was on the fence about getting the excursion because of the price but man, I'm glad we did it. Such a once in a lifetime experience!!! I couldn't believe the sight we saw as we flew over the camp and that experience on the sled. Wow. Love it!!!
Kelly_K, Aug 2025
We had a great time! Loved the whole experience and everything was as smooth as possible. Would highly recommend.
Ranni_M, Aug 2025
Awesome experience. Kendra and the crew members did fantastic job and the glacier view was spectacular on the helicopter. Kid and whole family loved it.
Kristin_S, Aug 2025
Excursion was canceled an hour ahead of time due to weather. Super sad as this was the one thing I was looking most forward to. Please note, weather had absolutely everything to do with the cancellation. Waiting for my full refund.
Kim_M, Aug 2025
Helicopter ride very smooth ride! Amazing to see the glacier from above. So exciting to be on the glacier in Alaska dog sledding! Dogs were beautiful and friendly! Mushers were fun to talk to about their life and work on the glacier in the dog camp! Worth every penny!!
kkwyland, Aug 2025
Coastal Helicopters was amazing, truly a once in a lifetime experience! The helicopter ride itself flying over the glaciers was incredible and the dog sledding finished off the best excursion we have ever been on. Our musher Stuart was the best! Totally worth the cost! Highly recommend.
