An Unforgettable Adventure with Coastal Helicopters – A Must-Do in Juneau! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
If you're considering a once-in-a-lifetime experience in Juneau, look no further than the Helicopter and Dogsledding Excursion to Herbert Glacier with Coastal Helicopters – it was absolutely incredible from start to finish!
From the moment we lifted off, the views from the helicopter were breathtaking – soaring over icefields and rugged Alaskan terrain was simply magical. But the highlight was landing right on Herbert Glacier at the dogsled camp. The setting was surreal – pure white snow, crisp mountain air, and the most enthusiastic team of sled dogs and handlers you could ever meet.
We were warmly greeted at the glacier by our musher, Sam, who was phenomenal! She was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the whole experience even more special. She shared her expertise about the dogs and the sport, and took amazing photos and videos for us – memories we’ll treasure forever.
To top off an already magical day, I had the absolute honor of being in the sled with Jared, Nicole, and their son Landon when Jared proposed right there on the glacier – and Nicole said YES! Witnessing that joyful moment surrounded by snow, sunshine, and cheering dogs was unforgettable and brought happy tears to everyone’s eyes.
The dogs were incredibly friendly and clearly loved what they do, and the entire staff made us feel welcomed and safe throughout the tour. The whole experience was exceptionally well organized and smoothly run – we couldn’t have asked for more.
If you're anywhere near Juneau, do not miss this excursion – it’s worth every penny and more. It’s not just a tour; it’s a once-in-a-lifetime adventure full of wonder, joy, and unforgettable memories.
Thank you to Coastal Helicopters, Sam, and the amazing dog team for giving us one of the most memorable days of our lives!

Wow! We took a soaring ride in a helicopter and saw the Mendenhall glacier from the air. We then landed on the glacier itself. We got to meet the dogs and take a sleigh ride with them. The views were gorgeous. Everyone was so nice. Very safe operation

I was on the fence about getting the excursion because of the price but man, I'm glad we did it. Such a once in a lifetime experience!!! I couldn't believe the sight we saw as we flew over the camp and that experience on the sled. Wow. Love it!!!

We had a great time! Loved the whole experience and everything was as smooth as possible. Would highly recommend.

Awesome experience. Kendra and the crew members did fantastic job and the glacier view was spectacular on the helicopter. Kid and whole family loved it.

Excursion was canceled an hour ahead of time due to weather. Super sad as this was the one thing I was looking most forward to. Please note, weather had absolutely everything to do with the cancellation. Waiting for my full refund.

Helicopter ride very smooth ride! Amazing to see the glacier from above. So exciting to be on the glacier in Alaska dog sledding! Dogs were beautiful and friendly! Mushers were fun to talk to about their life and work on the glacier in the dog camp! Worth every penny!!

Coastal Helicopters was amazing, truly a once in a lifetime experience! The helicopter ride itself flying over the glaciers was incredible and the dog sledding finished off the best excursion we have ever been on. Our musher Stuart was the best! Totally worth the cost! Highly recommend.

Helicopter ride was great
The service was efficient and on time
Dog sleighing was disappointing. It was not long enough. We kept taking stops. Have had a much better experience in Finland so comparatively it wasn’t worth the money we spent.

Peter was an incredible musher and guide during our glacier dogsledding tour. From the moment we arrived at the Herbert Glacier camp, he and the team at Alaska Icefield Expeditions made us feel totally welcome and excited for the experience. I had so many questions about the dogs, the sled, the glacier, the weather and Peter answered every single one with patience and enthusiasm. He is very knowledgeable, and it's obvious how much he cares about the dogs and what he does.
Getting to learn from someone so passionate made the whole thing even more special. Huge thanks to Peter for making it such an unforgettable adventure!

The people were great. It is more of a sample of dogsledding and worth the entire trip. These dogs love to run and are so friendly.

We had a great overall experience. Communication beforehand was clear and professional, and everything went smoothly with pickup and logistics. The helicopter ride itself was a highlight, absolutely stunning views and an exciting flight that set the tone for the adventure.
The dogsledding portion was definitely special, especially being on real snow, but it was shorter than expected, just one loop around the camp with several breaks. There was also quite a bit of downtime at the camp while waiting for the return flight.
That said, this option was definitely the better choice compared to the in town dog sled experience without snow. The scenery and authenticity made it worth it. I just wish the sledding portion had been longer to match the rest of the adventure.

This was absolutely breathtaking and hands down one of the best’s moments of our entire trip !! We’ll do it again and again!!!!

Highly recommend! Truly felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Everything was well organized and went smoothly, from meeting the tour guides by the tram to driving to the airport and taking the helicopter to dog sledding and meeting the incredible Alaskan huskies. We went with the whole family and everyone had a great time including my 4-year-old.

Since it is Alaska, the weather can affect this experience directly. On the day of our tour we did not know whether the tour would happened or not until 3:31PM when we got onto their 3:39PM shuttle bus to the airport!
Once at the airport, we went through a safety briefing including the usual signing “Release of Liability”; i.e. signing your life away, watching a video and wearing of snow shoe covers. We felt a bit rush at this stage and we were not given enough time to get ready. We were required to leave everything at the airport other than what we were wearing and our phones/cameras. We were so rushed that we forgot our gloves and hats!
The helicopter ride was smooth and the journey to the base camp too about twenty minutes. At the base camp, there were about 240 Alaskan Huskies of various age and sizes. We were split into groups of 4 (basically our fellow helicopter riders) and our Musher led a team of 12 dogs and took us around a fixed course. The actual ride lasted about 20 minutes.
Then we waited for our helicopter to take us back down the mountain and back to airport. Their shuttle bus then dropped us back in town/port.

Loved the helicopter ride, so beautiful! It was great to actually get a "real sled dog" experience
Loved petting the dogs!
Mendez_G, May 2025
The best experience in our life. The panoramic views, the staff, everything was just perfect. It’s the bucket list moment.
Barbara_J, May 2025
No matter what you think, you haven’t seen Alaska until you see it by helicopter flying to and from the glacier and being greeted by 240 dogs and a bunch of exuberant staff members. What a way to end our vacation!
Ronald_B, May 2025
It was an amazing day, and perfect in all ways. First the sky was blue and a gentle wind set the stage. The excursion began with a trip to the airport where we donned boots for the excursion. That was followed by a helicopter ride which made for wonderful picture opportunities. On arrival the orientation talk was informative and meeting the dogs and mushing across the Juneau ice field was a highpoint. The trip was pricy but it was a truly a trip of a lifetime.

Beautiful Weather. Helicopter ride was handled very professional. Costco is a very well run organization. Good aircraft. Good pilots.

What an amazing experience this was. Unforgettable!! Breath taking. Beauty all around from our helicopter and our wonderful captain and then on land with the dogs and the mountains and ice with our experts and cute dog sled rider
Edward_S, Aug 2024
The weather was clear blue sky so the flights, especially on the way back, were jaw droppingly good!
Jeanette_C, Aug 2024
Beautiful blue sky, white snow covered glacier, welcoming tour crew, huskies that love their job & willing to give joyful petting. Our husker was full of information about the glacier & his team. Our pilot was also full of information & made my first helicopter experience delightful.
Kristina_G, Aug 2024
This is an experience of a lifetime! Sam was an awesome guide and the helicopter guy was super cool too! I could have spent all day with these dogs! It went by way too fast! I loved getting to know the dogs and their individual personalities. Sam was great at highlighting those quirks that each dog had! Eg: Beebop and Johnny!!

This trip was so well organized from start to finish that it made for a wonderful day. Weather was perfect and the helicopter ride was so smooth and beautiful. The dog sled ride was very fun and the views on the glacier are views that you must see. If you are thinking about this trip just do it you will be glad you did. It is so worth the price. The dogs made the young children so happy it was great to see them so happy.

Breathtaking views of Mendenhall glacier. Dog sledding experience while on the glacier was so much fun. Very informative and super safe. Bucket list experience. Worth the money. If going to Alaska, definitely take this excursion
Kathi_J, Aug 2024
The trip was amazing. The entire staff was pleasant well organized. The dog mushers were so passionate about their job. You can tell they truly love the dogs and what they do. I 100 time recommend this excursion!
Jessica_W, Aug 2024
Truly was worth it. We took our kids 8,9,11 and 13. Everything everyone has said and more.
Picked up at the port, transported to the airport for a briefing and shoe cover. Our pilot was fantastic (6of us and small kids so we all were able to ride together). The views were incredible. Dog sledding we did have to divide up, not a big deal. So fun and awesome experience.

They cancelled our tour due to weather. Which is fine. The problem is that they had us dio te d up. Up until we were going to go to the helicopter they told us they cancelled our tour. Total waste of our time. We got a refund but we lost our time in Juneau doing nothing. Not recommended
