This horse-drawn carriage ride and tour, a journey that travels back in time to the colonial beginnings of Charleston, meets at 14 Anson Street, home of the Old South Carriage Company. Charleston, the oldest and second-largest city in South Carolina, is defined by its cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages and pre-Civil-War-era houses.
As the tour progresses, pass by the old churches, antebellum mansions and lush gardens of Charleston — more than 2.5 miles and 30 blocks of residential real estate. Stop outside historic homes, like the Gov. William Aiken House, the former home of South Carolina Governor William Aiken, Jr. This house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
Part of the charm of the tour are the horses that pull the carriage. These are the same kinds of draft horses that worked on American farms in the early 1800s, making this voyage all the more authentic.

We showed up for our scheduled time and the tour guides were organized and ready for all of the many different groups of people. They were so quick to get us in our seats and we left right in time!

Very informative and excellent experience! So much that I did the night one later that evening for the haunted carriage ride.

Great views of historical district, and the man in charge did a terrific job of providing context. I am finished.

Our guide was Skylar, and she was amazing! So personable and knowledgeable! A true story teller :). There was an event that closed part of our route (which she wasn’t made aware of) and she handled it so calmly. Rerouted our beautiful horse, Duke, and continued to share interesting facts on the newer streets that are not part of the trip. She made it so fun!

This was an amazing experience to share with my elderly mother! We toured the city at 9:00 am and thoroughly enjoyed every part of the tour! Our driver (Madison) is genuinely excited to share stories and the history of Charleston and the sites we passed! We were also blessed to get the southern part of the city in the BINGO assignment.

The tour was nice, the carriage was very full and cramped. The guide was knowledgeable but maybe a little to verbose.
Todd_G, Mar 2026
The horse, Mason, and our guide, Mike, were beyond excellent. The history and knowledge that Mike had was excellent as well as his personality and sense of humor. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour. The homes were absolutely spectacular.

40% of the tour was spent following a garbage truck. Really poor planning on behalf of the company. Tour is with another 12
People. Tour guide was nice but we literally sat on the side of the road multiple times waiting for the trash crew. Not worth $150

We thoroughly enjoyed our carriage ride through historic Charleston. Our guide, Wendy, was amazing….she made the history of Charleston come alive with her energy and humor. My husband and I learned some new facts about the city and had a great time. Our trusty steed, Tucker, did an awesome job as well.
Barbara_C, Mar 2026
Nice, pleasant way to see highlights of early Charleston history. The carriages all go different routes determined by “bingo” style system. Mine was great.
Earl_T, Mar 2026
We had the best experience with John (the good looking one) and Jesse! It was nice seeing and learning a little history about Charleston. He also serenaded us with a song….cant get better than that!
