Bikes, Glacier Views, and Microbrews begins with a 20 minute van ride out of historic downtown Juneau out to the Mendenhall Valley, where you'll be outfitted with bikes, helmets, and rain gear if necessary. The ride starts at the eastern side of the Mendenhall Glacier, with a 4 mile ride over to the western shore of Mendenhall Lake. Here, you'll enjoy a brief break and scenic view of the lake. Next, you'll hop back on the bikes and ride 4 miles back to the eastern side of the glacier, riding through two beautiful trails in the Tongass National Forest. After the ride, your guide will walk you to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, where you will have 45 minutes of independent exploration. The Brown Bears at Pack Creek range in size from small cubs of the year to large males coming in over 1000lbs. May to Mid-June is mating season and summer foraging. We see bears interact in a variety of ways and courtship behavior is common, we also often see bears digging for clams, or eating sedge grass. This is also a great time to watch sows playing with cubs, and the best time for encounters with large males. Mid-July to the end of September are the various Salmon Runs, this is when the bears go to work. The bears focus is on fishing. The primary viewing location is about ten meters from the creek. This is when we often see the most bears in view at a given moment, and the only time to get a picture of a bear with a fish in its mouth. Viewing distances at Pack Creek can be as close as 30ft away or as far as a 1,000yds out, depending on the individual bear and which food source they are using.

Breath taking

Our Whale Tales whale watching excursion was the absolute highlight of our Alaska trip! The crew was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience unforgettable. We were incredibly fortunate to witness humpback whales bubble net feeding, something we had hoped to see but never expected to experience in person. On the way to and from the marina, we also spotted countless bald eagles and even a black bear with her cub, making the trip even more special. Exceptional experience

This was one of the best excursions we have done in multiple cruises! They are so organized and every single employee seems to absolutely love their job! Lexi, our bus driver cracked us up with punny jokes and fun facts our entire trip to the glacier, to the harbor, & back into town! Larry, Monica, & Claire were so amazing at knowing just where to spot BOTH humpback whales & orcas on our tour. There were even a few seals in the harbor. This was a truly remarkable adventure & you can tell the operators care about the whales, nature, and educating people as well as ensuring a good time.

Amazing and informative...

Amazing and informative flying experience. There is an audio recording to listen to explaining the various glaciers and points of interest as you are flying, during which our pilot, Jordan, added some of his own unique highlights and things to look out for. Even though it was a drizzly and misty day in the town when the cruise ship docked, the glaciers were crystal clear amd our views were amazing. Definitely worth the experience and I would recommend putting this on your itinerary!

Exceptional staff and experience!

This experience was amazing! Both our driver and naturalist were exceptional. We were blessed to see more whales than we could count! The whales were bubble net feeding and were breaching the water constantly. We will never forget this experience. The boat was intimate with 12 guests (max 21) and was perfect! we really did “skip the crowds” Highly recommended! Five stars!

We were a little on the fence about booking this because we had already scheduled some excursions for our stop in Juneau. It was going to be a long day for my kids, but at the last minute we decided to go for it. I am so glad we did! This was one of the most incredible experiences of our lives. Our helicopter ride was so smooth and our pilot Alex was amazing. He was so kind. He patiently answered all 1000 of my son’s questions (ha!) and took my kids and I exploring all around the glacier. There isn’t much out there that can compete with the view from the top. It is breathtaking! Coastal Helicopters is incredibly professional and well run. We would 1000% recommend this activity to anyone and everyone!

Majestic Ice

While I would have liked to witness the glacier decades ago as it was spilling into the lake, it was still a majestic sight. Getting good views of the glacier itself and the falls was easy. Even on an excellent weather day like we had (clear skies and ~70°), the park was not that crowded and easy to move about without bumping into others. The visit provided an easy afternoon, beautiful nature view, and a good walk to stretch the legs. Recommended.

My husband, our 18-year-old son, our 15-year-old daughter, and I had an absolutely amazing experience from start to finish. The flight to Taku Lodge was breathtaking, with incredible views that we'll never forget. A huge thank you to our pilot, John, who made the flight both enjoyable and informative. Once we arrived at the lodge, we were greeted by the friendliest, most welcoming staff. They made us feel right at home. The salmon meal they prepared was absolutely delicious—one of the best meals we had on our entire trip! We also loved learning about the fascinating history of Taku Lodge and the care and dedication that goes into preserving such a special place. It made the experience feel even more meaningful. The return flight to Juneau was just as spectacular as the trip out. Every moment of this excursion exceeded our expectations. If you're visiting Juneau and considering this excursion, don't hesitate—it is worth every single penny. We would do it again in a heartbeat!
