What are people saying about Galveston

Powerful experience in Galveston
We met Dr. Sorrell on Saturday morning after arriving in Galveston for the first time that day. We learned so much from her and her teaching style . She asks great questions! The most impactful piece for me was the Absolute Equality mural, which is so beautifully done and her explanation of it helped me grasp parts of the African American experience that I didn't know about, in particular the complicated legacy of Lincoln and also the role of Galveston in the slave trade and the Middle Passage. We've been to many Civil Rights historical sites, most in the deep South, and this one right on the Gulf really hit home. Also I want to give a shout out to the Nia Cultural Center, where our hosts gave an passionate tribute to the boxer Jack Johnson, probably the most famous Galveston citizen, and showed off some amazing artwork. Being from the northern states , I didn't know the Juneteenth story well and I am so glad it is now a part of our national story. Tours like these really highlight how we need to go beyond our school classrooms to truly understand history. Long live the telling of local history!

Galveston Sunset Boat Tour
We have been on many Galveston boat/bay rides with Captain Zeke. All have been great. However, the Sunset Boat Tour was totally different. You see the sun set in the horizon. Awesome photography to be had. A real experience to actually see the sun set with great photo opportunities. Also dolphins follow the boat with a chance to video or take a picture of them. Totally recommend this tour with Captain Zeke. A real funny guy. Thanks Captain Zeke for another fun time. Roger and Mary

Fantastic experience! We saw many dolphins up close and the captain was excellent — friendly, professional, and full of interesting information. The harbor tour included was a great bonus, with wonderful views of the port and ships. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Galveston.

Though some people assume Texas' favorite vacay hot spot is all about the beaches and fun in the sun, these Galveston tours can help you unlock some of the city's historical intrigue, which was once a bustling immigration port considered the “Ellis Island of the South.” Take a spooky tour to learn of the ghosts that are rumored to haunt the island, a century after the US' most deadly natural disaster, or learn about the history of Juneteenth, which all started right here in Galveston.
