The Vatican museum tour...

Love_T, Feb 2026
The Vatican museum tour was helpful but it was very crowded. The tour guide was helpful, but with a thick accent and hard to follow. The Sistine chapel tour was not a guided tour and the guide , after the Vatican museum tour gave directions to the chapel. The wait for the St. Basilica was crazy long like over three hours as the lines were insanely long. I had read about the long lines but did not expect it in February. One needs more than 2-3 hours for the museum and at least another 1.5-2 hours to see the artworks in the Sistine Chapel art gallery and the main Chapel. I recommend seeing the St. Peter’s Basilica in the morning when the lines are short and don’t need to be included in a tour( but remember to get a ticket online early)

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Thank you for sharing your detailed feedback about your visit to the **Vatican Museums**, **Sistine Chapel**, and **St. Peter's Basilica**. We’re glad you found the tour helpful, though we understand that the crowds and wait times can be overwhelming, even in February. We also appreciate your comments about the guide — we’ll certainly take that into consideration as we continually work to improve our guests’ experiences. Thank you as well for the helpful tips you shared for future visitors. We truly value your feedback and hope you still had a memorable experience overall.

Never again

Bram_B, Feb 2026
Terrible experience. Booked a guided tour but when picking up the tickets no guide was available. We could reschedule to a tour hours later, messing up our plans for the day. So we chose to visit the Vatican museum and St. Peter's Basilica ourselves. We were promised a €10 refund per person. That was the best they could offer. I've never received the refund. Basically, all we got were so called "skip the line tickets" for double the price. All in all a costly and bad experience.

Response from Host, Feb 2026

Hello, We have agreed to the refund, please just give it few more days to be processed :)

Good day at the Vatican

Carmen_B, Dec 2025
It's a walking tour where you skip the line and have a guide. The audio piece is helpful for hearing the guide. It's not fast paced. It covers the Museum and the Sistine chapel. St. Peter's is an entrace ticket. Unfortunately after doing the 330pm we arrived at 630p and it was closed for the night. They closed at 6pm and we were unable to see St. Peter's or the square. Our guide was very personable and knowledgeable, Francesca. I'd recommend goin with her any time.

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We’re delighted to hear that you enjoyed the walking tour and found the audio guides helpful. It’s wonderful to know that Francesca made such a positive impression — she truly is personable and incredibly knowledgeable. We appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you back for another great visit in the future!

Good tour with knowledgable tour guide.

Chris_S, Oct 2025
It was a good tour of the Vatican Museum, Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter's Basilica. Our tour guide also demonstrated where to go to go through the holy door (normally not open) and see the Pieta during this Jubilee year. Our time was changed 1 day before the tour (from 11:00 to 12:30). If you are flexible this is ok, but if you are tightly scheduled this could be a problem.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the tour and the insights during this Jubilee year. We appreciate your understanding about the time change and will work to improve communication for future guests.

Very disappointing experience

Bharat_P, Sep 2025
The absence of any guidance, communication, or even basic acknowledgment from the operator resulted in us completely missing the tour. • The Viator app displayed unclear and misleading information. Instead of listing the correct meeting point, the app only displayed the end point of the tour. This was confusing and made it extremely difficult for us to locate the correct guide. • Despite arriving at the meeting point 40 minutes before the scheduled start, nobody from the tour operator was present to greet us. Even after the scheduled departure time had passed, no representative arrived to gather or guide participants. We asked other guides in the area, searched for groups, and repeatedly tried to identify our guide, but to no avail. • We attempted to contact the tour operator directly via the Viator app during this time, yet received no response whatsoever. This lack of communication was deeply disappointing. • Out of desperation, we even tried to intercept the group at the first stop outside the museum, but were again unsuccessful. After waiting over 20 minutes past the scheduled departure time with no contact from the operator, we reluctantly abandoned hope of joining the tour. I would request that Viator review its processes to ensure greater accountability from operators, clearer information in booking confirmations, and more reliable channels of communication for customers. Very disheartening experience.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Bharat, Thank you for your feedback. We do remember your case clearly and would like to clarify a few important points. Our confirmation email and voucher clearly state that guests must arrive at the meeting point at least 30 minutes before the tour's scheduled departure time to complete check-in and meet the guide and group. In your case, the tour began on time, and our team was present at the correct meeting location as indicated in the booking materials. You reached out to us via the Viator app at 10:44 AM, which was 15 minutes after the tour had already departed. At that point, the group had moved on from the meeting point and entered the venue. We understand that the area around the Vatican can be busy and sometimes confusing, which is why we always urge our guests to read the meeting instructions carefully and arrive early. As the tour, guide, tickets, and group reservations were all arranged in advance specifically for your booking, we were unable to accommodate a refund for a missed tour. We always strive to be fair, but we also have to follow policies in place to respect the time and preparation involved in every group experience. We encourage all guests to double-check the meeting instructions in the confirmation email and not rely solely on third-party app maps, which can sometimes show the endpoint, not the start location. Clear and timely communication helps ensure a smooth experience for everyone. We appreciate your understanding.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Breathtaking...

Dawna_O, Sep 2025
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A Breathtaking and Inspiring Experience! This tour was nothing short of amazing! Walking through the Vatican Museums with an expert guide made all the difference — instead of feeling overwhelmed by the sheer size and number of masterpieces, we were led through the highlights with fascinating stories and insights. Every room felt like stepping into another world of history, art, and faith. The Sistine Chapel was simply breathtaking. Being able to fully appreciate Michelangelo’s masterpiece after learning the background and symbolism beforehand made the experience even more powerful. The tour ended at St. Peter’s Basilica, which was absolutely awe-inspiring. Standing inside and taking in the grandeur of the architecture, the sculptures, and the atmosphere is something I’ll never forget. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rome — it’s well organized, educational, and truly unforgettable. A must-do!

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you so much for this wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed the tour and that it left such a lasting impression. It’s always our goal to make these incredible sites come alive through stories and expert guidance, and we're glad that made a difference for you. Your kind recommendation means a lot — we hope to welcome you back again someday!

Paid too much, got too little in return I

Carl_B, May 2025
The tourguide’s accent was so thick and she talked so fast. I could barely understand anything she would say. Also, the booking clearly says “Entry into St. Peter’s with guided tour”, she dropped us off at the gift shop and left. We had to leave Vat City, re-enter and get in line to enter St Peter’s Cathedral with everybody else. I have taken this type of tour in the past, and in the past our tour guide, let us into Saint Peter’s. In the end, it’s not worth the over $300 that this cost.

Response from Host, May 2025

Hello, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear that you had trouble understanding our guide. All of our guides are certified and officially approved to operate in the Vatican, and they are fluent in at least 3 to 4 languages. While accents may vary, they are highly skilled in delivering the facts and history in a clear and accessible way. We encourage all guests to focus on the rich history and insights being shared, as this is the essence of the experience. We hope that, despite this, you were able to appreciate the cultural and historical value of the tour. Thank you again for your comment, and we wish you all the best. Best regards,

A guided tour option

Danielle_S, Jan 2025
There is a lot to see so I definitely encourage you to get a guided tour if you want to skip the lines and see the most important sites in the time that you have.

Response from Host, Feb 2025

Hey Danielle, Thank you for your recommendation! We completely agree—having a guided tour is a great way to make the most of your visit, skip the lines, and explore the key sites efficiently. It helps you experience the highlights without feeling rushed. We’re glad you enjoyed your time, and we hope to welcome you again for another amazing experience! Best,

Very unorganized

Madison_D, Oct 2024
I would not recommend this tour; we had originally booked a tour at 2:30 weeks in advance. I received a call from this agency only DAYS before our tour that there was an “administrative error” and that “the Vatican” had overbooked tours for 2:30. They offered us a tour at 8:30 am which was quite different from our original tour time, and after discussion finally offered us a tour at 5:30. I received an email from the agency stating that I needed to be at their office at 4:15 outside the Vatican to pick up our tickets and meet the tour guide inside the Vatican walls. When I got there the lady at the counter told me that I actually didn’t need to be there until 5 and that they would take us inside ourselves. The communication is so disorganized, I would not recommend. Especially when the tour itself is so pricey, please take your business elsewhere where they will uphold their commitments.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Hello Madison, Thank you for your feedback. We sincerely apologize for the issues you encountered with your tour. We understand how frustrating it must have been to have your original time changed and to face confusion regarding the meeting time. We want to emphasize that all our communications are honest and clear. We encourage our customers to arrive early, especially during busy times, to allow sufficient time for redeeming vouchers for actual tickets at our meeting point. This suggestion is meant to ensure a smooth experience, and we do communicate the entrance time to the Vatican clearly. While we are responsible for what we communicate, we cannot be accountable for misunderstandings. Your experience does not reflect our usual standards, and we will take your comments seriously to improve our processes moving forward. We appreciate your input and hope you will consider giving us another chance in the future. CRT

Vatican tour is great

Robin_B, Sep 2024
We had a wonderful tour of all things Vatican on 9/20/24. Stephanie was our tour guide and she couldn’t have been any better. Very knowledgeable about all aspects and eager to answer any questions. She kept us going to cover it all in 3 covers but we never felt rushed. Would highly recommend this tour.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you so much for your lovely review! We're thrilled to hear Stephanie provided such an informative and enjoyable tour. It’s great that you felt well-paced and fully covered everything. We truly appreciate your recommendation and hope to welcome you again!

Total waste of money!

Autumn_W, May 2024
The tour started 45 minutes late and we were not notified. We had another tour scheduled for after this one and it would have put us behind. The tour guide then told us that we could not see the Sistine Chapel unless we finished the entire tour with her (Clara). We had to leave the group and see the Sistine Chapel on our own so we didn’t miss our next tour. Total waste of money!

Response from Host, May 2024

Hello Autumn, Thank you for your feedback, you had your tour scheduled on Tuesday May 28th at 11:30 - Your guide was Chiara and she is one of our best guides. I'm sorry to say but the tour did definitely NOT start 45minutes late, this is impossible since the Vatican is very strict about entrance timing and they wouldn't allow anyone in who is late especially for a tour. I am sorry you had a tight schedule to plan all of your tours on the same day, we hope to have you on another adventure when you will have more time to enjoy our guide's company and our attractions. Best, City Rome Tours.

Not very engaging and skipped the Raphael frescos

Conal_S, May 2024
The tour guide was pretty knowledgeable but not very engaging. He also skipped the Raphael frescos and spent time on the cars given to the pope as well as North American artifacts (why would I go to the Vatican from North America to see that?)

Response from Host, May 2024

Hi Conal, Thank you for sharing your review. It's great to hear that the tour guide was knowledgeable, our guides make sure the visit to the Vatican focuses on its unique and significant cultural treasures. I understand your frustration with the selection of exhibits, sometimes the tour feels like it's rushed through because we are in high season and it can get crowded. Your feedback is valuable and highlights the importance of a well-rounded and engaging tour. We strive to provide the best service to our clients, we are taking all points mentioned into consideration. Thank you for trusting us, we look forward to having you here with us in the future. Regards, City Rome Tours.

Good

Sarah_K, Mar 2024
The tour was really well and the guide explained everything so well that when we got to Sistine chapel it was nice to recognize the paintings. The tour started a little late and looking for the meeting point was not very straightforward.

Response from Host, Mar 2024

Hello Sarah, Thank you for your positive feedback! We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and found the guide's explanations helpful in appreciating the artwork, especially in the Sistine Chapel. We apologize for the delay in starting the tour and any confusion in finding the meeting point. Your comments are valuable, and we'll strive to ensure a smoother experience in the future. We hope to welcome you back on another tour soon! City Rome Tours.

Do you have a drive around the city to see hi lights of Rome today for 1-2 hours?

Dick_H, Nov 2023

We did the 8:45am tour...

Melissa_B, Oct 2023
We did the 8:45am tour and we had a very brief wait to get into the Museum/Sistine Chapel. Once the tour was over, we were dropped off at St. Peter's Basilica, which allowed us to completely skip the very long entry line. The tour was professional and well-run.

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Hi! We are happy to hear that you found our service valuable. We are trying to do our best every time. Cant wait to serve you again:)) Kindest Regards City Rome Tours

Go on your own

Gerald_D, Oct 2023
Oinlia spent ten minutes talking about a pine cone. 15 minutes in hot sunlight about history I DONT recommend it Get to the Basilica and master pieces!!

Response from Host, Oct 2023

Hi! Thanks a lot to share your experience with us. We always start our tour in front of the museum entrance to get basic knowledges beforehand.

Awesome & Uplifting

Donny_O, Oct 2023
Explanations of the symbolism of the paintings etc especially the Last Judgment. Overwhelming splendor of the Sistine Chapel.

Worth it!

Ann_M, Oct 2023
We had Gabriel as our guide, he was EXCELLENT, knowledgeable and interesting. The sites were very crowded but he was able to easily guide us through.

Expensive for 2 hours

KATHY_G, Sep 2023
Our tour guide was very informative, but 2 hours was very short for the price of the tour. We saw some tour guides in the cestine chapel. It would be more helpful to include this in the tour

Wonderful tour guide

virginia_p, Sep 2023
Wonderful tour guide - Ulia. Incredible knowledge of artifacts in Vatican museum and the Vatican itself. She kept us together through the crowds - entertaining us as we went!

Terrible experience with tour guide of the vatican/sistine chapel

Andrian_B, Aug 2023
I would not recommend this tour to anyone due to the miscommunications and mistakes made by the tour company and the tour guide. I understand that the tour company is not completely responsible for how many bookings take place from different platforms. (Viator, TripAdvisor, etc.) But in this case, the tour company was not prepared with enough tour guides and were extremely slow in starting the tour. Our tour time was at 2:30pm. We did not start our tour until 4pm. We waited in the office while the tour reps did nothing and provided no updates. When we finally received a tour guide, this elderly woman was extremely slow during the tour and was not physically prepared to walk the entire tour. The tour guide was aware that the sistine chapel would be closed after 5pm, yet she spent an obscene amount of time in the pinecone garden. Muiltiple people begged her to move faster and the private tour rep simply left her behind because he knew that we would not have enough time to finish the tour and spend time in the sistine chapel. As expected, we only spent 5 minutes getting rushed through the Sistine Chapel. The tour guide woman began screaming at one of the guests saying that she told us that we could not be in the chapel past 5:05pm. Everyone was very upset. This was a terrible experience and I would not encourage anyone to pay for this service. Find a private tour company. This is much more worth the money, or simply go by yourself. Risking having a terrible tour guide is not worth any amount of discount.

Amazing tour

Kaylin_M, Aug 2023
Roberta was an amazing tour guide. She provided us with great detail for all of the spots we stopped at in the museums. It was very easy to find the meeting spot and everything ran very smoothly. I highly recommend doing this tour if it’s your first time visiting Rome!

Not the fault of the tour - but crowds are too think to experience these sites properly (June 2023)

Amy_G, Jun 2023
In June of 2023 the crowds at Vatican/Sistine chapel were so thick you really could not see or experience any of the art or history due to the overcrowding.

Great visit

Heide_b, Jun 2023
Fred was a great guide! It was a very crowded day and he maneuvered the crowds fantastically. He was knowledgeable about what we saw as well.

Our day at the Vatican

Brilliant, and saved money on the cost of online tickets!

Guy_T, Aug 2022
Great experience, David was very informative. No queueing, saved money on the cost of equivalent tour tickets online
