It is much more than just a tour of the Jewish ghetto but a wonderful overview of changing neighborhoods and how their residents were impacted by who was in power at any given time. Also wonderful introduction to how and why buildings were built a certain way.
Maria_C, Mar 2026
Nice overview of the area! Not strenuous. Guide very helpful in finding start point. And communicated well.
Barrie_A, Mar 2026
Our guide was delightful. Very personable. He gave us lots of information about Rome's history, in the context of what we were seeing. He was also very thoughtful regarding pacing. (I am a very slow walker in my 70s). We really enjoyed our tour and meeting the guide.
mira_e, Mar 2026
Fabiana was a great tour guide. She was so knowledgeable, providing so much information and making it fun. We were travelling with our 13 year old grandson who had lots of questions for her! I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rome.
Lisa_S, Mar 2026
incredibly knowledgable guide; saw sites and parts of the city we did not see or even hear about in more general tours.
Irene_R, Mar 2026
Knowledgeable tour guide but bailed after the Jewish Ghetto. Happy I didn’t pay too much for this tour.

Cannot comment because my tour got canceled. I am awaiting a refund. Does the tour description mention that the tour needs a minimum number of enrollments in order to proceed?

Gurban was our guide. He was on time. The tour lasted about an hour. I think he was knowledge but talked so soft. Didn’t really see many things. Guide must have been new. I know the tour was inexpensive but would have tipped better for great tour.

Our tour of the Jewish Ghetto was very informative. While our guide was not a native he knew a great deal about Roman history. We expected to learn more about Trastevere based on the title but he did a thorough job of explaining the Jewish Ghetto.

Words don’t describe the feelings from this tour.
To begin, our guide Yousef was beyond amazing! His knowledge was unbelievable!
This tour is definitely for Jews, but anyone with an open mind who wants to learn what happened to the Jewish people in Rome would learn from this experience.
I like to think I am well educated in the history of my people, but there were so many things I learned today that will stay with me forever.
I feel this tour is just as important to a visit to Rome as a Colosseum tour or any other historical landmark.
Response from Host, Dec 2025

Kelli_G, Nov 2025
Our tour guide was lovely and very informative, but this is a FREE TOUR, and the money paid is just for Viator to connect you with a free tour, and they do not pay the tour guides at all. Which meant- we paid Viator $25 for our family of 5 to do something I could have just as easily found online myself if I knew that was what we were paying for, then we were surprised by the tour guides telling us it was a free tour and she is only paid by tips! This is false advertising on the part of Viator!!
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you for your feedback. This tour is clearly described as a Free / Pay-What-You-Wish experience, and the amount paid during booking is only a reservation/processing fee, not a ticket price. This is also mentioned consistently across our formal reviews from other guests. We’re glad you enjoyed the guide and appreciate you joining us.
Cassandra_V, Nov 2025

Rachel_J, Nov 2025
Well, I scheduled the tour for a Friday and when I arrived at the destination point, I could not find the group. So, I made the call to the contact person. He informed me that he had reached out via Whatsapp and stated that I was the only one on the tour so he cancelled it and I had the option to go tomorrow with another group. Well, the next day was Shabbat so the same activity and hustle was not going to be the same. But, I did go the next day with a very educated woman from Lebanon. I can't remember her name but she was a solid tour guide and I did feel like I learned quite a bit.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad you were able to join the tour the next day and that your guide provided an informative and enjoyable experience. We appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts, and we hope to welcome you again on another FreeTourRome tour soon!
