Overview
The dormant Haleakala Volcano towers thousands of feet in the air. During this exciting excursion, go downhill biking on the slopes of the volcano and enjoy some of the best views of the island. A van drives you up the mountain to your starting point and then you can ride the upper and lower sections at your own pace. Maui County Law ages 15-up.

We spent the most beautiful day biking down the hill. The bikes were in excellent condition and the staff were very caring and attentive and made sure we were all safe. Remy was an excellent tour guide and great company. Highly recommend this experience with them.

5* for our guide Mathias and the preparation and experience of the company. The bikes were good and we felt readied for the adventure when we reached the start of the ride. Opted for gloves - recommend since lots of breaking. Nice lunch break midway. And visual arts center was worth a stop.
This was exhilarating, highlight of our trip to Maui. Bike guide was very knowledgeable and entertaining.

I was really nervous to do this, but decided to go with my husband anyway. It was a lot of fun even though I’m not a great bicyclist. It was tense at times, but certainly worth the effort. I felt like this company was concerned for our safety and were very attentive.
It looks a lot more scary going up than it really is coming down! I thought about backing it more than once in the way up because of the inclines and sharp turns. I was pleasantly surprised that I didn’t have to be a Tour de France cyclist to handle it coming down!
Fun bike ride, pretty much all downhill so not a ton of exercise, but a beautiful ride. Our guide Remi was great. The brakes worked well on the bikes but would have liked for them to have at least a couple of gears for the few times we went uphill. You pedaled and went nowhere, like less than first gear. Really fun experience though.
A great opportunity to see beautiful scenery while riding. Lizzy was a great driver and was very knowledgable. I plan on doing this again the next time we visit your beautiful Island.
Beautiful ride down a VOLCANO! Awesome guides, comfy bikes, & all the gear. It was fun to have about an hour to stop for lunch in Makawao. Highly recommend—rain or shine. The views!
In the description that we had read on Viator, it seemed that we could cycle all the way down, but we do have to stop and get picked up by the van and then take him to another drop off spot midway through. This had something to do with the residence not being able to get past bikers and different frustrations of how bikers were trading residents' properties in the past.. It was still fun, but do be aware that you won't be cycling all the way down. Justin was great as a guide, and Remy provided an excellent tutorial on staying safe. I found this particularly helpful cuz it's been awhile since I've been on the bike.
This is a Very Simple St., Ford. Amazing thing to do the guide gives a very informative talk on the drive up the mountain then you come down the mountain as fast as you like. The bicycles are very safe. Good quality in the breaking feel secure so at any level, you would enjoy this. Our guide Remi and the entire staff, quite frankly, were great!!
This is an amazing mountain bike trip down the Haleakala Volcano! Matthias was our guide & was very knowledgeable. He educated us on everything that we passed (land, homes, businesses) & gave us great lunch recommendations. Wear a jacket & gloves!
This was fast and fun. I wish we could have gone into the volcano park. We were able to go at our own pace and stop for eats. It's worth doing once

Great group of staff. We had a great time and learned a lot along the way. I am not sure what else to say but you need to try it.
The ride is in 2 separate segments and is not from the top to the bottom. It’s nice that you can go at your own pace.

Just to clarify for future guests, the ride is now structured in separate segments due to Maui County regulations updated in 2023. These changes were put in place to improve safety by removing the highway portion of the ride — the section with higher speeds, heavier traffic, and little to no shoulder. Over time, increased population, traffic volume, and road wear made that stretch less suitable for commercial bike tours.
This format is still the only way to legally experience a Haleakalā downhill tour, as all operators must follow the same county rules. You’re still getting a beautiful, extended downhill ride through multiple climate zones — just in a way that prioritizes safety.

It was a fun experience. Be sure to take a jacket for morning rides. Consider gloves. Remy did a great job and gave a lot of info about Maui.
This is a fun ride even for a scaredy cat like myself. It is so fun! My family wanted to do it 12 year old and 19 year old children with my husband. The bikes are amazing! Ron was our tour guide and he gave us the history of the area too. Top notch! So fun!

You do not start at the summit and are not allowed to bike through Kula so when you ride it is only a short time of actual riding before you have to load in a van again. After the beak it is another short ride to a small town you can eat at then another short ride to the finish. Also in between the two legs of the trip you have to deal with road work and ride around heavy equipment. This is a little stressful and does take away from the experience. The employees are excellent and the views are amazing, just not a lot of them. With the ride broken up so much it was a little unfulfilling for the price. I gave 3 stars for the employees not the value of trip. If there is road work I would ask for discount up front.
What fun this was!!! You can bomb down Haleakala, or you can take your sweet time and stop to take a million photos. Do it anyway you want, but it’s all a great down hill.
Easy ride down the mountain. Great customer service and helpful hints. Any experience level works since you go at your own speed.
Thrilling ride down Haleakala. 95% of the ride is steering and coasting with 5% being a demanding up hill climb. Our whole family (including teenage boys) very much enjoyed the experience and recommend it. Neat little town to explore on the way down too.
The actual bike riding experience was great.
My experience with Viator was not. Viator did not send me the address of where to meet.
I tried logging on using the email I used to sign up and it would not work. It would send me an email to sign in without a password and then would tell me the email was incorrect. That was false because I received confirmation of the booking. We looked it up online and found an address for pickup at Baldwin. But nobody was there. I got a hold of someone at Viator on the phone which the phone number is very hard to find on the website as well. Had to google that too. We learned we were two minutes away from the correct address by doing more google searching super inconvenient and stressful. Not aloha style.
