This is an all day excursion but totally worth it. The food and snacks were delicious and it's a lot safer than driving yourself. You learn a lot and get to see everything. Charlie, our tour guide, was a lot of fun, knowledgeable and took great photos! We had a wonderful time.

The small group road to Hana tour with Mahalo Tours was excellent. Our tour guide was Larry and he was awesome! He was so knowledgeable about Maui and all of Hawaii. It was amazing how many types of flowers and vegetation he pointed out to us as well as historical facts. Larry was very engaging and it was obvious that he enjoys his jobs. He was personable and really “made” the trip. The tour was all that it was advertised to be. We saw SO much beauty. I would highly recommend this tour and ask for Larry!

Excellent Road to Hana Tour with Glenn! Glenn was an amazing tour guide . The excursion description was spot on.

Road to Hana Amenaties

Rickey_B, Jul 2026
Glenn the driver I would give 5 stars. Exceptional driver. Bathrooms were terrible, no toilet paper, full toilets where there were one and porta potties for the rest. For a tour as beautiful as Maui do better.

Road to Hana - a great experience!

Our tour guide, Thomas, was amazing! He was so knowledgeable and made the trip fun! He knew all of the best stops for the best views, food and dips in the water. I highly recommend this excursion to Hana!

Tom and Charlotte’s adventure

Thomas_D, Jul 2026
We had a fabulous adventure. Great tour guide named Adam. We saw lots of waterfalls, black sand beach, red sand beach and many other places. I’m glad we did the tour instead of driving it ourselves. I would not have been able to enjoy it if I was driving.

A Definite Must-Do

Kelly_W, Jun 2026
Definitely a great idea to take the road to Hana with an experienced tour guide! The switchbacks and the beautiful scenery would have made it difficult for an inexperienced traveler to navigate. Jerry, our driver/guide, was a great! He was knowledgeable and personable - made sure we all got questions answered and needs met. Only hiccup was a delay in our pickup due to an accident on the road and some guests being late to their pickup but that is not the fault of Maholo Tours at all. They were texting me updates as to their ETA and even the driver called to apologize and give me his arrival time. Great trip! I highly recommend!

Not worth it, you can do the your on your own

Anne_R, Jun 2026
We picked this tour because it was small- 6 to 8 people and we got picked up from our hotel. Unfortunately our pickup was at 712 am and then we drove to a spot and waited 45 minutes for other customers. We didn’t get on the round until almost 845. I called from the van to complain and the company said it was my fault I picked a bad day. Once the tour started, we were behind the traffic. We had several stops and always seemed to be waiting for someone to get back to the van or stopping for the bathroom. The best place is the black sand beach and we only got 1 hour there which is not enough time if you want to swim. You really don’t do anything in Hana but drive through and turn around. The only saving grace was the tour guide Adam was excellent. Patient, kind and very informative. I would not take this tour. Overpriced for a “ride” and you have to follow the group. I would either rent a car for the day and drive yourself. If you do, go online and get a reservation to stop at the black sand beach. If you don’t want to drive, I would do a private tour with your group only. There are several to choose from.

Mahalo Tours was Great

Julie_P, Jun 2026
Enjoyed our Road to Hana today. Our driver, Larry, was so knowledgeable about Hawaiian culture. His narration was interesting and never boring. He was delightful, a safe driver and a great storyteller - a true Hawaiian Encyclopedia!! Food and snacks were good. I highly recommend Mahalo Tours. We chose the “small group” tour. This certainly made it a more enjoyable experience.

Do NOT use Viator or Mahalo Tours

yuricjohnson, Jun 2026
I was racially profiled by a white tour guide and mistreated in front of the entire group as a solo black female traveler! I was told that talking in the van was not something amenable with the tour guide. I had to spend over 8 hours feeling incredibly unsafe, disrespected and not cared for at all! I did not want to be left over an hour from my Airbnb so I sucked the behavior up. Viator refuses to issue my refund and is completely downplaying how this all happened. From the time I walked up to the van, I was made to the stand in the rain to check in. Once in the van, I was asked “if I wanted to share my life story with everyone in the van” because I was having a low toned conversation with another patron in the van. I was made to feel that because of my race and my gender, I needed to be quiet. The other patron was a white woman and was not at all scorned for having a conversation. I was not over talking the tour guide nor was I loud so I don’t understand why I couldn’t engage in a simple conversation while we were driving to our destination. These one off experiences have a way of becoming the fault of the patron and not the tour company but I beg you, if you are SOLO, FEMALE AND BLACK, do NOT use Viator or Mahalo Tours for any tour experiences. It isn’t worth the hassle and poor experience whatsoever.

Response from Host, Jun 2026

Aloha We are very surprised that you felt racially profiled. We know that nothing that we say will change your mind, but we strongly reject your allegations. We would like to go through your complaint point by point. It was raining lightly when we were picking up passengers. We are not sure what exactly you expected us to do about that. Every single passenger on the tour had to stand outside to wait for the van and wait to load. You were not singled out in any way. Both you and the other female passenger you were speaking with were asked to “keep it down” so that the driver could be heard by the group. The reason was because the international couple onboard were unable to hear him and had taken him aside to request that he bring it up. Neither you nor she were happy with the request, yet only you have decided that it was personally motivated. Viator conducted their own investigation because of the seriousness of the allegations. The reason that Viator refused your request for a refund was because the international couple who asked the driver to speak out provided a statement to that fact, proving that you were not racially singled out. Lastly, we would like you to know that your accusations were highly offensive to the driver due to the fact that he is married to an African American woman and has half-black children. He vigorously denies that he would ever treat someone in a way that he would not find acceptable for his own family. He is one of our highly reviewed tour guide and valued employee. Mahalo tours.

Best way to go

Our Driver Charlie was great!! Bus was very large for the 8 passengers. Lunch was hot and fantastic. Would travel with this company again.

Amazing Trip and Guide

Ramona_B, May 2026
Glen was our driver and guide and he was amazing. He was extremely knowledgeable about Maui, and Hana specifically. We learned so much about all the plants, animals, history and Hawaiian stories and he was funny. My mother is almost 80 and he took special care to make sure she was comfortable and doing well. The food was great and we enjoyed each of the stops with including the waterfall pools, black sand beach and the red sand beach. We would highly recommend Glen and this tour!

Tom was an excellent guide. The tour stopped at places we would not have known about had we driven on our own. Everything ran like clockwork. So many snacks were provided. Our favorite stop was the black sand beach where we could hike and then cool off in the water! We saw huge sea turtles slumbering on the beach.

Road to Hana is a must see!

Rosemary_H, Apr 2026
Great all-day excursion traveling to Hana - this part of the island is beautiful but not sure I would want to drive the local road on my own! Great to have a knowledgeable tour guide to share his knowledge of the sites and some Hawaiian history including cultural folklore.

Great experience

It’s worth it to book a tour! You get a skilled driver who knows all the history. A lot of fun beautiful stops! Glen our driver was great!

Great Day!

Karen_M, Apr 2026
Great day! Ed was a terrific guide - he kept our van on the road and us entertained with lots of interesting information. Our tour wasn't able to go around the island, since a bridge was out, but we got to see the Road to Hana twice. Such a beautiful place!

Trip was ok not to exiting, the way driver was telling us story, can’t under stand half of it

Vishakha_P, Mar 2026
Tour is kind of Expensive, some excursions was close they should give some money back , driver was nice but the way he was taking n telling stories can’t here him proper, he give fruit n snack at most of stop , black sand beach was close he could have take on other stop like Hanauma bay , he say he can’t go their we stop to some water fall on way back , he did not stop when we are on way

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Aloha Mahalo for your review. Hanauma Bay Is on another island (Oahu) Waiʻānapanapa black sand beach (Maui) was close for a week for clean up because of the Maui flood, we advised every passenger via Viator’s email system of the closure and gave them the opportunity to cancel without penalty. Everything else was open and we made extra stops to compensate for the closure. I do apologize for the inconvenience. Mahalo

Beautiful Views and so many sights to see

Wonderful excursion with so many sights to see. Exceptional views and scenery. Louie was a fantastic guide and very knowledgeable. Hands down the best guide we've had. His driving on those narrow roads was exceptional.

Dale_O, Mar 2026
Beautiful scenery, not to be missed. As a passenger, I was able to enjoy the experience that I could not as a driver.

Don’t discount th importance of traveling in comfort - it’s a long tour and the vehicle matters!

Terrill_S, Mar 2026
The views were spectacular and the driver was very good. The van we spent hours driving in, however, left much to be desired. It was crowded and the seats were not at all comfortable. The step that you use to get in and out of the van very very narrow - perhaps it was partially broken off- and many had difficulty or slipped a bit getting in and out of the van - and you do that often. Every time the driver went to open the door to let us in it out it took multiple times as it would be stuck. The breakfast pastries and fruit were laughable. Thank goodness for the views and congenial driver. Otherwise, for the price, and compared to the other vans etc we saw on the tour, I would be very upset. I’ll have to chalk this up to experience and choose another provider on the future.

Response from Host, Apr 2026

Aloha Mr. Sanchez, Mahalo for your view on your recent Road to Hana Tour with us. Please see our responses below: Breakfast We state on Viator’s site: our “Continental” breakfast includes pastries baked here on Maui in tropical flavors and fresh grown Maui fruit.” It is provided at different stops during the beginning of the tour to keep passengers from feeling nauseous due to the multiple curves / turns. Maybe we differ on the definition of continental breakfast. I do apologize. Bus The bus is only 9 months old. The running board on the bus is the standard factory Ford Transit running board. Yes, it was wet, in the rainforest and it becomes somewhat slick. Most companies doing the Hana tour use the same exact Ford Transit vans with the same Factory installed running boards. Crowded We only take 8 passengers and all our buses are 14 passenger capacity so I’m not sure how this would be crowded. All the other companies maximize every seat and call it a small group tour. I’m not sure how it would be crowded with 6 empty seats. The width of the bus is standard for all vans/buses made by Ford and Mercedes Benz which are used for Tours and transportation I’m not sure how to respond. We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We feel we fulfilled the tour that we described and advertised. Mahalo Tours

Awesome Road to Hana Tour

Yolanda_W, Mar 2026
This was such an awesome experience. Our driver Adam was an absolute pleasure. He told us about the history of each stop and those along the way. We were provided breakfast and a delicious Huli Huli chicken lunch from Uncle Russell’s. We also had water and snacks. The views and history were breathtaking. I’d recommend this tour to anyone who wants to take the road and doesn’t want to drive. You get to take in the sights and enjoy your day.
