Great day! Ed was a terrific guide - he kept our van on the road and us entertained with lots of interesting information. Our tour wasn't able to go around the island, since a bridge was out, but we got to see the Road to Hana twice. Such a beautiful place!

The small group road to Hana tour with Mahalo Tours was excellent. Our tour guide was Larry and he was awesome! He was so knowledgeable about Maui and all of Hawaii. It was amazing how many types of flowers and vegetation he pointed out to us as well as historical facts. Larry was very engaging and it was obvious that he enjoys his jobs. He was personable and really “made” the trip. The tour was all that it was advertised to be. We saw SO much beauty. I would highly recommend this tour and ask for Larry!

Great all-day excursion traveling to Hana - this part of the island is beautiful but not sure I would want to drive the local road on my own! Great to have a knowledgeable tour guide to share his knowledge of the sites and some Hawaiian history including cultural folklore.

Aloha
Mahalo for your review. Hanauma Bay Is on another island (Oahu) Waiʻānapanapa black sand beach (Maui) was close for a week for clean up because of the Maui flood, we advised every passenger via Viator’s email system of the closure and gave them the opportunity to cancel without penalty. Everything else was open and we made extra stops to compensate for the closure. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

Beautiful scenery, not to be missed. As a passenger, I was able to enjoy the experience that I could not as a driver.
Don’t discount th importance of traveling in comfort - it’s a long tour and the vehicle matters!
Terrill_S, Mar 2026
The views were spectacular and the driver was very good. The van we spent hours driving in, however, left much to be desired.
It was crowded and the seats were not at all comfortable. The step that you use to get in and out of the van very very narrow - perhaps it was partially broken off- and many had difficulty or slipped a bit getting in and out of the van - and you do that often.
Every time the driver went to open the door to let us in it out it took multiple times as it would be stuck.
The breakfast pastries and fruit were laughable.
Thank goodness for the views and congenial driver. Otherwise, for the price, and compared to the other vans etc we saw on the tour, I would be very upset.
I’ll have to chalk this up to experience and choose another provider on the future.
Response from Host, Apr 2026
Aloha Mr. Sanchez,
Mahalo for your view on your recent Road to Hana Tour with us.
Please see our responses below:
Breakfast
We state on Viator’s site: our “Continental” breakfast includes pastries baked here on Maui in tropical flavors and fresh grown Maui fruit.” It is provided at different stops during the beginning of the tour to keep passengers from feeling nauseous due to the multiple curves / turns.
Maybe we differ on the definition of continental breakfast. I do apologize.
Bus
The bus is only 9 months old. The running board on the bus is the standard factory Ford Transit running board. Yes, it was wet, in the rainforest and it becomes somewhat slick. Most companies doing the Hana tour use the same exact Ford Transit vans with the same Factory installed running boards.
Crowded
We only take 8 passengers and all our buses are 14 passenger capacity so I’m not sure how this would be crowded. All the other companies maximize every seat and call it a small group tour. I’m not sure how it would be crowded with 6 empty seats. The width of the bus is standard for all vans/buses made by Ford and Mercedes Benz which are used for Tours and transportation I’m not sure how to respond.
We are sorry that we did not meet your expectations. We feel we fulfilled the tour that we described and advertised.

Awesome Road to Hana Tour
Yolanda_W, Mar 2026
This was such an awesome experience. Our driver Adam was an absolute pleasure. He told us about the history of each stop and those along the way. We were provided breakfast and a delicious Huli Huli chicken lunch from Uncle Russell’s. We also had water and snacks. The views and history were breathtaking. I’d recommend this tour to anyone who wants to take the road and doesn’t want to drive. You get to take in the sights and enjoy your day.

It is an experience! Our driver was “bruddah Louie”. At first, was not quite sure about him. He talked a lot about himself and how he lived on Maui. Louis did have a lot of good information. As the day went on, we realized he has a heart for Hawaii and all people. He would stop and share some of our snacks with the road crews, always having a cheerful word to say. His prayer for our lunch was filled with thanks and meaning! Needless to say, by the end of the tour, we were FANS! The road itself is a blend of inexpressible beauty and also danger! Am so glad there are guardrails on both sides. Louis gave us insights into the people and celebrities who live along the way. It is something we will long remember!
Another great Viator tour!

It was a most beautiful ride along the coast line and through the mountains. Our tour guide was very informative, took care of us and fed us well. I would definitely recommend this tour. However, if you tend to get car sick, it is a very windy road.

Ask for Ilona. She is born and raised in Hana. We had the best tour with her personal touch. Felt like family. The sights are beautiful but her information and insider information made it special. Our lunch was at Uncle Russell's huli huli chicken shack and that was delicious. Ilona knows everyone and that personal touch made our tour, right down to the big hug at the end. Highly recommend.

Awesome!
This tour was fantastic! Our guide, Adam, was knowledgeable, professional, and amiable. He had the perfect personality for this job. Adam answered the questions we asked. He added his personal experiences, without making the tour about himself. He also made sure all our needs were fulfilled. We saw indescribable beauty, on our way to Hana and as we arrived to the park. It was breathtaking! This experience is by far one of the best we had on our trip to Hawaii!

Our guide Larry was fantastic. Very knowledgeable about all the wonderful places we visited. He knew so much important things had shared them well. The only negative part of the tour was that we weren’t able to visit all the places on the itinerary due to road closures.
Loved the sites but long in van.

Fantastic!

Just magnificent! Louis was an exceptional guide and absolutely hilarious. I could have spent another day with him, he was that amazing. We saw all of the major sites. He was not pushy about time. He encouraged us to take long walks along the beach and he would just pick us up where we ended. He explained the history of Hawaii and Maui so eloquently. I will tell all of my friends and family that come to Maui to book this tour with Louis, that’s how incredible he is.
Fabulous

Only negative was we were expecting a Continental Breakfast, but received a pastry several minutes into the trip. Had we known that, definitely would have eaten something before coming. Other than that, everything was really nice.
