Our tour guide, Sonia, was wonderful! She was very informative, easy to talk to and took us on the best food tour! Great food at wonderful local restaurants. Highly recommend her!
Great tour! Knowledgable guide. This is the best way to get the best food and have an amazing experience.
Pedro was an amazing guide!!! He took us on a tantalizing tour that not only taught us some history of this beautiful city, but we also enjoyed some local hidden culinary gems! Thank you so much for a wonderful experience. Pedro you are the best!!
I did the 10 tastings and everything was delicious. I even tried codfish for the very first time. At first I thought it was going to be a problem because the host, Peter, was not at our meeting point. After speaking with Peter, he mentioned that I was not on the schedule even though I had received a confirmation. However, Peter was able to run the tour regardless.
He is very knowledgeable about the history of Lisbon and took us to some great places to eat and drink.
I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon. If you want to experience authentic local food while learning about the city's rich history, this is an experience you won't want to miss.
An excellent evening with Padro. Our family of 5 met (kids 17, 13, and 13) had no problem meeting up with him. He was funny, knowledgeable and knew amazing spots for our 6 food stops. One of us was allergic to shellfish and we had a picky kid however this did not hinder the experience! This was our first day in Lisbon and was a great way to start our trip!
This was a great activity to visit local restaurants and sample authentic Portuguese food. Our guide, Andy was fantastic and shared history of the various dishes and Portugal! I would highly recommend this tour.
Great food stops that we would have never found on our own. The tour guide was helpful and went above and beyond just a food tour of the city. Would recommend the 10 item choice. The Clams were my favorite.
Fantastic guide and tour! Sonia was very knowledgeable and nice to work with, and she took us to the coolest spots that we would not have found otherwise.
Elisa was an amazing guide for our 6 tastings foodie tour! She reached out to me several days ahead of time to introduce herself and to make a specific meeting plan. She was very personable and likable, and knowledgeable about the foods and beverages we tasted during the tour. She also added so much to the tour by giving us some history and background of the area as we walked to the different restaurants. And, importantly, the foods were so delicious! I would recommend Elisa and this tour to anyone visiting Lisbon!
Carlos was wonderful. He shared his extensive knowledge on Lisbon as well as historical information on Portugal 🇵🇹. The food was delicious and he was able to tailor for no beef or pork.
Thank you, Carlos.
Alphe (our guide) was very knowledgeable about Portuguese history, culture, food & wine. He was also a lovely person. I liked the fresh sardines we tried as it was something I had wanted to try. However, I wish that we would’ve visited more places (we only went to two restaurants + one bakery to have paste de nada, which we’d already had), and the food we had was just average (& wasn’t enough!).
Response from Host, Jul 2026
Dear Guest,
It's wonderful to hear that Alphe made such a warm impression, and we will absolutely pass your kind words on to him. His passion for Portuguese history, culture and food is exactly what a Withlocals experience should feel like.
We are sorry the food itself did not live up to expectations. The tastings should feel genuinely exciting and leave you satisfied, and we hear you that this time they fell short of that. Your feedback will be shared with Alphe directly so he can continue to refine the experience.
Lisbon has such an extraordinary food scene and we hope you still left with a taste for it. We would love to welcome you back one day for a tour that truly does it justice.
Kind Regards,
The Withlocals Team
The tour was AMAZING. We walked from the hotel, UPHILL a considerable amount to get to the meeting point. The benefit of starting at one of the highest points in the city is that the entire tour was walking downhill!! Our guide was engaging, enthusiastic and personable. She took us to local places with less than 10 tables each, exactly the local feel we were hoping for. Each stop included wines and foods local to the area, again perfect for our group of 8 world travelers. We had plenty of time at each stop to enjoy the location, foods and beverages, and relax a bit before a leisurely stroll to the next stop. While the total tour was several hours, the vast majority of the time is spend in local places enjoying the wines and foods.
Overall, this was a fantastic experience that was well worth the investment.
Joao, our guide was fantastic. We took the tour on Independence Day, so most of the restaurants he usually took travelers to were too full so the second tier restaurants were open but meh. Joao gave us a great tour of the city which introduced to Lisbon.
It was a great introduction to food in Lisbon and the guide was very nice! The food was delicious I enjoyed it.
The food was delicious, Sonia was lovely, and it was a very enjoyable walking tour of downtown. Perfect introduction to Lisbon!
This was one of the best tours. Advise…..go with an empty stomach. We had the opportunity to taste so many different foods and all of them were absolutely delicious. I would do this again if I could. Our guide Elisa was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and helpful. She has an amazing energy!!!!
Our tour with Elisa was wonderful. She was very fun to talk to and knew the best places for great food.
Cecilia was amazing! Knowledgeable about the food and history of Lisbon, she provided a wonderfully contextual experience. Can’t wait to tour with her again!
TERRIBLE!
Done many food tours all over world and this one is by far the worst. Entire family left hungry and went to restaurant to eat after. Unacceptable for paying almost $100/ person
Here is what we received:
Restaurant 1 - 1 wine, olives, bread, cheese, salad, cold cut meat plate. Kitchen was closed at place but after we complained we did get 1 cooked sausage to split between the 4 of us
Location 2- stopped at pastry shop for small dessert
Location 3- 1 shot of Jinja.
That’s it. 10 courses were really at best 8 of nothing but appetizers.
I called to complain with Viator and they did nothing for us and acted like this was normal. Even after I told them about all the other food tours we have done
SO don’t do this tour unless you want to leave hungry
Response from Host, Feb 2026
Dear John,
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We understand how disappointing it must have felt to leave the tour still hungry, especially when you were expecting a more substantial experience for your family and had invested a significant amount in the booking.
We’d like to clarify that this experience is designed as a tastings tour, meaning it focuses on sampling a variety of local flavors and drinks across several stops rather than serving full meals at each location. That said, the overall experience should still feel satisfying and well balanced, and we understand why it felt underwhelming to you.
We appreciate you sharing such detailed feedback. It helps highlight how important it is that expectations around tastings, pacing, and value are clear and well delivered during the experience.
Kind regards,
The Withlocals Team
Great time, hidden gems, learned so much about the city at the same time. our guide Jaoa was perfect!
What an awesome experience with Rodrigo! He was very hospital, a great person to chat with, answered every question , and showed us some amazing meals. Would highly recommend him to anyone coming to Lisbon.
Ana’s food tour was a highlight of our time in Lisbon. She blended history, culture, and incredible local flavors in a way that felt both authentic and fun. Every stop was thoughtful, the tastings were generous, and Ana made the whole experience feel personal and welcoming. Highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to truly experience Lisbon through its food
Tour was cancelled by the guide and clearly not communicated to Viator and therefore, not to us. We waited in the cold breeze for 35 minutes for our tour guide to appear and finally received a text stating she was not available from her, not from viator.
I did use the text option to ask customer service about the status and no one got back to me in a timely manner.
Would I use Viator as a tour aggregator again? I'm not sure. I think there are benefits to having a platform for small groups to use for managing tours, but perhaps it is better to go straight to the source/tour company.
Our time in Lisbon was short, and this was planned as a highlight to learn more about the food and get to know the city better, so it is extra disappointing.
Response from Host, Nov 2025
Dear Nazila,
Thank you for taking the time to share what happened. We are truly sorry for the frustration and disappointment you experienced in Lisbon. Waiting in the cold for your guide, only to receive a last moment message directly from them, is not the experience we want for any of our guests.
Your guide had to cancel unexpectedly, but the cancellation should have been communicated clearly and on time so you were not left waiting. We completely understand how upsetting this must have felt, especially with limited time in the city and looking forward to this tour as one of the highlights of your trip.
We also hear your concerns about the delay in communication through Viator. When plans change so suddenly, timely updates make a world of difference, and we are sorry this was not your experience.
Thank you again for sharing your thoughts. Your feedback helps us improve how we coordinate with both our hosts and partners to avoid situations like this in the future.
Kind regards,
The Withlocals Team
Our guide Peter took us on a culinary and historical journey through Lisbon. We enjoyed the restaurants he took us to and also other favorite food spots that were near where we went. The tour was very interesting and informative.
Tour guide Lucia had a delightful personality. She explained each food clearly. Walked us around Lisbon to out of the way places. I would take this tour again.
Our food tour with Alfredo was just perfect. His attention to detail and desire to deliver a great service was genuine and much appreciated.
Ann was the most friendly and informative host for our walking food tour of Lisbon. Be ready to get some steps in and eat some of the best food in Lisbon. We’ll definitely book with Ann when we return!
Our guide, Alfredo, was very knowledgeable about Portuguese history and was very enthusiastic about sharing Lisbon with us. The 6 tastings tour was 2 hours and included 2 stops.
Great experience. Andre was an amazing tour guide, who gave us interesting insights from the history of Portugal and traditional culinary culture.
Although the tour was enjoyable, we felt it was a bit disorganised for the cost. We got lots of information about food, but when we arrived to try, it was closed. This happened a few times.
Response from Host, Aug 2025
Hello,
Thank you for your review and for letting us know about your experience. While we’re happy to hear you enjoyed parts of the tour, we’re very sorry that the organization and timing of the food stops fell short of expectations, especially considering the cost. We understand how frustrating it must have been to arrive at places that were closed, and we’ll make sure this feedback is shared with our local team to improve planning and coordination so future guests can fully enjoy the food experiences as intended.
Happy travels!
