This was a wonderful experience. There are not enough superlatives! Marta was a fantastic tour leader... knowledgeable, considerate, bright and funny... we could not have asked for more. She guided us through Portuguese and Lisbon history through food and wine...and left us only wanting more.

Great experience with Antonio on the Sunday Belem tour! Great variety of foods and decent portions. We had 10 people so it was a great size. We also likely wouldn’t have explored Belem without this tour and were glad we did.

The food part was great but the drink part lacked. Only 2 drinks, very small pours were given over the course of the 4 hours. I would recommend adding more drinks to go with the food. The giuide was amazing.

Our standard tour package includes Porto wine, Verde wine, and water along the way, while guests looking for a more beverage focused experience also have the option to add our drinks upgrade for additional pairings throughout the tour. The 1 rating was 100% due to incompetence of the tour organizer; the actual tour by Tony was a solid 3-4. I’ve taken many tours through Viator and they are usually excellent. However, two weeks before this tour, I received written notice from Viator customer service that my 11am tour was being rescheduled to 12pm due to an issue with a vendor. I accepted the new start time and it was confirmed. On the tour day, I received a text at 11:10am asking why I was late for my tour! I sent them a copy of the email with the next time and they acted surprised and said “We’ll try to get you on the next tour”!! Finally they rescheduled me, only to then send me to the wrong meeting point. I questioned the Secret Food Tours rep that their own info they sent listed a different meeting point, but they said that’s incorrect and they’d fix it. As it turns out, the listed meeting point on their confirmation document was correct; however, since I was told to ignore that and go to a different meeting point, I was late for that tour also!! This whole comedy of errors could’ve been avoided with proper communication between Viator and Secret Food Tours. Instead, what should have been a relaxing, fun food tour turned out to be a stressful situation. Finally, when I asked how to make a formal complaint about this, I was not given any information. This is extremely concerning as we place our trust of our holiday/tour experience in a tour operator and expect reliable, high integrity service in return.
The tour itself was adequate. My prior experiences with Viator tour guides have been 10/10 in many countries. Tony admitted he is just new to the food tour guide scene and is learning. Also, his English and communication skills will improve with time. He is a nice guy who means well!

Hi Ed, we’re saddened by how your experience started off. What happened was a miscommunication between our team and Viator after one of our regular vendors had to close unexpectedly. We adjusted the tour time and meeting point to make sure all tastings were still included, but clearly, the updated details didn’t reach you correctly. We do understand how frustrating it must have been to show up ready for your tour, only to be met with confusion about the time and location.
We’ve already reviewed what went wrong and tightened up our coordination with Viator to make sure this doesn’t happen again. We’ve also processed a partial refund to acknowledge the inconvenience you went through.
As for the tour itself, Tony has been a professional guide for over seven years and recently joined our Secret Food Tours family. Since then, he’s received wonderful feedback from guests who appreciate his friendly approach and passion for sharing local food culture. We can tell this stressful start set the tone for the rest of the day, which is a shame because our Lisbon tour is usually a highlight for guests visiting the city.
Still, we appreciate you sharing this with us. Your feedback helps us keep improving and make sure every guest has the smooth, enjoyable experience we’re known for. If your travels bring you back to Lisbon or any of our other cities, we’d love the chance to welcome you again.

Marta was one of the most knowledgeable guides we have had in any tour. She knows so much history and tied that in with every dish we tried. We all had so much fun with her…even our teenagers were engaged and had a great time. The dishes were truly secret and she gave tips on how to navigate the hilly streets…secret elevators! We were a group of 10 ages 14-80 and we all loved it! Highly recommend

Had a great time with Maddie. She was a gracious hostess who gave us an enlightening overview of the Lisbon area and treated us to fabulous tasty delicacies. Great variety in her choices, from a delicious port to the traditional pastry 9pro tips on cinnamon and caramelization). We now have a new respect for the endless possibilities of salted cod and tinned fish..a delightful and tasty introduction to Portugal,cuisine. Easy walking pace that nevertheless covered local sites.Highly recommend this tour.

The guide Wanda was phenomenal. She was informative, kind and funny. The tour itself was not the value that we thought we had paid. For some reason, some people got more alcoholic drinks than us because they paid extra which they said was an option and we never saw that. We didn't feel that the food was as Varied as we would have liked which we had on other food tours in Lisbon. We thought we would get smaller portions at more restaurants to try more things. It felt like tour company or viator was just trying to make money on us and not give us the value of the tour. Very disappointing but the guide was phenomenal. Not worth the price we paid

On the other hand, we’d like to address a few of the points you raised. In terms of the drinks, we do offer an upgraded drinks package that provides guests with additional alcoholic beverages, which is available as an option when booking directly through our website. Since you booked through Viator, this add-on is not presented during the booking process due to limitations on their site. We’re currently working on making this clearer to guests who book through third-party platforms. The drinks package is something many guests who opt for it enjoy, so we understand why it might have felt uneven if it wasn’t available to you.
As for the variety of food items, our goal has always been to showcase the heart of Lisbon’s culinary culture - from beloved classics to hidden gems that represent the authentic flavors of the city. We carefully curate our stops and dishes to ensure a well-rounded and manageable experience within the time frame of the tour. That said, we do recognize that you expected more variety and more stops. We typically receive rave reviews for our selection and quality of dishes presented on our tours, but your feedback is valuable as we constantly work to balance pacing, dish variety, and the overall flow of our tour.
While we regret that our Lisbon tour didn’t fully meet your expectations in terms of value, we hope that Vanda’s guidance and the tastes of Lisbon you did experience gave you a deeper appreciation for the city’s culinary traditions.

This fantastic tour started with a wonderful aperitif and ended with a delicious pastel de nata. Between the first and last tastings we walked to various places for a taste of the food that Lisbon has to offer, and all of it was delicious! As we walked throughout the city, Vanda, our tour guide, provided us with interesting historical tidbits about the food, wine, the neighborhoods that we walked through, and the beautiful city of Lisbon. Vanda was very informative, gave excellent recommendations, and has an great sense humor! Before we knew it, the 3 hour tour was over! Vanda's advice and recommendations were very useful during the rest of our stay in Lisbon. Highly recommend.

We had a fantastic walking foodie tour yesterday. Our guide sheparded us through port wine tasting, tapas and traditional Portuguese food sampling and then to a special desert cafe. Between stops he provided us with historical highlights of Lisboa and Portugal. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

Good tour overall. Kind of slow paced for us, but we had some slower walkers in the group. The food was ok. We have done secret food tours in the past and enjoyed them more. There was an option for an upgrade to have some extra drinks that we were not offered in our booking through Viator. I would have definitely asked for this upgrade. The wine/alcohol pours were very small and not full pours at any of the stops.

On the other hand, we regret that some aspects of our tour didn't meet your expectations. Our tours are designed to offer a comprehensive taste of Lisbon's culinary scene, which sometimes means a bit of walking and standing - especially in a city known for its beautiful, hilly landscape. We understand that this can be challenging, especially when having to catch up to your tour group for failing to arrive at our designated start point on time. On our tour, we walk a total of two miles - grabbing an elevator to make the hill easier. In the end, there’s barely walking uphill. We’ve had no complaints with regard to the walk and we have thousands of five star reviews to support this. We’re sorry yours is not one of them.
As for our pricing, our goal has always been to provide a high-quality experience that includes a variety of delicious tapas, local wines, and insights into Lisbon's food culture. Many of our guests appreciate the value of our tour, but we understand that it might not be the same for everyone. We will certainly take your feedback into consideration as we continue to refine our tours.
