What To Expect

Make your way to the cookery school in central Lisbon, and greet your small group and professional chef. Wash your hands, don your apron and find out what’s on the menu.

During this hands-on experience, prepare a 3-course meal including a fish dish, meat dish, and dessert. Under the guidance of your chef, learn basic techniques and prepare ingredients integral to Portuguese cuisine. Taste premium samples of olive oil and wine, and learn about Portuguese culinary traditions as you cook.

When your 3-course feast is ready, take a seat among fellow foodies and enjoy the fruits of your labor. Relish the satisfaction of eating a meal you prepared and leave the cookery class with fresh cooking inspiration.

This was amazing. We made several dishes and a dessert. We got to keep the apron. Met some other wonderful travellers and I learned how to separate an egg and that I've been preparing garlic incorrectly in a frying pan my whole life!

Very nice time. Pedro was great. There were 15 people in the group. We all worked together and had different jobs prepping and cooking the several courses including dessert. It would have been better with less people but still a very good time. The recipes and meal was great. Plenty of wine and he shares the recipe for you to try later.

Terrific experience. We enjoyed learning how to make traditional food and Interacting with our host Ana as well as the other class participants. Very well managed and food was delicious. We’ll do another class on our next trip for sure!

It’s a great way to learn about the food in Portugal! The chef who taught was wonderful. Thorough, went over all components, then each person had a job and together we all made the entire meal! Plenty of food to go around. Great way to meet others from all over world! Highly recommend!!

I thoroughly enjoyed our cooking experience with Yvonne! She taught us several tips for cooking. Our group of 12 participated in helping to prepare the delicious meal. There was plenty to eat with lots of wine to accompany, making for a fabulous night out of wining and dining. Thank you Yvonne!

Good fun, more group-cook than cooking skills

This was a fun evening where we met some really nice people. The cooking part of it was a little different to previous courses we have been on; this is a group-cook, which generates a meal between you, rather than each cooking every course. You don’t learn the cooking skills quite so much, but do get a good overview of a number of courses. We really enjoyed it, but my expectations were of a different format. I hope this review sets yours!

Disappointed. We understood the cooking class would provide our own cooking stations to learn and cook 3 portugese dishes (1 fish, 1 meat and an appetizer). Instead, we watched the chef do all the cooking. We only participated by cutting 2-3 onions and felt the chef did not take initiative to explain what she was doing. As amateur chefs, we were looking forward to a hands on experience. This course was not as advertised or worth the $110 per person we paid. Gave 2 stars because the chef was nice and the dessert she made was ok.

Our instructor David, was very hospitable and knowledgeable. Preparing and cooking the dinner items was lots of fun. Suggest that the overall experience should be described as an introduction to Portuguese cuisine. Suggest you offer another level of class that focuses more on cooking techniques for the experienced home cook.

Tomas was a wonderful instructor! Fortunately, the class was small - an Australian couple and myself - so we were all able to equally contribute to cooking the dishes. We made delicious bacalhau a bras, chicken and chorizo in a pot, and meringue with custard. I'm glad I took the class and would recommend.

It was difficult to find the location. Chef was delightful but food disappointed. Chourico great. Beef excellent. Rice ok. But dessert disappointed as did Bacala. Have also not received the recipees. He never got our emails and went on line and could not find. Also no one there to assist and help with clean up. Participants cleaned.

This was a great experience. Tomas guided us through the recipes - a risotto, chicken in a pot and some sort of custard dessert. We had bread, olives and olive oil to start and plenty of wine. I enjoyed talking to the chef, Tomas, and the other participants. It was a memorable night out and I learned a lot about the food culture of Portugal.

Great way to spend an evening in Lisbon! The school does a wonderful job of integrating history, recipes, techniques, and social fun. The wine was free flowing and the dinner we all participated in making was delicious. We learned something about Portugal and each other. An absolutely delightful experience...

An absolutely delightful experience to learn some typical Portuguese dishes with Gonçalo Carvalheiro. He was knowledgeable, friendly and able to keep everyone cooking, learning and conversing all at the same time. From tasting for different types of olive oils to different techniques, Gonçalo was great at providing instruction and was an immense help throughout the process. Since our class group was so small 4 people total, we also had the privilege of having meaningful and intimate dinner conversations. We would recommend this for anyone that wants to learn about Portuguese cuisine, from an instructor that is serious about cooking and teaching.

Honestly I did not have a good experience with Cooking Lisbon. I booked it as a special event for my boyfriend's birthday and had specifically contacted the owner Luis beforehand to try to arrange a surprise for my boyfriend. However despise all the email communication before and the promise from Luis, Luis did not even communicate all these to the chef of the night. So I was really disappointed about nothing happened at the end of the night. You may think that this does not apply to you if you are only planning to attend the cooking class. But this gives you an idea how unorganized the company is, and how they do not deliver their promises to their customers. Overall regarding to the cooking its nothing special. Yes you get to hear about the traditional Portuguese cuisine, and the chef that was with us that night was passionate about it which I appreciated. However you really didnt get to be in part of doing anything special, and the tasks that I did that night was cutting onion and pan-fried them. The other girls in our group, one of them peeled tomato, and the other peeled the sausage.
