Mike knows his stuff and makes this tour educational; entertaining, and personal. I would highly recommended visiting Middleton Place for the beauty and the history; but please take the guided tour with Mike. He went above and beyond in accommodating our group. Also had some excellent recommendations for what to see and do and where to enjoy the best food. Being a Charlestonian for over 30 years means he has a wealth of knowledge.

We toured Middleton plantation, which to our surprise was absolutely beautiful and very enlightening! Our tour guide, Mike Frederick was fantastic! He picked us up at our hotel and showed us all the sites of the city as well as the history of Charleston while driving to and from the plantation. We would definitely recommend that you request Mike as your guide- he is great!

Mike was amazing!! He is so thoughtful and knowledgeable. He went out of his way to show us extra sights along the way. He’s hilarious and kind. We had a blast, and the plantation is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit!

The mansion was closed for renovations when we went but the grounds were fantastic. We had a private tour of the plantation along with a very informative tour of some major sites in Charleston. Our guide, Mike Frederick, could not have been nicer and was very considerate of what we wanted to see and the pace. I would not hesitate to ask for him again if we are fortunate enough to return to Charleston.

This was the best tour of the entire weekend! Mike, our world class guide, was extremely knowledgeable and charming! I would definitely recommend him and his tour. It was an overpriced experience. Tour guide charged us $125 per person to get us there and another $22 for tour inside Middleton. Definitely not worth it

The statement that I charged $125 just to get them there is not accurate. It was a three hour guided tour with hotel pickup. All Cleary spelled out on the Viator website stating that admission was not included. Once we arrive at the plantation each member of the group was given a $13 discount because they were with me - a preferred guide. Pam failed to mention that. Not sure what Pam would consider as a reasonable price for such a tour but the alternative to my tour would be for someone to find their way to the visitors center, board a bus with 25 other people and then be dropped off at the plantation for almost the same price. Finally, I'm obviously very disappointed with this review as Pam seemed to be enjoying herself and engaging during the tour. Very disappointing

I can't begin to express my delight and intrigue of having a private tour with Mike. Mike was a gentleman and truly an incredible wealth of knowledge. My day started with a call asking if he could pick me up at my hotel. Well, that was fantastic—not having to Uber. From there, he drove me to the downtown district and went into more detail than any other tours I had had at that point. He also knew some of the current owners of the homes. That was even more of a treat! We went through many areas, and we continued with a delightful dialogue that allowed for information about the area and the history of America that helped shape the state and our country. When we arrived at the Middleton plantation there was a fee to enter the park. (That is paid outside of the tour fee) Once inside, the tour guides inside the park knew and respected Mike. They speak very highly of his extensive knowledge and praised his tours. They did not overstate. I love History and more so the how’s and whys of it. When I had a question, he not only answered the question, but would elaborate with more details. He also allowed me to contribute which is not done during group tours. When other people in the park asked questions or wished to listen in, he was polite and respectful. At the end of the plantation tour we went to the gift shop. Before we headed back downtown, he inquired what food I was interested in enjoying and recommended a restaurant and dropped me off for me to continue on with my day. At the end of the tour, I was so thrilled to have chosen a guide instead of going on my own. Not a cheap day, but worth every penny. I highly recommend Mike and the tour of Middleton Plantation. When I come back to the area I would book Mikes tour again. Perhaps even learn more history.
