Easily as beautiful as any national park, Chugach State Park is a must-see for any Alaskan visitor—and Barbara Falls is one of its crown jewels. In winter, the crowds dissipate and the cascade freezes up, making for an incredible winter-wonderland experience (and spectacular photos). Just minutes away from the trailhead, this experience is suitable for all hikers, children, and anyone who can bundle up and appreciate Alaska’s great outdoors.

We meet outside the Egan Center. Please be parked and ready 15 minutes before the start time to ensure a timely departure. All tours leave no later than 5 minutes after the start time. There is no parking at the Egan Center. The JCPenney Parking Garage is the closest option, at 414 W 6th Ave.

- No experience required, but you should be able to walk at least 2 miles on flat pavement, or 2 miles of uneven rolling terrain over the course of ~ 2 hours

My wife and I joined the Winter Waterfall Walk, and it was a wonderful experience. Our guide, Matt, was friendly, professional, and very knowledgeable. He provided snowshoes for us and made sure everyone felt comfortable and safe on the trail.
The hike through the snowy forest was beautiful, and seeing Barbara Falls partially frozen in winter was truly special. Along the way, Matt shared interesting information about the different plants in the area, which made the hike both educational and enjoyable.
Overall, it was a fun and memorable winter adventure, and we highly recommend this tour.

The tour guide met us promptly at the time specified, took us on a gorgeous drive up to the Chugach mountains. Cori was extremely knowledgeable and the hike and the sights are extremely beautiful…Would absolutely recommend.

A wonderful fun walk. We got taken deep into thw woods and our guide spoke about all the nature in the area! She was fantastic. Only complaint was a small mix up in the booking. But it was quickly resolved and we had a blast!

I was so fortunate for Matthew to be the most excellent guide.
He was so knowledgeable and gave me the best guided hike I’ve been on!
The winter wonderland adventure was so picturesque and all I kept saying was WOW!
The hike was a bit challenging, as I have some injuries I’m rehabbing, but I was a champ thru it! We stopped when I needed a mini break and most of those stops were another picture taking moment!

Mike was an amazing tour guide and full of knowledge. We learned so much about the nature surroundings and the glaciers and animals. We had a blast and the hike offers many opportunities for pictures. He also provided the walking sticks and shoe spikes so you are safe l. Definitely recommend

Mike was a wonderful guide. He is very knowledgeable and I learned a lot about Alaska! He was also very helpful to make sure I warm enough and had ice spikes on my shoes to make it a safer hike. I highly recommend this hike.

If you're in Anchorage in the Fall / Winter months, you should definitely do this winter waterfall walk! Matt was so nice and very informative, telling us about the horticulture and wildlife during our hike. He also took amazing photos of the landscape and of our group. The waterfall this time of year is also gorgeous. I highly recommend!!

Informative, fun and awe inspired scenery, this tour was the perfect way to start our introduction to Alaska. Our guide (sorry I can’t remember his name) was excellent! We learned about flora and fauna along the trail as well as the surrounding mountain ranges and history of the area. After the long cramped plane ride to get here a good stretch of the legs was welcome. We also learned photography tricks with our IPhones…he was really a wealth of knowledge. Amazing tour, thank you!

Barbara Waterfall in the Eagle River area in March is beautiful as there is still ice and snow but also plenty of water, the combination making for great pictures. The hike on the light snow covered trail is not strenuous and the more observant hiker will spot plenty to enjoy, even if not quite yet Spring

I loved the hiking! The views were amazing and I loved that I was able to see some parts of the river frozen and the waterfall was amazing and impressive, and even though it was partially frozen, I loved it cause I got to see the best of both sides, the waterfall with running water and also a part of it frozen. It was just perfect!

Leah and Isiah were amazing nature guides! They guided us through some very pretty areas of the park. We were able to see a moose and a woodpecker on our hike. We were also able to traverse some ice bridges and make it to this gorgeous overlook. So worth the visit!
