Sam was great! There was a change in pick up location due to some road construction and he was very communicative about arranging an alternative pick up. Excellent tour! He had lots of great information.. I highly recommend this tour if you want to visit the ANHC and see some other bits of Anchorage in an afternoon!

Our tour guide was excellent, but the content of thetour itself left a lot to be desired. If you are booking this tour, don’t bother with the trolley tour because there was a lot of overlap and this one seemed to be more comprehensive, but neither of them were very interesting. The heritage center is wonderful, although not very extensive. Certainly not as extensive as the indigenous museum in Vancouver. The grounds are lovely.

Hi Charlotte, thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad to hear that you found your guide excellent and enjoyed your time at the Heritage Center. Pacific Alaska Tours is Alaska Native-owned, and the cultural component of this experience is something we take great pride in. Our tour also includes a special partnership with the Alaska Art Alliance, which helps foster a safe, clean, and welcoming environment where Alaska Native elders can gather, continue practicing their crafts, and share their knowledge with visitors. For that reason, we were disappointed by the comparison of this experience to an Indigenous museum in Vancouver. Alaska Native cultures, communities, and traditions are distinct, and the purpose of this tour is not to replicate the scale or format of a museum elsewhere, but to provide guests with a meaningful introduction to the people, history, and living cultures of Alaska. We appreciate your feedback and are proud to continue supporting experiences that directly benefit and celebrate Alaska Native artists and elders.

John was our tour guide and we really enjoyed our time with him..he was most knowledgeable and made our trip very enjoyable..

      Highly recommended tour

A great way to get acquainted with local indigionous people's of the region. Our tour guide, John, adapted the tour for us so we also got to stop at earthquake park and get a little more history of that event. The time we spent talking to the native carvers in Anchorage and what we learned at the Alaske Native Heritage center, will remain with us. We highly reco.mend this tour.

      Cultural Heritage Center a highlight

      Meredith_H, Jul 2026
The city highlights were very limited…only two, and one was out of town. The cultural center was informative, well presented and also entertaining. Sam, our tour guide and driver, was engaging and had a good sense of humor. Would suggest Viator provide more tour guide info about Anchorage, more sights in the city, and a longer visit to the cultural center. Recommend this tour with changes noted.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re pleased to hear that you enjoyed the Alaska Native Heritage Center and that Sam made the experience engaging and entertaining. This three-hour experience is designed as a City Highlights and Indigenous Heritage Tour, with the primary focus on Alaska Native history, culture, and traditions. The city portion includes a drive through downtown Anchorage and Ship Creek, along with a stop at the Grandma Olga statue, before continuing to the Heritage Center for two hours. Our afternoon tour also includes a stop at the Alaska Art Alliance; unfortunately, it is not open during our morning tour. We appreciate your suggestion for additional Anchorage commentary and sightseeing and will share your feedback with our team. We will also review the tour description to ensure the cultural focus and differences between the morning and afternoon itineraries are clearly communicated. Thank you again for your thoughtful feedback and recommendation.

A must do excursion to begin your Anchorage/Alaska experience

      Valgiordano, Jul 2026
From the start, Britain was so helpful with my Anchorage plans. I then reserved the Heritage Museum tour. My tour guide, Clint. Wonderful! He was beyond acommodating, and his knowledge just astounded me. We actually got to see Beluga whales atShips Creek which Clint assured me was a rare ocurrance! Then onto the museum. With my limited mobility, I opted to not walk to the habitats, but Clint wasn't having any of that! He got a wheelchair and pushed me all around in the rain and into the habitats! I can't even begin to tell you how above and beyond this was! I was very lucky to have a day that was ok become one for the bucket list! Do not miss this tour, it is a must see to start your Anchorage/Alaska experience. Thank you. Clint and best wishes to you with the birth of your twins!

      A must tour

First I'd like to thank the tour company for not canceling the tour because I was the only customer. Second, I'd like to thank the tour guide, Clint. He was amazing and personable. I enjoyed his take on things and his personal experiences. The tour was amazing and all the information that I learned today at the Alaska Native Heritage Center was all new for me. I appreciated learning about native Alaskan people's culture and how varied it is. Thank you!

This was an amazing + enlightening experience. Will imparted his encyclopedic knowledge and experience all throughout the tour. He went out of his way to be courteous and responsive, and shared his love of his home state in a beautiful way. I learned a lot about this area ! Highly recommend !

A great way to begin a visit to Anchorage

      Grace_B, Sep 2025
We wanted to begin our time in Anchorage by learning about the first people of the area. The heritage center is not to be missed. Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful. We were the only two on the tour and were so pleased the tour was not cancelled. Thanks for a great start to our trip!

      Has potential, but needs work

The idea of this tour is really cool, but it fell flat in execution. We were early to our meetup spot as instructed, but our guide was not. He was nice, but not very experienced or informed about the tour. I enjoyed the stops but was hoping to get more coherent storytelling of the indigenous population of Alaska. It was cool to stop by the port because it wasn’t included on other tours we went on, but it was unclear how it fit into the story. The Alaska Art Alliance was a fantastic idea, but the shop didn’t seem ready for us, as we killed time browsing at the carvings for a while. We did get to go in the back where the art is made and the artisans were welcoming and kind, but there wasn’t really anything prepared and we didn’t see any art being made. The Alaska Heritage Center was my favorite part of the tour, but there was so much to see (outside villages, native dance performances, a museum, vendors) that there wasn’t enough time in the tour for us to soak it all in, and I ended up wishing we had just gone to the Heritage Center by ourselves so we could use all the time we wanted. Overall I recommend connecting with the indigenous peoples and culture of Alaska because it is fascinating and important, but this tour needs some improvement before it can achieve that.

      Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for taking the time to share your honest feedback. We’re very sorry to hear that your experience on our city tour fell short, particularly due to the tardiness of your guide and the unpreparedness during your visit to the Alaska Art Alliance. Although our guide is not Indigenous or a lifelong Alaskan, we hold all of our guides to a standard of having a strong foundational understanding of the region’s history and the cultures we represent, especially on tours that highlight Alaska’s Indigenous communities. We’re sorry that part of the story didn’t come through the way it should have. We also want to sincerely apologize for not allowing more time at the Alaska Native Heritage Center. It’s a powerful and enriching place to visit, and it’s clear from your comments that it should have been given more space in the itinerary. We’re always working to improve, especially as we develop new tours and partnerships like the one with the Art Alliance. Your feedback is incredibly valuable and has already been shared with our team to ensure we’re making the necessary adjustments. Thank you again for joining us and for offering such thoughtful insight. We hope the rest of your time in Alaska brought you the connection and experiences you were hoping for.
