Viator's lack of trip information

Elliott_V, Sep 2026
If you visit between June 1st and September 14th there are free shuttles from downtown Ankerage to the Center. Viator should inform purchers of this free shuttle. It cost us $72 for an Uber.

Worth the time

Great place to learn about Native Heritage with the opportunity to see how they lived and survived in the colder climates. Friendly people, great setup.

The Alaskan Heritage...

The Alaskan Heritage Cultural center a must! Anyone that likes history and anthropology will truly enjoy! From the clothes to the performances displaying the strength of the community.

Wonderful experience

Lynn_B, Aug 2026
This center was fantastic- between the outside village sites and the gallery, we were blown away. We got to learn about the culture and daily living experiences of different cultures walking through the village sites. Then we got more history walking through the gallery- we learned so much. I loved all of the Native artist selling their handmade products- everything was beautiful. There was a Native dance performance while we were there, but we missed it because we were walking through the village sites. We got a quick snack at the cafe, which was good. The whole center was clean and organized and put together well. The displays were thoughtful and educational. My only complaint would be about the free shuttle. While this is an extra service that they do not even have to provide, it was difficult to get on a shuttle. The center is 15-20 minutes outside of town so we probably would not have gone without the offer of a free shuttle. Fortunately, we showed up very early for the 3:00 downtown shuttle because the shuttle was full and leaving the pickup spot by 2:40. At the center we asked about the midtown return shuttle (the offer both a midtown and downtown shuttle) and we were told what time the last shuttle would be departing. We once again showed up early to catch the shuttle but we were told the midtown and downtown shuttles had been combined and they were full. We were worried we were going to have to get a very expensive uber back to town but the shuttle driver told us a shuttle would eventually come back and get us. After waiting about 20 minutes for a shuttle to come back we requested a midtown drop off and we were told the shuttle would only drop us off downtown- even though we were the only ones on the shuttle. So, the free shuttle service is a nice extra that the center offers, but I would caution future visitors not to rely on it for their transportation. Despite our travel issues, the visit was amazing and I would definitely go again.

Alaskan Native Historical Museum

Susan_P, Jul 2026
There is great historical information but it needs much more support from the local native Alaskans. More weaving available for purchase from local historical fibers, ore scrimshaw work, if supplies are available, etc

Outstanding experience

Monica_J, May 2026
Outstanding experience with ongoing cultural activities since we arrived such as native games and dances as well as local artists showcasing their works. The tour by the lake is highly informative and everyone at the center was very friendly.

A definite must for visitors and Alaskan natives alike!

Emlyn_f, Sep 2025
We enjoyed the live performances which gave us insight into Alaska native games and dance. The museum was very informative and moving.

Definitely Go!

Stephanie_C, Jul 2025
There is so much to learn about the native Alaskan people and their history. The pride in their heritage is evident when you listen to the young people demonstrate their games, dancing, and other traditions. Highly recommended!

Must go on the guided tour !

Laura_F, Jul 2025
Took a guided tour and Cheyenne was the absolute best ! So informative! Learned so much about the native Alaskan people and their proud heritage

You can find native arts...

LynnAlison_M, Jul 2025
You can find native arts that are beautiful! Loved the youth that were our guides & the joy we saw on the faces while dancing was wonderful.

Well worth the visit

Great immersive experience with live music, dancing and storytelling. Don’t miss this on your trip to Anchorage.

Educational and research type

Pramoda_M, Jun 2024
This is more educational and research type, but marketed as entertainment. Out of the way. We went by Uber but could not get Uber to get back. They have shuttle bus, we waited for an hour and told 3-4 people that we will be waiting. We went to the shuttle pick up place 5 minutes before departure time and were told that it had left. We had to get a taxi to get back to town.

Very informative

Sebastien_B, Jul 2026
Very informative and allows one to become aware of the difficulties faced by indigenous peoples on one hand and to discover their culture on the other hand, with a perspective regarding the vast territory and its various constraints.
