It was an amazing experience! It covered more than I expected. I recommend two days for the African American Museum. I found myself emotional, I loved the overall experience.

Great historically accurate, knowledgeable tour guide and tour experience!

Shari_C, Mar 2026
I showed up late and Kenny still made it one of the best tours I've ever taken. We covered an incredible amount of ground — the White House, St. Elizabeth's mental institution near the new Mystics arena, Frederick Douglass' 9-acre hilltop estate, Mary McLeod Bethune's home, the first African American theater in the US (Howard Theater) where legends like Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, and Ella Fitzgerald performed. We wrapped up at the Lincoln and MLK Memorials — all before the African American Museum opened at noon. This tour is deeply immersive and covers history you won't find in the standard education system. If you're visiting DC, carve out a full day for this experience. It's not just Black history — it's American history, told fully and honestly. Highly recommend Kenny and this tour.

Not a good tour, you can rent a car and use a map

Donna, Mar 2026
Not a good tour for childten or teens. The driver drove through areas very fast, did not allow time to take pictures. Kept coughing when attempting to share history and did not speak clearly.

I had such an amazing time on today’s African American History Tour! Our tour guide was incredibly knowledgeable and shared so many powerful historical facts about African American history and Washington, DC landmarks. You could really tell he loves what he does. What made the tour even better was his personality—he was funny, engaging, and kept us interested the entire time. He also drove safely and made sure everyone felt comfortable while guiding us through such important history. Overall, he was a great guy and an excellent tour guide. I learned a lot and truly enjoyed the experience. 10/10 – Highly recommended!

It's not a one experience, need multiple days to absorb everything. It's starts from Slavery to the present. They even have a HBCU addition

It is best to experience this tour in warmer weather! The visit to the African American Museum was especially moving and definitely worth another visit. Aside from the cold temps, the tour was perfect.

Very enjoyable tour.

Appreciation

Donald_C, Sep 2025
It was amazingly intriguing at how much knowledge that was revealed. Kenny was an encyclopedia of knowledge and humor. I truly believe that there is no better conveyor of black history or one who has a better understanding of the history, culture and it’s people. Kenny is truly giving back to the community and to all who choose his guidance. I flew from the west coast for this experience and Kenny made it worthwhile!

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hi Donald . Thank you for those kind words . I love telling stories about our people . African American history is not often easy to hear but we need to listen to what is being told

Great tour!

Marco_R, Aug 2025
This was an excellent tour that provided a thoughtful and informative overview of African American history in Washington, DC. Our guide explained the many layers of the city’s past with clarity and insight, connecting landmarks, neighborhoods, and personal stories in a meaningful way. It was both educational and engaging, and gave me a deeper appreciation for the significant role African Americans have played in shaping the culture and history of our nation’s capital. I highly recommend this tour to anyone seeking a richer understanding of Washington, DC.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you Marco. We had a small group but had a great time . Once again thank you for changing your tour day. Safe travels

2025 historic tour

KEVIN_A, Aug 2025
We paid full price even though parts of the tour were closed due to the day of the week. Had my party known or were informed about the closures, we would have chosen a different day and time for our tour.

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I understand your disappointment at not being able to visit the Frederick Douglass House during your tour. I’d like to clarify that the tour schedule is outlined clearly on our site: visits to the Douglass House are offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. On Thursdays and Fridays, we visit the Mary McLeod Bethune House instead. Both homes are closed on Sundays and Mondays. We do our best to make this information as clear as possible so guests know in advance what to expect. I regret that the timing of your visit did not align with the Douglass House’s open schedule, and I hope you were still able to enjoy the other meaningful experiences included on your tour

Rich African American History

My day at the African American Museum

Moka_W, Aug 2025
One of the highlights of my visit to the museum was definitely the one-hour tour on C2. Our tour guide was a treasure trove of knowledge, captivating us with fascinating stories that brought history to life. Each tale was more intriguing than the last, making the experience not just informative but truly unforgettable.asure trove of knowledge, captivating us with fascinating stories that brought history to life. Response from Host, Aug 2025

We did spend sometime on C2 for sure. I like telling stories because people will remember stories more than facts . It is very important when people visit the Museum of African American History and Culture to start at the bottom floor

KB Tours, great way to start DC vacation!

So Much Knowledge

Lachiesa_T, Jun 2025
We toured the city with tidbits from.our tour operator, but also met other guides at the Douglass home and African American Military Memorial who embellished and added to the experience.

Response from Host, Jun 2025

Thank you for the review . I am so happy you mentioned the young men who gave you a tour at the Frederick Douglass house and the African American Civil War memorial. Ken was guide at the Douglass home . He is a HBCU grad much like the other guides at the Douglass house and the Mary Bethune house . Marquett was the young man at the African American Civil War Memorial . He is well past excellent . Marquett is extremely knowledge about the civil soldiers of color

You will learn some little know facts and Mr. Kenny was an absolute pleasure. The stops were just long enough to enjoy the sites and take plenty of pictures. He also shared some great eating spots.

Phenomenal Tour

Kenyatta_G, Mar 2025
I had an incredible experience on the tour led by Kenny, who was simply an outstanding guide. His deep knowledge of African American history, as well as the histories of other cultural groups in Washington, D.C., was truly impressive and unparalleled. From the moment the tour began, I felt at ease, as if I were his niece and he was sharing family stories with me. Kenny’s engaging storytelling made the history come alive, and his passion for the subject was evident in every word. I can't recommend this tour highly enough! As a delightful bonus, Kenny took us to a fantastic soul food restaurant called Ooh and Ahh at the end of the tour, where we enjoyed some delicious authentic cuisine. Overall, the entire experience was exceptional, and I left with a deeper appreciation for the rich history of D.C. and its diverse communities. Don’t miss this tour if you’re in the area!

Response from Host, Mar 2025

Thank you for your review. You and the other ladies were a great group to tour around DC. I think we all learned a lot from each other other . The food at dinner was very good also . i like your part of your review that you felt like my niece . From Uncle Kenny a very heart felt thank you

Martin Luther King, Jr....

Delia_S, Jan 2025
Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is powerful. It communicates the fact that the work of fighting for the rights of everyone is far from done.

Response from Host, Jan 2025

The King memorial is one of the highlights of the tour

Eye opening and engaging!

Tracy_C, Nov 2024
Our host Kenny was wonderful. He was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. This was a wonderful experience for my family. Thank you

Enjoyable experience

Sylvia_R, Oct 2024
The tour was very informative and an overall enjoyable experience. Kenny was our tour guide and he shared a plethora of information and was personable and accommodating. I highly recommend this tour.

Nice for first timers to DC.

Gwendolyn_E, Oct 2024
It was good to revisit what was like a second home decades before. The problem was communication with the tour guide. I received several text messages on the Frederick Douglas tour had changed. So I ignore the messages. Our tour was with the AAHistorical tour. Therefore we arrived at the time stated on our reservation. Only to learn the actual tour started one hour before. After several calls to the home office and finally spoke to the guide, only to learn that he was the one texting about the Frederick Douglas tour. He offered to meet us at the final tour site. I declined to meet them at the last tour stop i insist that we meet up with them at their next stop. He finally agreed. That's what we did. Do to the missed communication and missing the full tour, we are requesting a 3rd of the price refund.

Response from Host, Oct 2024

Thank you for your review, and I truly appreciate your feedback. I made several attempts to reach out to you regarding the change in tour time, including voice messages, text messages, and emails through the Viator system. In these messages, I mentioned that the tour would start at 8:30 a.m. instead of 9:30 a.m. due to an early reservation at the Douglass House. I sent the same information to all the guests on the tour that day, and everyone arrived at 8:30 a.m. to ensure we met the reservation on time. I even sent you a follow-up text message the morning of the tour, to which you replied that you did not sign up for the tour. I am sorry about any inconvenience
