Incredibly interesting, an amazing experience, very unique and different. We had a marvolous guide who knew perfectly well all that there was to know about the sites and also in a fun and enjoyable way. The 3 hour tour felt like one hour. Great experience.

As usual Viators organisation was spot on. Having visited Rome previously and yesterday done the sights via the Hop on hop off bus -organised through Viator- the underground Rome was different. There were only 4 of us on the tour with Franscesca local company Joys of Rome so it was intimate and very personal. It was fascinating to follow the transformation of some of the buildings through time as their purpose and structures were altered. Although we'd been through St Clemente church and catacombs the day before Franscesca ,an Arts and history major, gave us a completely different slant on things and homed in on different aspects of the buildings.

Ask for Francesca!!! Francesca was extremely pleasant, knowledgeable and professional. We've been on many many tours with Viator and AMEX around the world and she definitely stands out as one of the very BEST. The tour was enlightening and gave us a different perspective of Rome from our last visit 2 yrs ago.

This was such an interesting tour of the Basilica of San Clemente. This is a church, that was built on the footprint of a much older church dating back to the late Roman Empire. The excavation of the lower areas began in the 1700's. Before that, no one knew of the original church. You will visit the original church, and even walk lower to an ancient Roman house, about 2000 years old among other areas. You will be about 50 feet below the street level. It is fascinating that, as much as there is to see in Rome, there is more to the city that is buried under the streets and buildings. Angelica was our tour guide and was very informative. Highly recommended.
