- This is a self-guided driving tour. Transportation and a driver are not included, so you’ll need your own vehicle or rental car.
- Start the tour in Lawai. Navigate to the designated starting area before beginning; the tour’s GPS-guided directions will take over once you reach the route.
- Download the Shaka Guide app after booking. Use the redemption code in your confirmation to access your tour.
- Download the tour over strong Wi-Fi before you go. Once downloaded, the audio and map work offline, so continuous cellular service is not required.
- Explore your way. Stops are recommendations, not requirements. Skip stops, stay longer at places you enjoy, or adjust the day based on your interests and schedule.
- Some recommended stops are within Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe State Parks. Any required park entry and parking fees are paid separately directly to the parks and are not included with the Shaka Guide tour.
- Accessibility varies by stop. Because this is a self-guided tour using your own vehicle, accessibility depends on your vehicle and the locations you choose to visit. Some optional trails and outdoor stops may not be accessible to all travelers.
- Bring a fully charged phone. A car charger is recommended for a full-day tour.
- This is a private tour/activity. Only your group will participate

Because of the hurricane all the roads was closed so I didn’t get to fully experience the tour. The tour might’ve been a good tour, but I wouldn’t know.

Aloha Namasha, sorry your trip landed right in the middle of that rough weather. Kauaʻi took a pretty hard hit, and things still aren’t fully back to normal as the island continues recovering.
The good news is your Shaka Guide tour never expires, so you haven’t lost it. If you make it back to Kauaʻi, just download the app and tour again and you can pick it right back up. You can use it as many times as you want.
Hope you get another shot at Waimea Canyon under much better skies.

Not very difficult to Navigate, unless you're Technology Challenged! Once everything is properly setup with your vehicle it was a pleasure following the tour.

It started out great. Narration is really good and interesting. Unfortunately our app kept restarting from the beginning of the tour and it would catch back up but eventually it stopped updating to where we left off.

This was such a cool thing to be able to do! At my family’s own pace… without some big tour group where we felt trapped… we all loved this! Well… maybe not my 13 year old daughter but she doesn’t love much these days ;) overall though, besides the fact that the main road to the canyon was closed, we were able to enjoy the majority of the tour, get some cool stories, legends, history lessons and Hawaiian music along the way… a winner on this one for me and my family!

The route was closed and we had to find our own way. Cell service was spotty at best. Due to being detoured we missed most of the trip. Disappointing.

We're sorry to hear your visit didn't go as planned.
Unfortunately, road closures and detours are determined by the local authorities and are outside of Shaka Guide's control. Because Shaka Guide is an offline GPS audio tour, the narration follows the published tour route and doesn't automatically reroute like Google Maps or other navigation apps when a detour is required.
The good news is that the tours themselves work offline once downloaded, so cell service isn't required to enjoy them. We always recommend downloading the app and tours before leaving an area with Wi-Fi.
We wish you'd reached out while you were on the island—we're always happy to help when unexpected road conditions come up.

Beautiful and breath taking. Definitely worth it. There are a few hikes you should be prepared for with good hiking shoes and water.

The red dirt and clay along trails like the Canyon Trail or Pihea Trail can get incredibly slick and muddy, so being prepared with proper footwear and plenty of hydration is the absolute best way to safely enjoy those landscapes.

If you have taken other tours with Viator, this one will feel quite a bit different. Upon booking, you are prompted to download an app, and there are at least a dozen steps to that process. Once you are all set up, you can use the rather glitchy app to tour the western side of Kauai.. It is well curated, without a doubt, but the technology is not top notch.
The guide was fun and interesting and took us to locations we wouldn't have known about in a as standard map.
Very fun and informative narration, accurate directions, made the drive from Poipu to Waimea Canyon very enjoyable. And economical.
Travelers should check ahead of time on road closure on last stretch to Na pali overlook so as not to be disappointed, as we were.
Make sure you download the Shaka Guide app- you need that as well as the Viator app. This was a great way to se everything at your own pace and with lots of facts and information.
The audio had a few cool tid bits of information but a lot of the stops were closed and we started our day at 10am. The canyon was beautiful but I was hoping for more spots.

It was good once we figured out the app and we were at correct location to begin. Was frustrating until that point but once synced correctly and at correct starting location the app ran smoothly and was a great tour. We will try this again on Maui

This audio tour made the drive up Waimea Canyon much more informative and I would recommend it to anyone
Follow instructions carefully for connecting at starting points. We had a little trouble at the beginning, but once connected it was great.
This is a fantastic way to see the island. Unfortunately Waimea Canyon was. Socked in with fog so we turned back. But we had fun with the beginning of the tour the history and tha Hawaiian music.
We wanted to start the tour at the top of waimea Canyon. It seemed to start out ok but then seemed to struggle as we got down into some of the towns. I expected to have more history and stories than what was provided. It was nice having the Hawaiian music during the quiet times.

i chose shaka tour because i s liked others that we used- I will say i had some growing this one which is why i have held off with a review…maybe cant blame the tour might have been my phone But several if the things were closed for renovations making them not visitable.
