Skip the line?

Addisen_H, Apr 2026
Originally bought the 9am time slot. Got a text saying it’s now at 11am. Kind of inconvenient for us as a family with young kids. I’m assuming they didn’t get the tickets in time for the 9 am slot. Not sure what “skip the line” was as the title said. Didn’t skip any lines and still waited. The people were kind but a little misleading for sure.

Vatican museum

Very good experience! I was a bit hesitant about these things at first, because they moved our booked time due to easter celebrations. But didn’t have any plans so it didn’t affect us. When we got to the meeting point, they got us tickets and said we don’t have to wait in the line. We went to the museum at the time the ticket said and in fact did not have to wait! Everything worked very well and i was happy to pay a bit extra because normal tickets sold out so fast and i saw the kilometers long line. So this skip the line ticket was the best! One thing to note is that they can move your booking like they did to us. We were supposed to go on monday and they moved it to tuesday (because of easter). And then on tuesday they called and asked if we can go two ours earlier than first agreed. We were just lucky because we were at the area anyways. But if your days are fully packed, be prepared to discuss about the schedule with them if they move it.

If you can avail of a skip the line ticket do!!! The queues are so long however the venue is well worth the wait to get it. Amazing

More than Enough

Adrian_L, Apr 2026
Vatican City can be intimidating with the lines and even the crowds inside. However, the process for getting our tickets and following instructions. We didn't wait AT ALL to enter and the amount of history and presentations was overwhelming.

I don't recommend

Bryan_B, Apr 2026
The service was extremely disappointing and does not justify the price charged. There was a delay of nearly one hour from the scheduled time, and despite that, we still had to wait in line with no benefit or priority whatsoever. Charging more than double the ticket price to deliver the exact same — or even worse — experience is unjustifiable. To make matters worse, the service at the tourism office was terrible: the receptionist was rude, impatient, and clearly unprepared, providing no useful information. Overall, a frustrating experience that I would not recommend.

Frustration and Despair at the Colliseum

Cynthia_L, Apr 2026
it was hard to find the tour leader and the tour started late. We almost gave up. We were handed off twice until we had the real guide. He was focused almost exclusively on the persecution of Christians in the Colleseum with gruesome detail. Ugh

Worth the money

Blake_T, Mar 2026
The more expensive tickets to skip the line are worth the cost. The office was very helpful. It was a wonderful experience.

Sistine Chapel

Alane_G, Mar 2026
Great experience, no waiting in line. Peter was great. We thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel.

Skip the line was great. The guide took us right to the gate. The museum is quite overwhelming especially the Sistine chapel.

Do NOT Book “City Rome Tours”

Andrew_B, Dec 2025
Unprofessional company “City Rome Tours” does not even have a real sign. It’s a paper sign on a door. No clear meeting point and would not give me my ticket. Do not book anything with this company. All employees there have no professionalism, will leave you and talk to others.

Self-paced

Excellent! The skip the line tickets are the way to go if you don't order in advance. The sitting chapel is amazing!!!

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Hi Carrie, Thank you for your lovely words — we’re so glad you enjoyed booking with us! We hope to see you again for another great experience. xx

Skipped the line

David_K, Nov 2025
We skipped the line and entered the museum without any fuss. I saw the snaking line and was glad that I booked this tour. We would have to join the horrendously long queue if we had not booked this tour. Thank you very much. We had a wonderful time.

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you so much for your kind review! We're thrilled to hear that skipping the line made your visit smooth and stress-free. Those long queues can be overwhelming, and we're glad your booking allowed you to enter the museum with ease and enjoy your time to the fullest. We truly appreciate your feedback and are delighted that you had a wonderful experience. We hope to welcome you back again soon!

A true “skip the line”...

Caroline_W, Nov 2025
A true “skip the line” experience- worth the cost especially during a jubilee year. The lines were so long but we were spared the chaos. We had someone walk us up and make sure we were in the correct line and that we passed through security check without issue. Very helpful!

Response from Host, Nov 2025

Thank you for sharing your experience! We're delighted to hear that the true skip-the-line access made such a difference, especially during the busy Jubilee year. The crowds and lines can be overwhelming, so we're very glad our team was able to guide you through the entrance and security smoothly. Your kind words about the assistance you received mean a lot to us. We’re happy to have helped make your visit stress-free and enjoyable. We hope to welcome you again on your next trip!

Richard_F, Oct 2025
It wasn’t easy finding the place that had the tickets,we had 4:30 reservations and we ended up getting in at 5:15 plus there were at least 400 people in front of us so that was skipping the line?

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Looks like everyone showed up for the “skip the line” special at the same time! Just a note — the skip-the-line option covers the ticket line, but the security check is mandatory for all visitors.

A scam

Sandra_T, Oct 2025
Your guide stated that we didn’t have a ticket after getting in contact with me and giving me directions. They lied I called showed them I was there they were not they told me that my ticket was not correct so please he’ll me when will I get my refund. This was a poor excuse of a scam

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Dear Sandra Touya, Thank you for your message. We would like to clarify that, as discussed through the Viator chat, you requested to reschedule your visit for Sunday—however, as we informed you, the Vatican is closed on Sundays. You then asked to change your entry time from 17:30 to a later hour, but unfortunately 17:30 is the latest entrance time. On the day of your visit, you arrived later than the instructed check-in time and without a confirmed rescheduling, which made it impossible for our team to accommodate the changes. We fully understand that plans can change, and we always do our best to assist our guests. For future bookings, we recommend confirming rescheduling requests in advance to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience. Thank you for your understanding, and we wish you all the best on your future travels!

Paying for a tour doesn't guarantee you will get in!

Heidi_Z, Oct 2025
Don't book at tour at 5:30pm! They stop letting people in at 6pm. Nobody told us that being in line...5 feet away...doesn't guarantee you entrance. Hopefully our tour tomorrow isn't affected by King Charles being here...that is our last chance to go

Response from Host, Dec 2025

Thank you for your feedback. We’re very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced. We’d like to clarify that the time slot had no impact on your ability to enter. On the specific days of your visit, the Vatican implemented unexpected restrictions and early closures due to King Charles’ visit, which affected all entrances regardless of booking time. Unfortunately, this was completely outside our control, and we were not informed in advance of these operational changes. We truly hope your next tour goes smoothly and that you’re able to enjoy your visit without further disruptions. If there’s anything else we can assist with, please let us know.

We were not allowed entry...

Geralyn_M, Oct 2025
We were not allowed entry into the Cistine Chapel due to a misspelling of a last name. I believe these tickets were sold to another party.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your review. We're sorry to hear about your experience, but we would like to clarify an important point: access to the Sistine Chapel is only possible through the Vatican Museums, as they share a single entry ticket. It is not possible to visit one without entering the other. Regarding the issue you mentioned with a misspelled last name—this does not prevent entry as long as the booking reference and other details match. Tickets are not re-sold or transferred to other parties. If there was a problem at the entrance, it may have been a misunderstanding, and we would have been happy to assist if contacted at the time. We always encourage guests to leave honest and constructive feedback, but it's important that it reflects accurate events and facts. If you would like to provide more information about your booking, we’d be glad to look into it further. Thank you for your understanding.

Great staff, bit of confusion on pick up time but more than made up for it with upgrades and personal service

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your understanding! We're glad our team could make it up to you with upgrades and personal service. Your satisfaction means a lot to us!

Spend time wisely

James_W, Oct 2025
Great self paced tour, took our time wandering the museum. The only issue we experienced was visiting the Sistine Chapel. It's a very small chapel and you are rushed through it. Give yourself plenty of time to visit, there is a lot of area's to explore.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the self-paced aspect of the tour and had the chance to explore the museum at your own rhythm. The Sistine Chapel can indeed feel a bit rushed due to the high volume of visitors, and we appreciate you pointing that out for future guests. Your advice to allow plenty of time is spot on — there's so much to see and take in. We hope to welcome you back for another visit!

Skip the line was great. Communicating with Viator was wonderful. Would highly this to friends, family

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that skipping the line made your experience even better and that communication with Viator was smooth. We truly appreciate your recommendation and would love to welcome your friends and family in the future!

Practical option worth the price

Debbie_H, Sep 2025
Great to skip the line - half an hour rather than 3hrs wait. It is so busy inside so nice not to q too long.

Response from Host, Oct 2025

Thank you for your review! We're glad to hear you enjoyed the skip-the-line access — saving time in such a busy place really makes a difference. It’s true, the crowds can be intense, so we’re happy we could help make your visit smoother and more enjoyable. Hope to see you again on another tour!

Would never book through Viator again

Anne_T, Sep 2025
City Rome Tours never showed up to provide tickets. Phone calls and messages went unanswered. Terrible support all around

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Sorry for the misunderstanding. Tickets are not sent remotely; instead, customers are required to meet at the designated meeting point clearly indicated on your voucher and all prior communications. Our team always strives to provide the best service, and the tickets are handed out in person at our office, which is the official meeting spot. We hope to welcome you again in the future and ensure a smooth experience at the correct meeting point.

Matt_H, Sep 2025
Good way to see the Sistine Chapel. Long tedious tour, but you kinda have to see it right? My skip the pass ticket still meant waiting in line for 30 minutes, which wasn’t terrible.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thanks for your honest feedback! We’re glad you enjoyed seeing the Sistine Chapel, even if the tour felt a bit long. We appreciate your patience with the wait time—it can sometimes happen, but we’re happy it wasn’t too bad. Hope your overall experience was memorable!

Avoid this tour company...

Stephen_W, Sep 2025
Avoid this tour company at all costs. If I could give 0 stars, I would. They changed times on us. Left us standing around doing nothing while we could have been in line. An Viator will do nothing.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Thank you for your feedback. There was a special event at the attraction on that day, and to avoid canceling your experience, we did our best to accommodate your booking within an already very tight schedule. You agreed to the time change, which allowed us to keep your reservation active—otherwise, we would have had to cancel and issue a refund. Please understand that we never make last-minute changes lightly, as tickets are secured well in advance. We appreciate your understanding and hope to provide a smoother experience in the future.

If I could write a 0...

Kaitlyn_S, Sep 2025
If I could write a 0 instead of a 1 star I would. The “skip the line” is an unfortunate scam with this company, we waited in passageway 1 on a line as we watched people enter 2 and 3 before us who just got there.

Response from Host, Sep 2025

Hello Kaitlyn, Thank you for your message. Please note that "skip the line" refers to bypassing the ticket purchase line. However, all visitors—individuals and groups alike—are still required to go through security checks, which may involve some waiting time. This is a standard Vatican protocol and beyond our control. We appreciate your understanding and hope you still enjoyed your visit!

Avoid this operator

Faye_W, Aug 2025
Vatican good. Tour operator not so. They did not make contact with me to advise the time of the excursion had changed, by an hour later. We had rushed there that morning and then we were left waiting around. This is despite me asking Viator and the tour operator the day before, if we could make the excursion a little later! Tour operator ignored me. Viator said I couldn’t change the time. Not very good service. Avoid this operator!

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your review. We're glad you enjoyed your visit to the Vatican. We’d like to clarify that our team did accommodate your request to move the tour to a later time, as you had asked. Given this, we’re surprised by your comment about having to wait — the revised timing was made specifically to suit your request. We understand how important clear communication is, and we regret if there was any confusion. However, we did act in good faith to meet your needs and are disappointed to see this reflected as poor service. We appreciate your feedback and will continue working to improve the overall experience for all our guests.

It’s a long walk through...

Richard_S, Aug 2025
It’s a long walk through the museum. Skip the queue only means you don’t have to queue to buy a ticket. Still have to queue for entry at your selected time. The queues are long

Response from Host, Aug 2025

Thank you for your feedback. You're absolutely right — the Vatican Museums are vast, and exploring them does involve quite a bit of walking. We always recommend comfortable footwear and allowing plenty of time to take it all in. Regarding the “skip-the-line” access: this means you avoid the general ticket purchase queue, which can be extremely long, especially during peak season. However, there is still a line for security and timed entry, which is managed by the Vatican itself and applies to all visitors, even those with advance bookings. We appreciate you sharing your experience and hope you still found the visit worthwhile!
