This lab is an absolute blast for anyone curious about mixology. The variety of ingredients, like fresh herbs, exotic powders, and even edible flowers, make me want to experiment with everything. The setting feels like a quirky scientist’s playground, and the host is knowledgeable about all the ingredients and techniques. The host’s own quirkiness makes the experience fun and inclusive for all attending, even if you’re traveling solo or don’t have any experience with mixology. I can’t wait to return with a group of friends. We love to find unique activities in Seattle, and this definitely qualifies.

Get ready for a fantastic adventure in new flavors and surprising combinations. Jen is a superior host and lets you explore all the crazy combos you can think of. I am a novice cocktail maker and had success. My husband is a true aficionado and discovered new things! So good for all experience levels.

This workshop was way more fun than any cocktail class I’ve taken! You throw on a lab coat, step into a playful little “drink lab,” and experiment your way to a delicious cocktail or mocktail. The instructor is super encouraging and makes the whole experience feel creative rather than rigid. Great ambiance, great ingredients, great vibe. Highly recommend for a group activity or a memorable night out in Seattle!

Had a great time. You get a lab coat and access this woody loft space to mix drinks however you want. I’m sober, but the experience was pretty flippin rad nonetheless. t’s hands-on and creative, not a strict class where you just watch someone else. Lot of options when it came to drinks, essences, bitters, et cetera. The instructor was helpful without hovering, and a couple of my drinks were mindblowingly good. May have to round up the Sobears and come back here. Raar.

I had an absolute blast at this “mad scientist” cocktail workshop! The moment I walked into the Greenfire Loft, I was handed a lab coat and instantly felt like I’d stepped into a playful little laboratory for adults. The space is gorgeous—tucked above Melrose Market with great people-watching and a cozy lounge vibe.
The instructor set the tone perfectly: supportive, fun, and ready to nudge you just far enough out of your comfort zone. There are printed recipes you can follow… but honestly, the real magic is experimenting. I loved mixing ingredients, tasting as I went, and getting tips whenever I was stuck or wanted to be bolder. It’s creative chaos in the best way, and the tools and ingredients felt really thoughtfully curated.
My finished drink turned out delicious, and lounging in a vintage butterfly chair while sipping it was the perfect finish. Whether you’re planning a team activity, a birthday, or just want something unique to do in Seattle, this workshop is such a standout. I left feeling like both a chemist and a bartender.

A fantastic group activity! Whether you enjoy alcoholic cocktails or creative mocktails, this lab offers a perfect mix of freedom and guidance. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the opportunity to try smoking your drinks with different wood chips added a unique twist. Highly recommended for a fun evening out with friends or family.

We had a great time creating and sharing our mocktails. I loved having some recommendations to choose from along with being able to mix and match from a huge selection of ingredients including teas, dehyrdrated fruits, and edible glitter in the ambiance of a comfortable, warm, unique environment of Melrose Market. The host had a lot of knowledge, recommendations, and made sure everyone felt comfortable trying new things in the cool loft surroundings. This mocktail workshop was a great environment to spend quality time with friends. Love the commitment to the community space. Can't wait to come back with my colleagues!

Perfect for anyone who wants to try something different in Seattle. The vibe is friendly and welcoming, and the emphasis on experimentation lets you discover new flavors and combinations. It’s more of a playground than a class, which means you can take your time and enjoy the process at your own pace.

Fun and interesting evening! The Mad Scientist has everything needed for mixology you’ve never even thought to try! Experimentation is the key word!!

Was wonderful to host you! Cheers!

It was honestly a big waste of time and money. It is nothing compared to what they advertise. The instructor constantly walks always to grab tools from downstairs she forgot to grab- unprepared. With that being said, you’re doing your own thing majority of the time rather than being lead as a class. When asking questions, response is “whatever you feel” “be a mad scientist” which granted, that’s the name of the class but it almost gave off that she had no clue about mixology. Rather than talking about the actual activity itself, she rambles on about her own personal life. I personally would not recommend this to anyone. It came out to ~$200 for you to make drinks in test tubes with not enough mixers. During the intro she mentioned how she would refill/restock items after, which she didn’t, we had to ask for water. Worst money ever spent for an “out of the norm” date for me. If you have never once made a cocktail before in your life, it could potentially be fun. But for the price, you’re better off just buying some supplies yourself.

Greetings -
Thank you for attending our lab. We looked into this and discovered Viator re-wrote the overview of our experience without our authorization. Their re-written description listed it as a 'class' with instruction. Not a playground, how we originally designed it to be. I am moving forward with fixing this. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We did welcome you to come back for free sometime in the near future. Please do feel free to take us up on that for another 'playground' style workshop.

It's a fun experience where you make your own adventure. Jen has a veritable collection of mixers, essences, liquors including non-alcoholic variants, and various odds and ends. She guides you through whatever experiments you want to try.

This was a fun experience to explore and learn new things and the guest lead was personable and fun. This is not a workshop, but you can ask questions about how to do things and learn from that. It’s a great way to create flavors and drinks that you couldn’t do at home.
Isabella_B, Apr 2025
This was the coolest and most unique experience.
NOTE: THIS IS NOT ACLASS BUT A FUN MIXOLOGY EXPERIENCE. IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A GUIDED STEP BY STEP TO COCKTAILS, THIS IS NOT IT!
The instructor was so kind and very knowledgeable. The experience was 10000% worth the $. This was the highlight of my trip to Seattle. We got to mix and play around with new recipes with ingredients that would’ve costed a fortune to buy at home. It was a small 8-10 person class, so very intimate and fun vibes. I would HIGHLY recommend this activity.
For the entrance: go inside the Melrose Market near Taylor Shellfish and it’s the first staircase on the right. It was difficult to find at first but easy to spot once you’re inside the market.

Very fun! Loved that you could seriously try to make something good or throw a bunch of things together just to see what happens.
Shauna_L, Feb 2025
What a blast! There were endless concoctions we could create in this lab and we had so much fun, trying new and different things.

Super fun
Host was knowledgeable and quirky and let each group make the experience their own. Would recommend

It was a wonderful end to a great day. Jennifer took the time to tailor the experience to our group. We started by mixing a variety of cocktails both good and bad with only the best ingredients. She provided snacks and even grabbed food from local restaurants for us as our evening progressed. We couldn’t have asked for a more memorable experience! I would highly recommend for a small group of friends for a special night or on vacation.

SO FUN!!! Had the best time with our host. She was so fun. Such a great thing to do as a couple- highly recommend!

So fun!!! Great way to be creative in making cocktails with everything at your finger tips. Seriously bring your friends for an unique get together.
Holly_U, May 2024
Enjoyed the class but it needs more structure. I was hoping for more instruction versus just letting people play with ingredients..
Response from Host, Jul 2024
Thank you for your review, as it helps others to make an educated decision as to whether this workshop is a good fit for them. The lab is designed to be more of a playground style atmosphere, where attendees get to take risks and learn through trial and error. Recipes are provided, but we encourage our mad scientists to steer off in their own direction and let loose and have fun! :)
Samantha_B, May 2024
The experience was okay. Our host didn’t even know we were coming. Kind of got half of an explanation. And not really hands on.
Response from Host, May 2024
Greetings - I had a wonderful time hosting you. I'm sorry you had an ok time. I'm not sure which part wasn't hand's on, because literally everything is hands-on... but that's ok! Thank you for signing up for this experience and I wish you the best with your drink concoctions in the future! :)
Andrew_F, May 2024
Good times. A fun way to play with cocktails without having to invest in a million ingredients.
Or you can go off the rails and make something truly unhinged.
Ki_L, Apr 2024
This was a horrible experience. The owner started late.(15min). She was cleaning most of the time. At the beginning she offered a quick run down of how things go. I will never suggest this activity to anyone. We wasted our money and time. She left us hanging, we were literally left to figure everything out on our own. At one point, she talked about herself (about 20 minutes). She knew that we not familiar with mixing drinks ect. Yet she offered little assistance. I could go on and on!!!! Pathetic.
Response from Host, Apr 2024
Hello! I am so sorry you had a horrible time. I very much enjoyed hosting you and your son and your mother on her birthday! She was so wonderful. Just fyi, I started late because cleaning/sanitizing is my 'madness' for my Mad Scientist Cocktail + Mocktail Lab, and anyway, it usually it takes 10-15 minutes for everyone to get situated. I began with a 15 min lecture to walk you around and show you tricks and tools you have at your fingertips. I don't talk about myself, per se, but I speak about some things I prefer to do from a mad scientist perspective (Please note, if anyone under age is joining, in my listing description I ask you to notify me in advance... unfortunately i didn't have this info, so I had to switch up my liquor permits for the evening to accommodate someone under 21... that takes a bit of time.). Had I known I had someone under age in the group, I would have gone out of my way to get extra kid-focused ingredients (like pop rocks) for him!
In this particular case, the [grand] mother (the birthday they were all celebrating) was surprised and had no idea what she walked into. She went through a few drinks and found one she liked.. I was so happy she figured out a drink she liked! She found a dark corner to sit and enjoy her drink, but was away from everyone else. I decided to join her and get a conversation going. She said she loved my chocolate covered almond snacks -- she had eaten all of them -- so I went and re-filled them all so she could eat more. She and I then went into a further and most wonderful conversation... but it seemed like she was finished with concocting drinks. That's ok! My parents are similar, in their 70s, and enjoy one drink... from there, they like to sit around and chat, trying others' concoctions. That's ok! I'm not sure what happened here, but it was never my intention for your group to have a bad experience!
Once I discovered it was your mother's birthday, I made it a priority to pay attention to her when she was sitting in a corner by herself.
Please note: this lab is advertised as an adult playground. Once I give my lecture, I let you loose and crank up the concocting music. Everyone is most welcome to ask questions or request guidance. I am very much there when people reach out! Just gotta ask.
I wish your mother the most wonderful of birthdays. I also was trying to figure out if you had food plans for afterward, and was trying to figure out restaurants that could accommodate someone under 21.
Adrian_B, Apr 2024
This is not a mixology class, you basically are let loose to try things yourself. You can drink as much as you can handle
Kavita_S, Mar 2024
Great fun experience!
The tour operator was very responsive & experienced. It’s not a class but a lab you can work on your own
Alyson_B, Mar 2024
My family and I had a wonderful time with this cocktail and mocktail mixology experience! We enjoyed the energy of the space and opportunity to let our creative juices flow! The experience is great for adults and tweens alike, with many options and fun ingredients. We will definitely be back!
Megan_E, Mar 2024
I went with my mother in law and it was so
much fun. I would come with a couple crazy ideas to try when you go so you are not overwhelmed with all of the flavor options. It was a great experience and the owner was GREAT!
Jill_R, Feb 2024
I was looking for a fun experience for my friends birthday. The mad scientist cocktail lab didn’t disappoint. you start by picking your scientist name, which is anything except your actual name. Then you get to choose from almost any mixer, ingredient, infusion, technique, and tool under the sun. I got to play around with a smoking gun, infusions, and edible glitter. There are recipes or you can choose your own adventure. It was very approachable, the host was extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and incredibly organized. Would definitely go again!
Saul_C, Feb 2024
This isnt a cocktail class. Its very much a laboratory where you can experiment with exotic ingredients and expand your knowledge. Our host was funny and informative. Definitely coming back to test out some new cocktail experiments.
Ellen_K, Jan 2024
Dr. Double Shot & Master MOMnoon brought our six other family members here last night and concocted some delicious (and a couple not delicious) libations in the Mad Scientist Cocktail Lab. Be warned: this is NOT a mixology class! Who knew you could mix vodka w limeade, cardemom bitters, smoked orange peel, fresh cucumber, and I'm not even what else I put in there... and enjoy the result! SUPER FUN evening.
