Itinerary
Get ready to discover the original Emerald City, the city of Seattle, Washington, from its inception in the 1890s. This entertaining and educational underground voyage travels beneath the streets to uncover three blocks of historic, old Pioneer Square. Explore not only the underground passageways that were built more than 120 years ago, but also the modern Pioneer Square that exists today.
Make your way to 102 Cherry Street near Pioneer Street to start your tour. Hear tales from the past, including the story of the stampede to the Yukon gold fields and Seattle's crucial role in what would become the Klondike Gold Rush. Find out about Skid Row, a dilapidated urban area that served as the main street in Pioneer Square. And get to know the history of a group of people called the Coast Salish, the ethnically and linguistically related Indigenous peoples that first settled here.
The tour ends at Occidental Square.

- There are 3 flights of stairs, up and down each flight, throughout the one hour tour. We travel 4 blocks ( apporx. half a mile, .8k) at a leisurley pace during the one hour tour.

What a wonderful experience! We had such a great time getting to know the city and exploring the complex history and underground. We are both history nerds, so this was a perfect activity for us! Our tour guide was Mark, and we absolutely loved him! He was super funny and explained everything in a very understandable way.

I learned so many amazing things about Seattle and its founding! Our tour guide David was extremely knowledgeable and full of great stories about how Seattle was created and sustained. A very “must do” tour if you love history.
I talked to a number of locals who had not ever done the tour and they were awe struck by it all!

The history of the underrgound was fascinating. The biggest downfall to me personally was the group was too big so you couldn't really soak in the atmosphere and/or take photos without feeling like you were in someones' way. Sometimes the tour felt kind of rushed - but I am unaware if there was a time constraint.

This is an interesting tour for the curious. A bit over an hour and affordable. This will give a very good understanding of life in Seattle around the time of the big fire and its transformation after that. It offered a tour of the lower levels of Seattle and minimalist museum type exhibits along the way. A great advantage was the very knowledgable and charismatic tour leader Sarah. With two college degrees with one in History she was very engaged, easy to hear, and was respectfully accommodating to a hearing challenged person on the tour. I recommend this tour to get you downtown near the waterfront and get you moving with curiosity for your environs.

Great way to see a bit more of Seattle than you're normally able to. Exhibits in the waiting room were pretty neat, and the guide was knowledgeable and charismatic. Maybe a little pricier than I would've preferred knowing now what you get for the price, but neat and worth it nonetheless!

I expected more with the under the streets tour. Our tour guide Mike was the best part of the tour. He was exceptional and knew so many incredible facts. Without him I wouldn’t have enjoyed this tour very much at all. I was so excited to go on this tour but it was anticlimactic, especially having to walk above ground to get from place to place. Honestly I felt we spent more time above ground then below ground. I thought we were going to see more of how the folks lived and some of the original storefronts or something unique to the time periods. Other than a few scattered artifacts here and there it was just an underground basement with lower doorframes. Like I said without Mike the tour would have been boring. .

Fascinating history about the development of Seattle and touring part of the old city beneath the streets. Our tour guide, Sarah, was a highlight- so much information delivered quickly but easily heard and understood. Her knowledge was endless. She could carry a bar trivia team on her own. Go Mariners!

What a great experience. The guide was so knowledgeable about the history of Seattle. He had lots of anecdotal information to share, was humorous and pleasant. It was just over an hour, walking was minimal.

Fun and informative tour. Having a map to see where we were underground and representing what was there previously and the 3D concept of raising the city would have made information far more easily digestible.
