This was the most wonderful experience. For a long time my husband and I were the only ones there and there was just the crunch of our footsteps on the gravel. Our driver Paolo was fantastic and recommended a great place for lunch after about 3.5 hrs walking.
This is such a great visit. Few people do it because it’s out of Rome but I totally recommend it despite this and the cost. With this, and lunch, and a later visit to Villa D’Este it was a totally wonderful day made more wonderful because Paolo is such a great driver and very friendly.
( Note: when we travel we prefer to have a driver only and no guide)

Our driver and guide was Salvatore and he was fabulous. He gave us a great overview of the day, was very engaging and provided safe transportation. Our lunch at Sybila Restaurant was delicious. The pace of the day was perfect for us. However, Adriana’s Villa is huge and to be thorough would require more than two hours. The interior of the villa Estee could be skipped in favor of spending the two hours in the gardens. The fountains are spectacular.

This was an incredible place to visit. Our guide Paolo was the best. Super knowledgeable and very friendly. He made us lunch reservations at a great restaurant. If you’re on the fence about this tour don’t be just do it!

Very nice day trip out of Rome. Hadrians villa spectacular, be prepared for a lot of walking. We had a superb lunch at Sibilla in Tivoli dining outside next to a Roman temple. Our driver Giuliano was fabulous. He was an excellent driver, very friendly and knowledgeable. We had so much fun with him. Villa d’Estes huge, gorgeous rooms and ceilings. Lots of stairs and ramps to the fountains but beautiful.

This was a solo, private journey to the stunningly beautiful countryside and two Tivoli Italian Gardens, less than an hour from Rome, with an amazing, local and very knowledgeable driver!
My driver, Salvatore, grew up in Tivoli and his parents still live near there, so he’s intimately familiar with the area, which was obvious!
He picked me up at my hotel. We drove from Rome to Tivoli. He pointed out the sights along the way. He asked if I’d like him to make lunch plans for me. A Concierge at the Rome Marriott Hotel Grand Flora, with whom I’d spoken the day before, had done the same. She had already made me a reservation near Villa d’Este at Ristorante Sibilla, which she highly recommended. Salvatore laughed and said that was the place he was going to recommend as well!
He took me first to Villa Adriana. He walked me to the ticket office, helped me exchange my pre-purchased electronic ticket for a ticket, and helped me purchase the audio tour. They require an ID for that, which they hold until the audio box is returned. I had only my passport and was reluctant to leave that, so Salvatore gave them his ID. I was instructed to exchange the audio box for his ID at the ticket office when I was done, before I met him at the car. More on that later!
He told me where all of the toilet facilities are located, pointed out the entry gate, told me where to meet him when I was done, and gave me his phone number. I walked around the corner to the closest toilets, and he went back to the car.
As I stood at the end of the line of women who had gotten off a big bus, I wondered if the line would take too long and if I should skip that toilet and go to the next one. Before I could make up my mind, he came around the corner and told me to do that. He had been listening to something and realized there was a long line at the toilet. He was extremely helpful and proactive like this during the whole trip!
I was in awe of my surroundings during my entire walk around Villa Adriana! It was more amazing in person than I had imagined! But I’ll let you research that part on the internet! I texted with Salvatore a few times when I realized that I was going to be late getting back to the gate (I was lost … needed a GPS instead of a paper map!). He reassured me that I could take my time! He’d be there waiting! No rush!
After I returned to his car, stunned by what I had seen, still holding the audio box and not holding his ID), he had me sit down in the car and he made the exchange himself.
Next, he took me on a drive to see the beauty of the Tivoli area, complete with waterfalls, the first hydropower plant in Europe, and lots more picture-taking! After a tour of the Tivoli area, he took me to Ristorante Sibilla. He told me it’s been in business since 1720, it’s a family business and he knows the family! He parked and then walked me across the bridge to the restaurant and got me seated at an outdoor table instead of the indoor table that I’d reserved, worried about rain. It was a beautiful day, and the weather was perfect for enjoying the beautiful and dramatic scenery outdoors. He said he’d be back after lunch to get me.
I had a delicious lunch – breads with a tapenade, a Pear + Walnut salad and Eggplant Parmigiana (always one of my favorite dishes). I wish I could have their Eggplant Parmigiana recipe! I took lots of amazing photos while I waited to be served + between courses. The location was breathtaking!
Salvatore retrieved me after lunch and walked me back to the car. He drove me to Villa d’Este. Again, he parked, showed me where he’d be waiting for me, said to call or text if I couldn’t find him, walked me to the Villa, helped me with my ticket and the audio tour, and left his ID for them to hold.
Villa d’Este was as amazing as Villa Adriana, but in a totally different way. I’ll let you look that up on the internet as well!
This time, I remembered to turn in the audio box and retrieve his ID before I departed the Villa. I met Salvatore back at the car. We had a wonderful drive back to Rome, and he again pointed out the sights along the way. I arrived safe and happy back at my hotel after one of the most enjoyable and amazing days! A perfect last day for my trip!
Salvatore is absolutely THE BEST! He’s a very knowledgeable, personable, thoughtful, kind and caring person as well as an excellent driver! I can’t wait to go back and ride with him again!

Our excursion to Tivoli with Paolo was enjoyable and I highly recommend him as a driver. Paolo picked us up promptly and managed to arrange for us to have just the right amount of time at Hadrian's Villa and the Villa D' Este with a side trip to view the Gorge. He made reservations for our party of seven at the beautiful Ristorante Sibilla where the food was delicious. Paolo's patience, knowledge of the area, and careful driving also contributed to this pleasant and memorable experience.

We truly enjoyed our day visiting Handrian's Villa & Villa d'Este. Our private car was a very comfortable Mercedes SUV and the driver was very courteous and smooth. (Very different from Rome's taxi experiences.) From our experience, we were surprised that there wasn't a tour guide for us at Villa Adriana as noted in the listing. Villa d'Este, you are there to enjoy the fountains, so you don't need a guide. This is my only critique as I loved the experience, but we clearly needed a guide at Villa Adriana and were surprised when we were just let out of the car.

We had a great day trip to Tivoli where we visited Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este. We spent about 2 hours at each site, which was enough time. We also visited another site - Villa Gregoriana, where we saw the Temple of Sybil and had a walk in a beautiful forested area for 45 mins. Our private driver for the day was
Giuliano - he was fantastic. He speaks English well, which was a bonus. His car was very comfortable and clean. He was a very safe driver and he was prompt in picking us up at 9am, as well as attentive to our needs throughout the day. We thoroughly recommend Giuliano.
We also have think the price was good value for a private driver.

After some confusion about who was our driver, we met Paulo at the agreed spot and spent a day exploring Tivoli. It rained so the fountains at Villa d’este were turned off to avoid sediment and dirt from clogging the fountain or staining the monuments. It was still special. Hadrian’s Villa was amazing and you could walk so close to the monuments and explore. We appreciated Paulo’s flexibility as we decided to walk the mountain paths at Greggario instead of lunch downtown and have a simple picnic before leaving back to Rome. 5 stars and many more memories.

Livio, picked us up at our hotel promptly at 9am in his luxury sedan. This tour allows you to visit two sites in Tivoli: Hadrian’s Villa and Villa D’Este without having to deal with trains, buses etc. The visits themselves are independent and there was ample time for a lovely lunch at great restaurant with views of an ancient temple as suggested by our Livio. Both sights are fascinating and the Villa’s Renaissance gardens are magnificent. Livio dropped us at 5pm back at our hotel after a wonderful day in Tivoli.

I was a little hesitant to book this tour because of the price. But it was an amazing experience our driver and guide Claudio was great he text us the day before so we would have his number brought us A pastry when he picked us up, had water and sodas for us all day long on the trip helped us with entry into all of the attractions picked an amazing restaurant for our lunch very beautiful and very romantic. Gave us plenty of time and all the attractions never felt rushed or herded just an amazing experience.

It is a beautiful village, the ruins were amazing. Paolo, our guide was great. He provided a lot of information and took us to a great restaurant with a beautiful view. We even booked a night tour of Tome with him because we do enjoyed our day.

Paulo was a fantastic guide. Very knowledgeable and helpful and with excellent English. Everything was very easy for us. He took us to a lovely place for lunch. Definitely wear comfy shoes as there is a lot of walking. Hadrians Villa is vast. Maybe check the times of the organ fountain before you go so you can be in the garden of Villa d’Este at the right time -we missed it. All in all, a fantastic day out and worth the money to be on a private trip rather than in a group.

I would totally do it again- good value too. Claudio was considerate and helpful, it was super hot so he had cold water and coke for us. He thought about the heat and made some adjustments to the itinerary to benefit our experience. He was also patient with us as we took as much time as we did enjoying the amazing locations. Hadrian’s Villa, the Gregorian bridge then lunch before ending the day at Villa d’Este. Definitely worth it!

We had a fabulous time in Tivoli! Hadrian’s Villa was amazing as were the gardens at Villa D’Este. The history is so interesting and the sites were stunning. It was also less crowded than Rome so a nice break. Our driver, Giuliano was friendly, spoke perfect English and really helpful. He took us to a lovely spot with delicious food for lunch. All in all one of my favorite days in Rome so far!

This was our favorite excursion of our two week trip in Italy and Greece. Paolo was our guide for the day, and he really went above and beyond to make our experience wonderful. The ruins of Hadrian’s Villa was more like wandering through a park of interesting ruins. Paolo made us a lunch reservation at a very special restaurant in Tivoli which we all enjoyed. The fountains at Villa deEste are not to be missed. Unfortunately, it started pouring while we were walking through the gardens.However, , Paolo came to our rescue with rain ponchos he had purchased for each of us. Then the next day when our transfer van did not show up and we could not find anyone to bring us to our cruise ship, we called Paolo and he was able to find us another van to bring us. Our family recommends this excursion highly as well as Paolo as a guide while visiting Rome.

Our driver Claudio picked us up at our hotel right on time. He was very professional, caring and funny and does speak very good English. When you arrive at the actual sites like Villa Adriana and Villa d’Este, we had arangements for a private guide arranged thru the car service company. Their drivers are not tour guides within historic locations, but very knownlegable about the areas and cities and great places for lunch.

This was a wonderful tour. We were picked up at our apartment by Claudio who was courteous, informative and funny. He spent the entire day with us, always being patient with the kids. He recommended the best gelato place; walked us to the restaurant we picked and drove us back to the apartment with a smile on his face. It was a wonderful day.
