Ostia Antica, ancient port of Rome

Jane_S, Jan 2026
Ostia Antica gives a fascinating look at daily life in a Roman city. Very fine museum as well. Our guide, Rebecca, was very knowledgeable, clear in her explanations, and enthusiastic. Time well spent.

Friendly and knowledgeable tour guide. Great Insights to what was being seen. Ostia Antica is an unsung visit when in Rome. Every bit as impressive as Pompeii but without the tourist mobs and just a quick ride away.

The tour was fantastic, we couldn’t have had a better tour guide in Sonia. The ruins were well preserved and there was no one around so we had lots of time to look around and ask questions.

Ostia Antica - a hidden treasure.

Ostia Antica is a hidden treasure. There are no long queues and the place has a peaceful and welcoming ambience. Sonia, our tour guide, was very mindful of us, being older visitors, and constantly ensured we were safe and comfortable. She answered all our questions and shared her knowledge and expertise willingly.

Our tour guide, Sarah, was very knowledgeable and accommodating. She provided us an excellent and informative tour of Ostia Antica. We met outside of the Rome train station, and Sarah had a clearly marked sign indicating she was the Viator tour guide, making her easy to identify. Ostia Antica is an interesting and lightly traveled tourist destination. It was a very enjoyable get away from the city of Rome.

A Great Place to Visit and an Interesting Tour

Rob_V, Aug 2025
My family and I had a fantastic time exploring the port . The guide was very informative and shared little known facts about the history of the roman empire, taking time showing us around the site at our own pace. The overall experience was good, with the only issue being the slight lack of information relating to the start of the tour.

A tour through Ostia Antica with a very kind guide!

Celia shared so many amazing details about life in Ostia. I am a Latin teacher and I was impressed with her understanding of the ancient world. She was also charming and made our morning very enjoyable.

Sonija Perrera was our tour guide. She did a great job running the tour. We had a great time! The site reminded us of Pompeii, but was much closer to Rome and not crowded by tourists. The small, semi-private tour was a very good setting for us.

Visit this place - it's a must!

Jacob_R, May 2025
What an amazing morning spent in this historical Roman city. We couldn't believe how intact this city is and how few people know about it! Our guide, Sarah, was so passionate and informative; she went the extra mile on this informative and entertaining tour. We absolutely loved being in her company and learning so much about this hidden gem.

Ostia Antica with Sonia

My teenaged son and I had a great tour with Sonia P. as our guide. Highly recommended. Sonia is very knowledgeable and took us throughout the expansive ruins, providing lots of insights about the daily lives of the ancient Romans. If you’re a history enthusiast, you will love this informative tour. It was also nice to get away from the crowded attractions of downtown Rome.

Really enjoyed walking around the ancient roads of Ostia and into the ruins of the buildings. Our guide (Sarah) really brought the port to life with her excellent knowledge and stories. Sarah was also very helpful about other Roman experiences on offer.

You get a better idea of what Ancient Rome was like after visiting Ostia Antica than any other site in Rome! After chaotic and busy first day in the city center, Ostia Antica was a welcomed space of tranquility—few tourists and plenty of space to go your own way. Our tour guide was knowledgeable, personable, and completed the experience.

She her took time taking us around the site, explaining in amazing detail what things were and how things were done. Would highly recommend visiting this site and tour.

A beautiful break from busy Rome

Alan_C, May 2024
Ostia Antica was a pleasant day out of the city - quiet, green, and open. The theatre and mosaics are beautiful. Walking the streets of the ancient city brought the history to life. Sara, our guide, was excellent. She had many engaging stories to share. And we ended the day with a quick trip down to the beach, just a few stops further along.

We were lucky: a beautiful, sunny day and a fascinating visit, well cobducted

Colin_S, Mar 2024
Ostia Antica We took two trains to see the ancient port: Ostia Antica. We met our guide Upon the way, Claudia, born and taught In Chile, spoke about it on the ride. We walked the old port in the morning sun From end to end, three miles of history Three thousand years since first it was begun While Claudia revealed its mystery. The lives of Romans who lived there revealed The buildings echoed with their long lost voice And we were glad that we had made this choice. A lovely day, with sun and interest. A pleasant tour, a guide who did her best.
