If you're using Subway/Metro, get off at the Piramide station and take the PIAZZALE OSTIENSE exit. Once you're outside, the meeting point will be on your left-hand side. The check-in begins at 8:30, we depart at 8:45. We use the train and cannot wait for latecomers.

Joan was a terrific tour guide. My husband and I were impressed about all the history we learned about Ostia Antiqua. The castle visit was such a cherry on top - we felt like we walked into a Disney movie. Highly Recommend for sure !!

An unknown treasure of ruins. A MUST SEE

This was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. If you’re into ruins, you must go. We were initially bummed to hear that Pompeii would be a 3.5 hour train ride away and was not feasible in our timeline. This came up as a great alternative in a random guide book that we found, but should honestly be as famous in our opinion. We met our fabulous guide, Camille (who is a real-life, working marine archaeologist with an insane amount of knowledge) at the metro station and was only $7, 25min train ride directly to the ruins. When I tell you, we were not expecting to see what we saw! It was a fully-fledged city of ruins. Fully intact mosaic bathhouses, theatre, bar, market stalls, columns, heating elements, public restrooms. The entire thing is full-access. Nothing is off limits and you can fully roam through the entire thing. It blew us away and we wish we could’ve spent even more days exploring this wonderful site. If you can request Camille, I would recommend her x10 over bc she was a joy.

Our guide Camille is an architecture graduate and her knowledge and passion for history, art, and architecture made our tour truly outstanding. She brought each site to life with fascinating stories and context, and drew our attention to interesting details we never would have noticed on our own!! I cannot understand why Ostia antica is not as popular as other tourist sites. It deserves far more attention as it similar to Pompeii but so close to Rome and more manageable in scale. Camille was made the tour of this beautiful hidden gem both engaging and unforgettable. Highly recommended!!

One of the best tours I've ever taken. A very small group with a personalized experience. Our guide - Sonia was AWESOMETACULAR! Not only she was knowledgeable about Ostia Antica and Roman history in general, but she was very personable and answered all our questions with ease. Ostia Antica is a hidden gem of ancient sites around Rome, I highly recommend the experience for all history buffs 😀

Great day outside Rome

Ostia Antica was a lot of fun. Seeing a well preserved 2000 year old ancient city without the crowds of Rome was a treat. The train ride was relatively short and easy to navigate. Our guide Sonia was very knowledgeable and had a great personality. She is actually writing her thesis on Ostia Antica, so we felt we had an expert at our disposal — we were the only group on the tour! After the tour, Sonia recommended we take the train another three stops to have lunch at the coast — so glad we did, as we had some great seafood pasta while overlooking the sailboats on the greenish blue water of the mediterranean. What a treat!

Ostia Antica is a very well preserved site, apparently not so much visited by large tourist groups so it is possible to take time to appreciate the layout and buildings of the city.

This site is a hidden gem. We had a very knowledgeable guide who met us as a train station and guided us through the ruins. The site is 2/3 larger than Pompeii. We really enjoyed it. Highly recommended.

Our guide Rebecca was exceptional and her knowledge of the archology work and history of the city made the tour exciting for us. I would recommend anyone with a mobility disability to think twice before taking this tour, and I would suggest to the tour company to think about developing a tour for people with mobility disabilities.

Don't overlook in favor of pompei

In many ways more enjoyable than Pompei. You can interact more and go at a slower pace. Some sights are not well marked. I tried to find the synagogue after the tour, got close but wound up going in circles

Rebecca was so knowledgeable and passionate. She showed us some interesting things, including some surprises, and really took care of us. Ostia is large than you might expect and is in great condition. There were also two trainee tour guides shadowing Rebecca. Given their knowledge and passion I think they are being great. And were also able to add additional information from their expertise.

This really is the most astonishing place to visit and a tour guide brings it all to life. Ours, Rebecca, was friendly, knowledgeable, relaxed and patient, making our visit feel really special. To walk around and even upon the marble mosaics, historic sites and remarkable structures might just be unique. 100% recommended, a peaceful delight.

A must when visiting Rome

This tour was amazing. Our guide met us at the metro station, travelled with us to Ostia Antica, lead us around for 4+ hours at the site, and had the option of going back on the train to Rome with them. We chose to go to the beach, only 3 stops from Ostia Antica. The tour guide, Sonia, is very knowledgeable of the site (working on her second Masters of the area) and delivers her knowledge in a very interesting and informative manner. The pace is great and the site is very worth the time to visit. I highly recommend this tour and guide.

Amazing tour of Ostia Antica

Sonia was incredible. She is studying for Master's degree in the conservation of Ostia Antica. The depth and breadth of her knowledge and live of Ostia Antica was clearly evident. We spent over 4 hours walking, talking and learning. It was a cool, windy day and I was very glad for the break inside the cage and our look inside the book shop. I would love to come back for another tour of Ostia Antica. The round trip on the train was very easy

Wonderful way to experience an ancient city up close. Baths, bakeries, markets, homes, temples and even very ancient toilets. Away from the hustle and bustle of Rome, but very much a Roman experience.
