This tour offers 2 options: 1. Semi-Private Tour: Pickup directly from the pier where your ship docks. 2. Group Tour: Pickup from Largo della Pace cruise terminal. If you choose Semi-Private tour, it will depart straight from the pier for a seamless start to your adventure. If you select Group Tour, simply take the free shuttle bus from the pier to the Largo della Pace terminal, where we will meet you for pickup. Please note that the pickup time may be adjusted and will be communicated to you closer to the tour date. The driver that met us at the ship was late and did not speak any English. We were in the dark until we got to Rome as to where we were going or what we were going to do. The description of the tour listed a visit inside St. Peter’s Basilica but that was not possible. The guide and driver did accommodate a special request we had. There was good and bad regarding the tour but u could not recommend it to anyone especially taking into account the price.

1. The tour description and inclusions do not indicate any driver commentary during the transfer to and from Rome. The services of a fully certified, English-speaking guide are provided once in Rome.
2. As stated in the description and additional information, no interior visits are included in the tour. Due to the limited time cruise ships spend in Civitavecchia and the port’s distance from Rome, there is simply not enough time to include indoor attractions. If you wish to explore interiors, we strongly recommend visiting Rome by air and allowing more time than a short shore excursion permits.
When booking activities through Viator, we kindly recommend basing expectations on the official tour description, itinerary, and inclusions rather than personal assumptions.

There is quite a bit of walking, which I think took a few people by surprise. I would encourage everyone to closely read about the excursions you plan on taking! It was not an issue for me and my husband.

The tour guides were really nice. It started over an hour late due to other group members ran late causing us no time to get souvenirs or time to look at the points of interest. It is a bonus that they picked us up at our cruise ship and brought us back.

The tour operator did not give proper information on where to meet. We almost missed the tour. We were put on a bus with 140 other people in the back. We were told had to rebook the tour because not enough people signed up. So we rebooked the same tour for $404 which should have been smaller group tour. We were not happy. Usually Viator provides better service.

1. The pickup details for this tour are clearly provided on the Viator website 24/7. For semi-private tours, pickup is directly at the pier, while for shared group tours, pickup is at Largo della Pace Cruise Terminal. This information is also sent to guests by email and phone in advance, including the contact details of our port tour coordinator, in case of any difficulty. Despite these instructions, some travelers still occasionally experience confusion upon arrival.
2. Canceling and rebooking the same tour does not serve any purpose. If your previous booking with another supplier was canceled due to an insufficient number of participants, Viator may have suggested this tour as an alternative.
3. This tour does not offer “small group” options providing only two formats: premium semi-private tours and budget shared group tours.
4. There are no busses that can accommodate 140 people
When planning future activities, please ensure your expectations align with the detailed tour description and listed inclusions provided at the time of booking. Safe travels!

The tour itself was fine. Nothing outstanding. It manages to accomplish a cursory exploration of major sites without an intense amount of walking. Don’t waste money on semi-private for 6 person max because the tour provider does not honor this. We paid extra for this and there were 8 participants booked in our tour. The tour provider refused to refund the $85+ cost difference.

We paid for a small group of 6 tour & ended up with a group of 14 as we were joined by another car of 8. They were late which delayed our excursion start by about 30 minutes & I was very disappointed that I thought we had paid for a group of 6 to tour with & had a larger group to maneuver about Rome with.... (was delayed twice because of the 2nd group). The tour guide & our tour of Rome was excellent. (I would like some clarification about the tour changing from 6 to 14 people - I would recommend the excursion but not sure about the small group if it means you are going to be joined with other small groups. This was not what I thought we were paying extra for??? I really feel like we should get some money back for the larger tour group &/or that it should be mentioned in the description that it is a car for 6 & not a tour group of 6 you are paying for.... Again, The tour guide & the tour of Rome was excellent.

A long day that packed in some of the 'big' landmarks around Rome as well as some lesser known sites with an informative guide who loved sharing detail about his city. It's a long day and it is more of a flying visit to a lot of sights, but good if you've never been to Rome before and want tommaximise your port day from the cruise ships with as many sights as you can.

While Julia was a kind and personable tour guide, unfortunately, our experience did not meet our expectations. The tour felt rushed, and rather than focusing on the highlights of Rome, it felt more like a race to see everything. We struggled to fully enjoy the experience, as there was limited opportunity to stop and appreciate the sites or take photos. Despite informing the company ahead of time that our group consisted of six people, including an elderly participant and two children, we still felt as though we were being hurried along and it was just us in the group. We ended up taking a taxi from our lunch stop to Vatican City because the walk was impossible with our situation, we had no idea this would be necessary.
Throughout the tour, we felt there was a lack of balance between providing information and allowing the group to absorb the experience. We would have appreciated a slower pace, with more time spent at the major sites to take in the view, take photos, and focus on the key points of history. The continuous commentary and the questions about the topics felt overwhelming especially with her thick accent and all the noise of the crowds.
Additionally, incorporating planned stops in shaded areas or places where we could take group photos would have enhanced the experience, especially considering that some people may only have one chance to visit such iconic landmarks. You'd have thought she was paid in how quickly she could move us from one site to the next without giving us a chance to look or take photos.
While Julia’s warmth was appreciated, we believe the tour could be improved with a more thoughtful approach, particularly for diverse groups, including families and older adults. At the end of the tour, Julia made me feel uncomfortable when she mentioned that her group of 40 people the day before completed the same tour in 2.5 hours. The comparison seemed unnecessary, as we believe it’s not a race or competition to experience the history and beauty of Rome.
We were also disappointed by the lunch stop, which we felt was not at all memorable. The pasta and pizza were bland and did not reflect the quality of food we had hoped to experience during our visit.

1. The tour description clearly states that this tour is not wheelchair or scooter accessible, and not recommended for individuals with limited walking ability, such as your father. We made an exception by accepting his participation as a gesture of goodwill, and unfortunately received your negative review as a result. We will need to reconsider making such exceptions in the future to ensure a smooth experience for all participants.
2. The center of Rome is not accessible to tourist buses, which is why this area is mostly pedestrian only.
3. If you wish to explore one of the most visited cities in the world at a more relaxed pace, we recommend returning by air and spending more time. Alternatively, you may want to address this concern to your cruise line, which only allows us 7 hours for the entire tour, including 3 hours spent on transfers to and from Civitavecchia.
4. There is no time for a sit-down lunch during this tour. As noted in the itinerary, lunch is not included, and participants typically grab a quick snack, pizza, or coffee during free time.
5. If you prefer more flexibility, we suggest booking a private tour instead of a shared one. While the cost is approximately three times higher, it may save you an additional 40 minutes in Rome and allow for a more customized experience.

There were 6 of us in the group from the Disney Cruise. We got picked up right outside the ship, and our driver met with us with our tour guide. Our tour guide Kate was patient and very knowledgeable. She took time to explain everything. Kate and our driver also made a reservation for us in one of the restaurants. Didn't realize we needed tickets to go inside the coliseum, next time. Wish we were also able to go inside the Vatican/church (but that's ok). We visited many other places which was awesome! It was hot and walking as expected but we stooped and drove plenty of times so it was not a bad walk at all. In fact, it was the easiest walk in all our tours. If you're familiar fit, this would be an easy walk for you. Just make sure to wear comfortable shoes and hydrate. Kate was awesome! I feel bad forgot our driver's name. He dropped us off right infront of our ship as well. Till next time!

Can't complain about the operator or the guide. They did a good job. Only issue with them is about the meeting time. Instructions said 8am local time but they arrived at 945am. We thought we missed the tour as nobody was there.
I have major issue with the "Get Directions" link of this tour. It made us walk from shuttle drop off about 20 mins just for us to find ourselves in a construction site. After making many phone calls, got routed back to the shuttle drop off itself.

Unfortunately, the time available is limited by the cruise ship's schedule in Civitavecchia, which allows for just 7 hours ashore—3 of which are spent on the round-trip transfer, leaving only about 4 hours to explore one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
If you wish to explore Rome at a more relaxed pace, we strongly recommend returning by air for a longer stay, or perhaps sharing your feedback with the cruise line to encourage extended port time in Civitavecchia.

This time of the year is pretty hectic due to the Lenten Season. Our tour guide Elizabeth was extremely helpful in making sure we saw all the aforementioned highlights, which we did. We have been to Rome about 15 years ago and it remains a great visit for us. To all who plan to take this tour, check the weather prior and dress appropriately and wear the most comfortable walking/hiking shoes.
I would like to particularly mention Ricardo who was in the tour bus with us. My husband never used a crossbody man purse before but had to because his cellphone and his sunglasses wouldn’t fit in my crossbody bag. Sure enough, he put it down on the floor of the bus when taking off his jacket while in the bus and completely forgot about it when we got off. Got back to the cruise port and took the last shuttle to the cruise ship when I noticed he didn’t have his bag with him. We hurriedly exited the shuttle bus to try to catch the tour bus but it was gone! I immediately contacted Ricardo (thank goodness for WhatsApp) who was so quick to respond and had the driver turn around. Alll went well, hubby got his bag and the driver was compensated ❤️

The ride includes tunnels, hills, and heights! We had an excellent driver and tour guide who assured the group of safety. Our guide (Lucca) is a historian and provided informative, passionate narration. I loved this tour and cannot wait to return to Serrano and Positano.

Expect large crowds and a lot of time spent in traffic. The guide and drivers were pleasant and knowledgeable. We did get to see the sights listed in the ads but I didn't find it to be a gratifying experience. Overpriced for sure.

Rome is truly a must-see and must-explore city. Unfortunately, major cruise line visits allow only a brief "taste" of Rome.
