People go to Rome for the Colosseum and Trevi and Pantheon; but there’s more to Rome. This bike excursion was a wonderful way to see outside the city walls, travel the Appian Way like Spartacus and Saint Peter, admire the engineering brilliance from 2000 years ago, and enjoy fresh air and quiet parks. We saw sheep crossing, turtles sun basking, a man practicing his trumpet in the park, children playing soccer, dogs playing fetch, a gladiator enthusiast club practicing for the upcoming holiday performance, a tennis club… but the highlight of the tour was Alex, our guide. He was extremely knowledgeable, engaging, funny, and flexible. He took some amazing family photos for us that we will cherish forever! He kept us safe, was patient, and we truly enjoyed chatting with him at lunch (bruschetta, pasta with red sauce, water). If you can remember to request him, I strongly suggest you do.
I’ve been to Rome four times and this was my first time doing a tour like this— it’s an absolute must and I regret not doing it sooner.

A great way to see more of Rome. The ride is over some cobblestones at times so a bit bumpy but a nice ride. Lorenzo was very personable, patient, and had a sense of humor that was appreciated.

It was wonderful to ride around enjoying the history of the area with stops for pictures. I would highly recommend this tour. We had so much fun and our guide was so knowledgeable and friendly. Thank you STAR bikes.

This was an excellent half day (approx 5 hours) activity, skillfully led by our guide, Iman, who was friendly and attentive at all times, ensuring we knew what to expect at each stage of the ride. Prior to departing, we were given clear instructions on how the bikes worked and also had the opportunity for a brief test-ride. This was our first experience of e-bikes and they were very easy to use (and definitely took all the pain out of any inclines!)
The additional stop at the catacombs is well worth doing. Iman sorted the tickets and then left us in the capable hands of the official guide who lead us into the catacombs for an awe-inspiring and very informative tour (approx 45 mins long).
Iman stayed with the bikes, looking after our possessions (safely housed in handlebar bags) and we continued with the ride, stopping along the way for Iman to point out ancient walls, buildings and the aqueduct.
The Appian Way is an ancient cobbled road, be prepared for some bone rattling! A stretch of approx 1 Km is the original very large and very uneven cobbles. Iman prepared us for this section prior, explaining that it was probably the most challenging part of the 23Km ride, and navigated us through them expertly. He was very patient when riders preferred to push bikes along rather than ride and made sure he checked in on any stragglers.
There was not a great deal of road-riding, but each time, Iman made sure we knew what was coming and guided us safely.
The brunch was better than I had expected, in a local cafe, and consisted of a variety of sandwiches and pastries and a non-alcoholic drink. (Dietary requirements were checked at the beginning of the day to ensure they were catered for).
As with any cycle ride, expect some saddle-soreness, especially given the cobbly nature of much of the route (and saddles which were not at all forgiving!). However, don't let this put you off as I would 100% recommend the tour and would gladly do it again myself. (Worst case scenario, bring your own cushioned saddle-cover!)

It was a neat ride, but very long. It is a full 5 hours of biking with some stops. The e-bikes makes it easy, and the guide knows what he’s doing, but at 100 degrees in Rome, it was rough! Also, you should know that “brunch” was actually just cold cut sandwiches served just after 1 pm at a bar. We had expected something earlier and skipped breakfast, which wasn’t ideal. We had booked a private tour, and I definitely overpaid by a lot for the experience. My boys did enjoy the guide and had a good attitude about it.

I loved this tour - Marco was an informative and entertaining guide. He was careful to keep our small group together. It was a part of Rome I had never seen before. The biking was easy - first time on an e-bike and did ok. It was mostly in parks and not scary.
I would have given 5* but ‘brunch’ was extremely disappointing. Three types of sandwiches on white, store bought bread. Two sandwiches were one small slice of pork salami (which I don’t eat) and a slice of American style cheese. Do better - margarita pizza or cheucertie? Anything but these terrible sandwiches.

We had a great time! Myself and my two sons, ages 18 and 20. Highly recommend the tour to get to see the Roman countryside, the Appian Way, aquaducts and other sites we would not have seen otherwise - as well as get some exercise. Our guides Lorenzo and Paulo were excellent and Lorenzo shared so much interesting information along the way. Lunch sandwiches and biscuits were delicious. Highly recommend!

Wow! This was fun. I will start by saying that we rode bikes for about 5 hours. If you aren’t up for that, then this isn’t the tour for you. That being said, they were e-bikes. This was my first time using an e-bike. Wow! It was super cool! It made the hills really easy. Going by bike was definitely the way to see everything. We started with the Catacombs tour. They already had our tickets waiting, and we went right in. After that, we rode out the Appian Way, which was so cool. We saw the ancient aqueduct and had time to take photos. We also stopped along the way to learn about the things we were seeing. They told us all the cool stories and history. On the way back, there was a stop for a light lunch. It wasn’t anything to write home about, but it was a nice end to a great tour. Overall, this was a wonderful way to spend the day. We couldn’t have seen this any other way. If you are interested in these sights, this is a really great tour.

It’s great to hear you think this is the best way to see these sights. We hope to welcome you back on another adventure soon!

Brilliant tour- Iman was knowledgeable and very engaging. A must-do whilst in Rome to get a different experience from touring the city itself. E-bikes made the trip easy and fun.

Who could not enjoy this beautiful experience! A ride to the Catacombs of Sebastian with a designated informative tour prearranged by our guides. Our guide was thoroughly knowledgeable about Roma and led us through Rome traffic safely and securely. The parks were wonderful an not crowded. Lunch between two ancient aqueducts! Our e-bikes were easily ridden by diverse ages. 8 people in our group. It was an experience that we could not have had except by bicycle! It was simply GREAT!

Hadn’t cycled for years, and had never been on an e-bike. Lorenzo made certain I was ok, and gave me the confidence to have the best day of our holiday in Rome. Thoroughly recommend as a contrast to City sight-seeing.

Exceptional ride out of the city and enjoyed the antiquities along the way, with Flavio’s informative comments and congenial personality!

Kan varmt anbefales. Vi tog turen i maj og havde fantastisk cykelvejr. Meget spændende fortællinger fra guide. Det er en god idé at kunne cykle og ikke være bange for at cykle på lidt udfordrende veje :-)
