Lots of interesting history about a historic hotel and the tunnels underneath Old Town. Great guide. If you're claustrophobic, this may not be your thing. The pizza place and brewery at the end are very good.

Natasha was an incredible tour guide—engaging, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about history, not just locally but across many states and countries. Her enthusiasm was contagious, bringing stories to life in a way that made every stop feel meaningful and memorable. She also created a fun, slightly eerie atmosphere with her “haunted” décor, adding just the right touch of spooky charm without overdoing it. I especially enjoyed learning about the history of the Merchant Hotel—it was fascinating and full of details I would have never discovered on my own. And as a bonus, the beer was excellent! This tour was the perfect mix of history, storytelling, and fun. Highly recommend!

History, Hauntings & Great Pizza!

Nikita_P, Jul 2026
Doug was an amazing tour guide for our Shanghai Tunnel tour! He was knowledgeable, engaging, and brought the history—both factual and supernatural—to life with great energy and humor. Our group was small, which made the experience feel more relaxed and personal, and there was plenty of opportunity to ask questions along the way. The pizza and beer afterward were a great bonus and the perfect way to wrap up the tour. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting Portland!

Fun tour underground

Interesting not well known history. Has elements of a ghost tour that was completely apparent in the description

Great guide and interesting history.

If you're visiting Portland, this tour is an absolute must! Skippy was an outstanding guide—his knowledge of the tunnel's history was incredible, and he brought the stories to life with fascinating details, photos, and vivid explanations that made the experience unforgettable. The tour begins at the pizza shop, where we were welcomed by Anne, the bartender. She was so warm, friendly, and genuinely welcoming that she set the perfect tone for the experience. Her positive attitude and great hospitality made us feel right at home. Between Skippy's exceptional storytelling and Anne's wonderful service, this was one of the highlights of our trip. I can't recommend it highly enough!

Really lame….

Karen_L, Jun 2026
The most lame tour I’ve ever been on. I don’t think it was the tour guide’s fault as much as it was that there’s really no story to tell. We just walked thru the basement level of the building, in the dark, while he told ghost stories. It was really two hours of my life I can’t get back.

A good ghost story. I was there more for the history of the building and why the tunnels. Both were good. Something to do on a free afternoon/evening. Stay and order the Delicious pizza afterwards.

Real History

I had a great time as a solo traveler joining several couples and families on this tour. Our guide was knowledgeable, conscientious, and funny. I didn’t see any ghosts, but the tunnels themselves are plenty spooky; and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the darker side of the city’s history.

Great tour!!

Tour of dusty basement, bad hotel, terrible ghost tour

Steve_H, Jun 2026
No tunnels were explored. You basically just walk around a dusty basement below the pizza place. We also were led around a newly purchased hotel by the same owner of the pizza place and just told history of Portland not featuring any ghost tales. It was clearly to take up time because they do not have enough content for 90 minutes. The leader Sue had no charisma, mocked people who did believe in ghosts (crazy is what she said), and also showed us bad photos quickly on an iPad and iPhone. Most of it was lens flare, pareidolia, image artifacts, or super imposed images. It was a huge disappointment. The beer tasting at the end was in a dramaticized saloon, with two small beer pours. Then we all got a can to go when we left the parlor. A total joke. Stay away.

If you need to occupy 90 minutes

Melissa_S, Jun 2026
This was just an ok tour. A good way to kill time in Portland but it seems like the tour script was created just to capitalize on the the damp basement under the building. The tour guide was a bit too chatty and dramatic but we liked it when she told the historical facts - without the drama. Beer sample at the end of the tour was warm.

Great tour highly recommend

This was a great tour. Almost the entire tour was underground in the tunnels which was more than I expected.

Great tour

Sarena_M, May 2026
Very cool experience. We enjoyed the history and the portion of the tour under the restaurant. As a heads up, there are some narrow stairs. It’s a good idea to wear comfortable shoes. It was spooky and fun to do the beer tasting at the little bar underground at the end.

Caitlin is the best!

Aidan_S, May 2026
Caitlin was great. She knows her stuff and made the experience more worth it than we expected. Would love to see more tours from her as a guide!

Funnest tour yet!

Great focus on the dark history of Portland

Michelle_M, May 2026
The tour had a strong focus on the dark history of Portland. Natasha did a great job and was very engaging. The also had two different beers to try. One of the best ghost tours I have been on.

Not as good as Seattle underground

It was ok. Couldn’t understand what our tour guide was saying. She was playing a part but couldn’t understand script

Tiffany_G, May 2026
A must do when in town. The walk was easy and the tour guide was great. She had lots of knowledge and made the tour fun and interesting.

Not a ghost tour

Elizabeth_T, May 2026
I have been to multiple ghost tours in numerous states and this wss by far my least favorite. It truly was not a ghost tour at all. We literally heard one story about one ghost in the first 15 min of the tour and the rest was 'history' about the Portland underground and shipping to China. The incessant chatter of the guide took away from what should have been a moody, creepy experience. The food at the pizza restaurant affiliated with the tour, however, was tasty. Stop by the restaurant and skip the tour.

Dark tunnel history with Nina, the resident ghost.

Peggy, Apr 2026
Natasha was our guide through the tunnel in the basement of Old Town Pizza & Brewing. She shared a wealth of history of the Shanghai tunnels and the dark history that happened in the tunnels used to nab unsuspecting sailors. Even though it isn’t too spooky, you may feel a presence of Nina, a resident of the tunnel for over a 100 years. Natasha did a fantastic job sharing the history, keeping everyone safe, and on the lookout for the resident ghost Nina. The sampling of beer in the tunnel was a nice touch. Included a pint glass of beer at Old Town Pizza after. We ordered a pizza to go with our beer. Both very good. Natasha made this evening an educational evening and a little spooky. Fun tour.

Kevin_O, Apr 2026
Fun and educational to see underground Portland. The samples of beer were nice, it was not the focus of the tour however Good for end of day as the pizza place above the tunnels had great food and reall hit the spot!

Not worth it

Brian_R, Apr 2026
Not worth the time or money. Short tour under one building, none of the information ℹ️ that you might want to know just b.s.
