The transportation was seamless and timely. Our bus driver was courteous and provided great information about Louisiana during the ride to the plantation. Also, the courtesy call in the morning to confirm the pick up
Spot l, provide the name of the driver and a description of the bus was very much appreciated. I requested reserved seats for my hearing impaired family and they were very accommodating. I would definitely recommend!!

Viator called the morning of the tour to ensure I knew the time of my pick up, what the bus looked like and who the driver would be.
Edward was informative and very entertaining. He spoke clearly and at a good volume. He was very clear about what we needed to do to start our tour and exactly when he would return for us.
The tour itself was both fascinating and heartbreaking due to the subject matter. The staff were polite and helpful. It was such a meaningful experience!
If you are going, remember sunscreen and a hat or umbrella because there are areas of no shade. If you’re doing the self-guided tour, try to adjust your speed to maintain distance from the guided tours so you can hear the auto guide player. Do the interior exhibits first if you have time because that will help you put everything into context better.

Mostly a self guided tour. The bus driver shared some interesting stuff enroute. The tour was great for learning history about enslavement and plantation life.

The ride to the Whitney Plantation had good commentary. I did learn some things about Louisiana. I was just a little underwhelmed by the tour because it is with a hand held device and the tour with the guides was much better. I would probably do that type of tour if I had known the difference ahead of time. The other thing that is missing here is that you do not see the inside of the big house where the owners lived, so there is no real juxtaposition between the two worlds. You do get to see how the slaves lived and the terrible conditions, but somehow, since the grounds aren’t kept up, it’s hard to imagine how the plantation actually looked at the time. Maybe I should have gone on a 2 plantation tour. There was a nice gift shop, but since the tour is 5 hours, bring something to eat as choices are very limited at the plantation.

It was an incredible experience. Make sure you have your walking shoes on and your ears are open……..

Educational and moving experience. My friend and I were very humbled by the memorials of so many slaves, even children.

This was an amazing tour! Our bus driver was very knowledgeable and I liked that we got to go at our own pace once we were at the plantation. The content was so important, I definitely wanted time to sit with it and reflect. I had plenty of time to do the tour. A must do if you are in New Orleans!

Very educational. Outdoor walking so weather is important to consider. Some benches. Audio tour was good. There were no USB ports on bus. Scenic route out and highway back. Hotel pickup was good.

Unfortunately, I was never picked up for my tour. After waiting for close to one hour at the pick up stop a Viator operator was finally able to reach the tour operator to find out that my reservation was not in the system due to weekend hours. I could have gone with somebody else and still see the plantation…Disappointing.

Really focussed on the lives of enslaved people. Practically nothing about the owners and the main house. Very interesting.

To walk the same grounds as my ancestors was eye opening. The experience, the knowledge are things I will never forget. The driver Edward was also amazing, so full of knowledge.

I really enjoyed the Whitney Plantation tour. It was mostly a self guided tour but I think the exhibits and audio guide were excellent. I liked that the tour focused on slavery and included stories from slaves who had worked on the plantation. I also enjoyed the bus ride from NOLA to the plantation, the scene of the swamps and Lake Ponchartrain was beautiful.

I traveled alone and did the self guided tour and it was great. The tour is well organized and staff was very nice.

This is the only tour of a plantation in New Orleans that focuses exclusively on the lives of the enslaved people who lived and worked there. Seeing the slave cabins, the metal spiked collars used on those who tried to escape, the beautifully wrought statues of children, the cages and more. The suffering inflicted on these men, women and children was painful to see and made us very angry. We read about the 1811 German Coast uprising prior to the visit. The replicas of the heads on pikes graphically showed the brutality of the plantation owners. The self guided audio tour was very good and detailed. We appreciated the displays on the transatlantic slave trade and those about the multiple 18th century revolts and other forms of resistance. There is an excellent bookstore and shop. As we rode the bus to the Whitney, our tour guide, Edward provided an ongoing description and history of the areas we traveled through. He explained and pointed to examples of the massive damages from Hurricane Katrina. Edward explained how sugar cane was harvested by the slaves using machetes and how backbreaking and dangerous it was. We also were able to see how it is harvested now by machines. He pointed out "cancer alley" near the manufacturing plants. That area had long been used as a toxic dumping ground very close to where people lived. One of the passengers told us her father had worked in one of these plants with little safety measures and no regulation at all. Edward described and pointed out the levees, the bridges, the trees and much more, providing us a wealth of information. He also had comments on the local sports teams and joked around some. We benefitted from his 25+ years as a guide. We highly recommend this tour provided by Legendary Tours.

Very good! Very instructive, the driver was on time. Give us a lot of explanation, slowly and clearly. I will never forget that moment. Will back soon

Self Guided Tour with audio. Very beautiful grounds with a sadness associated with it. Tour took about 2 hours, total of 5 hours with drive time. Informative driver. They were a few minutes late but kept in contact with us. Great Tour Company!

Fascinating and informative experience, focusing on the real lives and drama of the slaved African Americans

My tour guide, Edward, was absolutely awesome!!! Pick up was on time. He was very knowledgeable and funny!! The tour company even called to confirm and provide additional information to prepare for the tour the day before.
The Whitney Plantation Tour was great! First time using the audio guide method. The audio was clear and provided alot of information. The grounds were maintained. It was a great experience to learn more about this Louisiana time period.

It was an eye opener I learned things I didn't know or quite understood. The staff was very polite friendly and professional

Great tour! Just a great learning experience for all ages. The sad truth of the history is sobering and extremely sad but everyone should know it. Edward was a wonderful guide! 5 stars!

It was a very educational experience. Easy signage get around property. i wish tour was led by a guide and not handheld device.

The tour was of the Whitney mansion. The mansion itself was not renovated like others, so that was a disappointment. Also, guests should know this is not a guided tour as described. Upon arrival, there's no maps, just a handheld speaker of attractions as you wander around. Also, driver was interesting but talked so fast we could not follow all of it. Would recommend another guided tour.
Ellen_K, Sep 2025
Very different from other plantation experiences as this is told from the slave point of view rather than glorifying the plantation owners and the plantation system. Quite moving.
Sharnay_P, Sep 2025
This tour is a must see for everyone to experience. If you book this tour you will not be disappointed. The driver Brian that drove us to the tour was very knowledgeable and kept the audience laughing. He is truly the GOAT of his profession.
