Mystery Tour back country of Monument Valley

cheryl_s, Nov 2025
It’s a rough road and 8 miles of highway driving to get to the destination. Sariah was full of information and answered all our questions

Great tour to get into the backcountry of Monument Valley to see unique landscapes and Native American history! Will was a very informative guide and explained Navajo history in great detail! Trip was fantastic!

Don’t Miss Out on Mystery Valley

If you’re hesitating, take this as your sign to book the tour. While I absolutely love Monument Valley, Mystery Valley is something so special that you won’t regret the small detour. As it’s only accessible by Navajo Tour Guide, this is the one you want to pick. My husband and I were lucky enough to get the vehicle to ourselves, and our experience ended up feeling very personal. Our guide made us feel comfortable to ask all kinds of silly questions, cracked some jokes, and narrated a fantastic explanation of Navajo culture in relation to the landscape. We also got a lesson in Indigenous heritage, science, and history. And of course, there was plenty of opportunities to explore the landscape and take photos. This experience was other-worldly. We both felt honored to explore a place that is typically off-limits to non-tribe members. And finally, for the sake of your guide’s sanity, the Anasazi had ladders to reach their cliff dwellings.

An experience of a lifetime!

This was an experience of a lifetime! Larson was our guide, and he was so knowledgeable! He explained everything from plant life to rock formations to Navajo customs and language to history of the area. He played the flute and was a skillful driver! He was simply the best, and made our tour one of the best experiences of our life!!

Perfect Mystery Valley experience

We loved our tour of Mystery Valley. Our guide Sean was very knowledgeable about the area, history and culture. We completely enjoyed our morning with him and sincerely appreciated his time and expertise. I wish we would have booked another tour with him as our guide.

It was fantastic!! Can’t beat Will

EVERETT_W, Aug 2023
We have done a tour of Mystery Valley in the past but wanted to do it again. We got Will as our guide and he was on time and courteous to a fault. He really is a very very good guide and you will not go wrong if you can get him as your guide. He shared the history of the area and explained their believes of their history.. He actually grew up here so you can’t ask for much more than that. On a scale of 1-10 I would give this tour a 12! Jay Wilson

Going back in time with Sean in Mystery Valley

Carol_T, Apr 2023
Our guide, Sean, gave us a beautiful tour. He was very knowledgeable concerning the valley's recent and ancient history, the details of it's puebloan dwellings and petroglyphs, as well as plants and artifacts found there over the years. He had a great sense of humor and graciously answered questions about navaho culture and history as well. With modesty, he gave us a haunting flute solo as we sat near one of the cliff houses. We feel very fortunate to have taken this particular tour with Sean, who has explored all these box canyons.
