Your tour starts at a designated meeting point inside Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, where you meet your guide for your exploration of Monument Valley's rock formations and Navajo culture, which has been part of this land for many generations and whose teachings have been inherited through the years. Some of these teachings are shared with you during your tour.
Make your first stop at John Ford's Point, where some of John Wayne's western movies were filmed, and then head into the backcountry area of the park to see Sun's Eye Arch and visit a hogan for a Navajo demonstration. Standing at Sun's Eye Arch at a specific spot, you can look into the rock arch to find out how it got its name. Also at this location, check out petroglyphs from the Anasazi people and listen to stories from your guide.
Next, head to the Big Hogan, another natural feature, for more photo ops and stories before visiting your last backcountry attraction, the Ear of the Wind, the largest arch in the park.
Continue to the Totem Pole and Yei Bi Cheii monuments for more photographs and to hear about their cultural histories, and then visit the North Window, where you can admire the Mittens Buttes from a different perspective. Your tour then ends at the original departure point.
Please note: Each guide's stories vary, as they have different stories to tell, which come from their personal experiences, Navajo culture, and lore and legends.

Our guide John was great! Gave us so much information on the monuments and shared so much information regarding his Navajo culture. We had an unexpected private tour. A tour makes viewing Monument Valley more detailed because you can tour areas not available to people driving their vehicle. We also heard John play a wooden flute. Made the area feel magical.

Tony is our guide and this tour is just phenomenal. Since this longer tour allows access to the restricted 'backcountry' areas, we saw caves and ancient petroglyphs that would be missed if you drive yourself. Tony didn’t just show us the sights; he shared the history and stories of the Navajo people that made the landscape come alive. He was patient, knowledgeable, and knew exactly where to stop for the best photos. If you’re visiting Monument Valley and want to learn more about Nevajo people and their cultural, I’d highly recommend to book this tour

The guide was friendly and knowledgeable about the area and culture. Be sure to check weather and wear warm clothes.

A longer tour was nice; there was only one other couple with us, so we weren’t cramped, as many others tours were.
Our guide was knowledgeable and helpful.
The rock formations here were amazing.
A highlight for me was when we stopped at a hogan and listened to a short talk by a Navajo woman who spoke about daily life and traditions. Her grandmother lived in the hogan.
Be aware the trip is dusty, with lots of other vehicles! We did a Mystery Valley tour as well, which was much quieter and focused more on the Anasazi ruins and petroglyphs.

We had a great experience with Elvis Stanley, he was very knowledgeable and friendly. He showed us all the sites and helped us get great pictures.

Our guide, Van was great 👍
She gave us a great overview on the Navajo's culture and were happy to answer all of the questions. Very grateful for that experience 🙏🏻

Darren seemed knowledgeable and very responsive to questions. Mystery Valley was a great experience and would suggest it to tourists.

Monument Valley was closed due to heavy rains. The tour guide took us on a 3 1/2 hour tour of mystery Canyon instead. Mystery Canyon was amazing and well worth substitution.

The cultural part was the most interesting particularly the very ancient petroglyph on the wall of the cliff. Our guide Harry Nez Jr. We thank him very much.

Beautiful and various landscapes through the south back of Monument Valley, reach interesting comments on cultural, ethnographic, linguistic and historical items (Dineh/Navajos, Dineh Bekeyah (Navajo Land), Dinehtah, Dineh Bizaad (navajo idiomes)...).
Very good guide (a woman), very professional with strong knowledges about the Navajos (s.l.) ; a big comftable 4WD véhicule.

Our driver/tour guide, Yvonne, was very knowledgeable, clear and fun. We super appreciated her flute playing at one of the arch viewpoints.
We also enjoyed our visit with Loretta at the hogan.
All in all a very enjoyable afternoon.

Our tour guide Lee was a Navajo Indian with so much knowledge and history. We felt removed from the hustle and bustle and were brought back to nature and our earths bounty's

This was the highlight of our trip to MV!! Yvonne was incredibly nice and filled with wonderful information and history to explain what we were seeing. I highly recommend!!

Our guide provided excellent information on his Dine culture and language. Very personable guide who presented many aspects of the Dine ways of life. Monument Valley itself is a wonder worth visiting. Our guide made different stops throughout Monument Valley to allow us to take pictures. He took a few minutes at one of the stops to play a bit of Dine music on a flute and then explained the instrument. A great tour highly recommanded.

Personal interaction with guide. Only ones on trip. Back country views. Guided tour only way to go because of rough MV loop road

Wonderful tour with Derick. Beautiful area, great tour guide.
Great to see the majesty of the area and the location of many old western movies.

Our guide, John, was outstanding and indispensable. His knowledge into his Navajo culture, history and of the park was incredible. He made the 3.5 hours seem like 30 minutes. Have time at each stop for pictures. He and the tour couldn’t have been better.

The tour was wonderful and well worth the money. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about the amazing monuments, Navajo culture, and vegetation in the area from Joseph, our excellent guide.
Laura_L, Jul 2023
Loved the tour! Very knowledgeable about the Navajo history and even explained the different rock formations. Our guide played a beautiful song on her flute as we took in the beauty of Monument valley. Constantly checked on us to make sure we had water or if we had any questions. Very helpful with taking family photos.

We had Joe as a tour guide. He was very knowledgeable and told us where to get the best photos. He explained a lot about the Navajo history, culture, and very interesting stories about some of the sights on the tour. Ours was a 3 1/2 hour tour would not recommend anything less!
On my next visit to Monument Valley I will request to have Joe as our tour guide!

DO NOT MISS THIS TOUR!
Our guide John was so cheerful and knowledgeable. We saw many beautiful vistas but John’s guidance gave us a deeper understanding of Navajo culture. He orchestrated the most amazing photography, played a beautiful flute concert, and made us feel at home in his world. We loved it!
EDWARD_M, Oct 2022
Our guide Ty was awesome!! His knowledge of the area, the history, the culture & wildlife was incredible. The tour was worth every penny we spent on it.
Alex_B, Jul 2022
Really interesting stories from John our tour guide. We drove through the monument valley and onto private reservation land which you couldn’t do if you drove yourself.
Very interesting. Although it was an open sided bus tour, so you were exposed to the elements a bit, including sand dust blowing in your eyes and the heat. For 3.5 hours it did get quite hot in places, and despite it stating snacks & water would be available they weren’t offered. Thankfully we brought lunch and plenty of liquids (but still got thirsty!) as it was 12pm, hottest part of the day I think this should’ve been offered.

This was a great tour through Monument Valley with guide Yvonne. She was in no hurry and had lots to tell. She gave us lots of nice photo opportunities and she new just the right spots. The tour had access to roads and spots which were closed for private cars. The season had not yet started and it was very quiet. We were in a group of just four people. Very nice!
Karen_C, Apr 2022
We really enjoyed the tour. I wanted more cultural content and stories. I think we need to learn and appreciate the culture of the original inhabitants of the Americas. Their knowledge and contributions may help us grow as humans and society.
