Monument Valley is of course majestic, but this marvelous tour provides extra opportunities to experience Navajo history and culture of the region we wouldn’t have been able to do otherwise.
We highly recommend knowledgeable guide Nate who also shared stories of his grandfather, personal connections. and conservation efforts. It was definitely a bucket list experience!

Sandrea was the best ever guide. Because of her we are planning to return to Monument Valley for two more tours.

Incredible sights in the back country of the valley. Larry had much knowledge of history of the area. He hit all the right spots for to a photographer's delight!

Very authentic, friendly and educational. The guide Zandrea was fantastic. The sights are unbelievable! Lot’s of stuff you would miss in a car.

Went on the tour in December. There was wind and cold, invigorating air. Tony gave so much fascinating information that it was easy to forget about the cold weather. My husband and I both enjoyed the sights, Tony’s music and the great care he showed during our tour.

This Monument Valley Back Country tour through Tribal Tours was incredible. Our guide, Travis Mose brought the canyon alive as he shared the culture, stories of the rock art and music of the Navaho nation. Travis introduced himself in the Navaho language. He also played his flute, chanted and sang while playing his drum. I hope you have this same experience on this tour!
Melvin_Y, Nov 2025
Larry our guide was a wonderful source of information about Navajo culture and history. He played the Indian flute for us at one of the sites we visited …just magical. The road/trail seemed very tough on private vehicles.Glad I didn’t drive myself. The tour was a bit dusty but that can’t be helped
Elayne_T, Oct 2025
The guide Travis was wonderful in explaining the petroglyph and explaining things about the people of the Navajo nation.
Jeanne_H, Oct 2025
The guide was very knowledgeable and kind with plenty of opportunities to take photos and expore the surrounding area.
Jerome_B, Oct 2025
The tour did not last 2:30 hours. Our guide did not stop at the hogan to see the weaving. He did less stop . I did the same tour 7 years ago and booked it again as my parents were coming . I am very disappointed.
Kelli_K, Sep 2025
Larry was amazing and we got to see places you can't go on a self-guided tour. Would highly recommend.
Jennie_W, Sep 2025
Great tour! Our guide Larry shared interesting facts and fascinating stories about Monument Valley. The highlight was when Larry played his Native American wind flute as our small group enjoyed the majestic mountains. It was a warm day but the ride in the covered open air truck was comfortable. Bring a bandana in case it gets dusty!
Mary_D, Sep 2025
It’s a bumpy ride, but worth it. Our tour guide Travis was great. Entertaining and informative. I would recommend this tour!
Cynthia_A, Sep 2025
Fun tour. Beautiful views. Just one problem with all the times we got on and off the truck. The step up to the ladder to get on the vehicle was very high off the ground. Our truck did not have a step stool to assist people who were short. People had to lift them manually to get on, and hold on to them when they jump off. No excuse for this given a stool is an easy, inexpensive fix.
Charlotte_P, Aug 2025
It is bumpy & hot but sooooo worth it! Travis was wonderful! We saw so much, there were music performances & learned a lot too!
Sylvia_G, Jun 2025
Not narrated. Taken to a Hogan to hear about the culture for about 20 mins, but expected to tip as it’s not included in the tour. Taken to an area not available on drive through tour and tour guides sang and played flute.
Robert_G, Jun 2025
Educational and adventurous and fun! It showed us the difficulty of living in this terrain and the desire to do so
Response from Host, Jun 2025
Robert,
We're glad you found the experience educational, adventurous, and fun. It's powerful to see both the challenges and the deep connection people have to this land. We appreciate you joining us!
Cathy_T, May 2025
This back country tour was amazing! I can't imagine trying to navigate the valley's roads in a rental car. The truck is the way to go. The seats were even comfy.
Our guide (Travis) was great! He told us lots of stories and histories passed down from his father and grandfather. The visit to the hogan was very interesting also - especially the yarn spinning demonstration.
I would highly recommend this tour!
Monica_C, Apr 2025
An open air vehicle tour by a Navajo guide. It was incredibly informative and gave us cultural perspective, while enjoying the beauty of monument valley!
Norman_P, Apr 2025
Tour guide did a great job, would recommend to others, especially if you could get same guide to do the tour.

We have done the tour before with another company and it was also good, but our guide's focus was on cultural aspects and so we got some new information. She gave us a better idea of social life there and the significance of their stories. The group was very congenial and interesting (something you can’t always control) and the guide was very accommodating to the person with mobility issues.
Kobi_R, May 2024
She was extremely knowledgeable of the area. She also sang some native songs that were awesome. This is an awesome way to see monument valley.
Sylvie_C, May 2024

Being thankful we had seatbelts! On a more serious note, the sharing experience with Native Navajo singing and drum playing in the boot cave was unique. I also liked the elderly Native woman sharing the crafts that she did.
