Monument Valley tribal tours with Toney a must do!

Sandra_K, Mar 2026
Our guide Toney was amazing! We had the tour to ourselves which was great. He told us all the back story of the monuments and Navajo. He took us to the best photo spots and helped us get the best shots. His traditional song at Big Hogan was a highlight as well as Bobby playing his flute. 4 hours of absolutely stunning scenery even in the cold. Can’t recommend this back country tour enough! We all had the best day out.

Absolutely breathtaking. Worth the trip. On a side note for people, maybe bring a handkerchief or something to cover your nose and mouth if its windy out.

Nature. Art. History. Music. The Total Experience

Doran_E, Nov 2025
Fascinating trip. Something for everyone. Fabulous vistas. Closeup views of the classics and exploration from directions not seen from the main road tour. Intimate knowledge of the land and people and history from our guide Larry. You will enjoy his flute playing at the natural amphitheater called the Big Hogan. Really lends a magical air to an already enthralling location. We were fortunate enough to be there when it had recently rained. The change in the landscape was dramatic and interesting. Petroglyphs from the time of the Ana Sazi brings you close to connecting to people thousands of years removed. Really expands your concept of time, endurance, survival and joy of life in an environment most of us would not last a week in.

Wonderful!

Great experience. Our guide Larry was so knowledgeable, kind and interesting. The history of this magical place is amazing. A must do while in Monument Valley.

Beautiful place and love the experience

Thomas_L, Oct 2025
The tour guide is good and knowledgeable. Gave us the history of each check point. He also played beautiful music during the tour.

Photo ops plus

Definitely a must to do the tour. You would miss so much if you tried to drive and just see on your own. I would have given it a 5 star as our guide was great. . . but we never visited a hogan and saw a weaver.

Beautiful scenery; guide Larry was very knowledgeable and personable. We were glad we chose not to drive through the valley with our rental vehicle. Plus the tour guide goes to places that the public does not have access to.

Our Guide Larry was incredible. He provided just the right amount of information and, as a wonderful bonus, he played his traditional flute in a natural amphitheater.

Take the tour!

Sharon_M, Oct 2025
I would recommend the tour 100%. If you just drive through the park by yourself you will miss out. Our guide was Larry. He was excellent. We even got a little serenade at the dome on his Navajo flute. The best part of taking a tour at Monument Valley is that they will take you to areas that are off limits to the general public. The benches on the truck were comfortable. It is covered but has a high placed tarp on top. It enables you to see the tops of the monument in their entirety. We drove through the park on our own for a bit after our tour. The viewing was not as good. Take the tour!

Absolutely fascinating. The back country is so amazing and most visitors never see it. I would go again in a heartbeat.

Just go and see

Our tour guide Comie is a knowledgeable guide that allowed us plenty of time for pictures taking. The scenery is beuatiful and definitely worth viewing. You won't be disappointed.

Awesome Guided Tour

ElaineR_L, Sep 2025
Amazing tour, just know that this is off road and you are riding in the back of a pickup truck. It was a bumpy ride. Lots of fun! The guide, Jamison, was so knowledgeable and patient with all our questions. He, of course, grew up here, so it was awesome to hear about how the Navajo lived in the past and now today from someone who truly knows. Also went to areas that only guides are allowed to drive, had plenty of time for stopping and looking and picture taking. One of the best tours I’ve been on.

Authentic Navajo culture and scenic back country

David_Y, Sep 2025
Personalized small group tour in an open truck 4wd in back country areas not accessible to the public. Our tour guide, Travis, is Navajo and he was authentic to his tribes culture and history. He was very knowledgeable, very friendly and very spiritual in the Navajo tradition. He introduced us to Navajo people in their back country homes. You would not see this part of Monument Vally on the public tours.

Take the tour, ditch the self-drive loop

Kathleen_H, Aug 2025
We had a terrific guide (Travis) who brought energy, passion, artistry, and expertise to the tour. We saw places that we would not have seen on the self-drive and didn’t have to worry about our rental car getting damaged. Well worth the investment.

Our experience with the Monument Valley Extended Backcountry Tour with Tribal Tours was a perfect blend of beautiful scenery and Navajo culture. Larry, our guide, was a captivating storyteller with an artistic spirit. Not only did he bring stories of the land and his people to life, he also helped us capture the best pictures along the way and graced us with a beautiful melody on a Native American flute. The experience was well worth it!

Wonderful experience!!

Ari_B, May 2025
My family and I took your back country tour today and I just wanted to let you know it exceeded our expectations in every way because of our wonderful tour guide, Travis. Not only was he a great driver, but he had the perfect mix of excellent cultural knowledge and a wonderful sense of humor. My 86 year old dad was on this tour and Travis was so kind and considerate to him! My dad can’t stop talking about what a good time he had. As an educator and a seasoned traveler, believe me when I say that Travis is a treasure…a wonderful tour guide, and a truly warm and welcoming human being. He ended our tour with his marvelous flute playing and drumming, and we were all so moved by his excellent playing. He brought Monument Valley to life for us today. With sincere thanks!
