Your tour begins through Monument Valley's natural attractions.
With your guide, make your first stop at John Ford's Point, where some of John Wayne's western movies were filmed, as well as 'Transformers: Age of Extinction.' Then head into the backcountry area of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park to see the Sun's Eye Arch. Standing here at a specific degree, you can look into the rock arch to find out how it got its name. Also at this location, check out petroglyphs from the Anasazi people and listen to stories from your guide.
Then continue to the Big Hogan, another natural feature that's a favorite photo op site, before stopping at your last backcountry attraction, the Ear of the Wind, the largest arch in the park.
Next, head to the Totem Pole for more photo ops and to hear about their cultural histories, and then visit the North Window, where you can admire the Mitten Butte from a different perspective. Your tour then ends with return to your departure point.
Please note: Guides are locals who have been praised for their storytelling skills and are first aid- and CPR-certified. Water is available but it's recommended that you bring your own snacks and other necessities.

Monument Valley backcountry tour was jaw-dropping, awe-inspiring, and constantly surprising. Our guide Joseph was kind, peaceful, and excellent with his communication. Very informed and informative.
Our guide Joseph was very friendly and informative. He also had great photo tips. We were on a 9am tour and had perfect weather. Would highly recommend this tour for people visiting.

Try to get very good information on exactly where you will meet your driver and vehicle. Once we had found our tour company the tour itself went super smooth. I think it may vary according to the actual driver / tour guide. We fell on our feet with our guide Tai. He was excellent and really went the extra mile for us. The views and experience were amazing.
Our group was running alittle behind, road construction, I called ahead they were gracious to us and had another vehicle take us to the group we were to be with. This was my second time with this company, they wonderful and we had a great time!
Fantastic! John was amazing! Such a great experience - took us into Monument Valley, told us about the culture and history of the Navajo people and the land. Whole family was riveted - absolutely 100% would recommend!
So glad we booked the tour rather than trying to complete the drive ourselves. This is off road, full stop, and not worth risking the rental car. In addition the tour guide told you plenty throughout and took us off the main road meaning we could stop at some arches and an awesome sand dune to run up. Great tour!

My family (4 adults, 3 kids and 2 infants) enjoyed the tour greatly! Our guide was Vonne, she was great! It was a hot 93 degree morning, but there was enough shade in the tour vehicle and the breeze when moving was refreshing. We were able to use our car seats for the infants which was great, because holding them would have been very hot.
Amazing tour guide. We learned a lot! Including how to use our iphones to have some of the best pictures taken! She really knew the filters to make the monuments stand out and took great pics of our family.
My best friend and I took a tour of Monument Valley (7/20/2026, 9am), and it turned out to be one of the most unforgettable experiences either of us has ever had. She lives right by the Four Corners but had somehow never made it out to the valley, so this was a first for both of us and we were absolutely blown away. The morning tour was not terribly hot, but by the time we were done at 11:30, it was pretty warm. So keep that in mind when choosing your time.
The land itself is stunning beyond words. Those towering red sandstone buttes and mesas stretch out in every direction, and photos honestly don’t do them justice. But what took this tour from beautiful to truly special was our guide, Joseph. His stories and sense of humor were unmatched. His depth of traditional knowledge, of the Navajo people, of Monument Valley, and of native traditions, was absolutely amazing. He made the history and meaning of the land come alive in a way you could never get on your own.
We made about five stops, each one unique and breathtaking in its own way. At the Big Hogan, a natural sandstone amphitheater, Joseph brought out his drum and sang us a traditional song while the acoustics carried it all around us. The other guide played a beautiful piece on her flute. Standing there, listening, I felt genuinely honored to be part of something so meaningful. It deepened my appreciation and respect for Navajo culture in a way I wasn’t expecting.
The beauty and grace of this place run deep, a rich weave of traditions both old and new. If you’re anywhere near this part of the country, do not miss it, and ask for Joseph.
So thank you, Joseph. May your pillow always be cold in the summer, and may no coyotes ever cross your path!

This was a great tour. Very informative with beautiful scenery. Our guide Joseph was very knowledgeable and gave us a lot of information about the Navajo and it was a fantastic experience. He was terrific with helping us take incredible photos using panoramas and timed shots.

Wonderful! Joe was a phenomenal guide and spent time educating us, sharing stories and teaching us words in Diné which we very much appreciated and took countless pictures of us all.
Our tour guide, Elvis, was extremely knowledgeable and receptive of our needs. He was engaging and took the most amazing photo of us! We were a little late, but they were understanding and even stopped by our car so that we can grab a few items we forgot. Highly recommend!!!!

We departed right on time, lots of bottles of cold water during
the tour. Our guide John was great and new so much over
Monument Valley and the Navajo.
Guide was political and I didn’t pay this kind of money to hear his point of view. He also “made up” information, we fact checked him when we got home. He was a poor representation of the tribe.
Joe was one of the best, if not THE best guide we have ever had. The entertaining and educational tour was unbelievably great! Joe was born and raised in the Monument Valley and had more knowledge of the Navajo Nation than anyone would expect. There was not a question that he could not answer. The beauty of the Navajo Nations and the respect that the Navajo have for their land is unsurpassed. Joe also showed us some camera tech that we didn’t know existed. GREAT JOB! GREAT TOUR! Don’t miss it!

Dave was very knowledgeable and provided historical references, agriculture and geological insight. It wasn’t “heavy”. Dave knew where there were lions and tigers and bears, oh my. All kidding aside, we saw moose, her calf, bison, a bear and their habitats. We would highly recommend.
This was an awesome tour, our guide was Joe and he was very knowledgeable and related it to his personal experiences. He even taught us to use our phone cameras to capture better images. I would give it six stars if I could.
Was so beautiful, and Joe Nelson our guide was the best ever with such information as the way of life and spiritual beliefs of the Navajo people. His words made us feel humble and grateful to be there. The tour vehicle was very comfortable, and Joe helped us with our cameras, gave us water, and we would request him to be our guide again. We would take this tour again in a heart beat.
Joseph was an AMAZING tour guide, a wonderful representative of his community and of Monument Valley, full of information and stories, called attention to specific points on interest, helped create special photos and special memories. A favorite part of our trip!

The time it took for this tour was perfect. It wasn’t too long but it wasn’t too short either, which is what we wanted due to time constraints. Our tour guide was Joseph and did an amazing job. Extremely professional and genuine. He’s been doing it for 31 years and it’s obvious he enjoys it.
